Good review, I don't hate Darktide I have a lot of fun with it but I've personally found myself just going back and playing Cataclysm/Legend on Vermintide 2 because it's just more fun and challenging in general.
No. No one should ever have to pay to participate in a true open beta. Those who actively participate in an open beta and provide good feedback should be compensated (even if it's with a free copy of the game or something in-game signifying your contribution).
"My hammer swings recharge my toughness on each hit." Does it still? When I took a break from playing they made toughness only blunt damage instead of being a "shield," invalidating the entire point of the Zealot. Inquiring minds would like to know.
"They thought it'd be better to spend their budget on a premium currency shop on launch then a crafting system." Your mistake is equating that both have the same amount of work. They don't. Also, it's a 39.99USD game. People are expecting a AAA game for budget discount and we're not privy to what the budget for the game is, including it's rights.
The point of the daemon host is to avoid it, thats why you cant solo it. In a game where you walk into a room and start blastin, it forces you to exercise restraint and caution, if a horde attacks while youre passing one by, you have to avoid firing in its direction. Edit: though i do agree bring back loot dice. If bosses only have a chance to spawn then reward players for beating a challenge they may not have othwrwise encountered
Can I just say how much I love the fact that the Imperium just has regular old garbage dumpsters in their streets? I find it unbelievably hilarious to imagine scores upon scores of The Emperor's faithful giving their lives in the campaign to recover a lost STC fragment... only to be rewarded with the knowledge of trash bin production 🤣
To be honest, although the story is lacking right now, I feel like the setting allows for multiple cool campaigns. Imagine, you could go from killing a special demon or leader, to facing down against a plague marine or stopping a massive explosion, to whatever. It could be multiple stories, drawn out over the years- perhaps dlc or not. It would be like an omnibus that you could play your own part in. My hope, anyway.
Yeah right. They put a portal into V2 so you could go anywhere with no distance limits, and we proceeded to get nothing but different flavors of Empire cities for the rest of time. Better not assume too much. We're lucky that topside maps aren't DLC!
@@heathcooper9300 a word bearer was killed by a wooden spear in the HH books, so i could be possible. Maybe have it so the plague marine finds you early in the map and you have to run from it while dealing damage using explosives and stuff, and the final room is like the boss fight with the guy with the shield, but the marine has whatever health he had left after chasing through the whole map, so it could be low or it could be high.
@@heathcooper9300 so the characters can massacre ogryns, take down beasts of nurgle, daemonhosts, an entire army of traitor guards, and yet cant take ONE plague marine?
Thank you for making this review. With FatShark throwing out sponsorships left and right to keep honest criticisms under wraps, it’s wonderful to see you speak up about this FatShark’s regression with content and balancing.
Fatshark was never good at balancing, no regression there. Vermintide 2 had so many broken builds over the years and so many underpowered careers that i didnt expect anything else.
I guess balancing isn’t quite the word. What I was referring to were the fundamentals of game mechanics, rather then just simply the balance of careers. I’ll just keep it simple with a few bullet points: • Specials that could grapple you in Vermintide were relatively squishy and avoidable. Backstabbers had a grace period where they would crouch down for a moment before pouncing, allowing you time to react. The pox hound by comparison, is too tanky for its own good, and has almost no grace period between sprinting towards the player and pouncing on them. And that’s not even to mention how the mutant just straight up tracks the player when charging, which in my personal opinion is the worst trait a tanky grappler could have. • The way that the mission selection works is just completely busted for a game like Darktide. Such a system belongs in games like Deep Rock Galactic, as those types of games are much more “pick up and play” as opposed to Darktide’s focus on making builds and optimizing stats. Not to mention, even Deep Rock Galactic let’s you choose which difficulty you’ll play on when you select a mission. • This one might be more subjective, but in my opinion the characters in Darktide are largely forgettable on a fundamental level. I will shout this from the top of my hill any day, pre-established characters with fleshed out backstories and personalities will ALWAYS beat out whatever “create-a-character” system you wish to implement, no matter how much money you throw at your writing team. Okay that went on for a lot longer than I originally hoped to, but surely I’ve explained my case well enough.
VT2 at launch was worse than Darktide. It had constant disconnects, the matchmaking took 10 years to find a match, the music kept cutting out, very poorly balanced even on the easiest difficulty, broken weapons and useless perks; overall darktide is a lot better now than VT2 at launch.
the point about not enough classes might be very true. I have +2k hours in vermintide 2 and one of the things that keeps me comming back is trying out all those different builds for characters, however subtle it might be, it was very fun to fuck around with it, and gave depth to the game. Thing is, including DLC, Vermintide 2 has 19 classes to mess around with and with darktide you have 4
Not to mention that the classes are so badly designed that only Veteran has any real build variety. Zealot and Ogryn have limited options in practical terms, and the majority of Psyker's feat rows have "must-pick" options that actively hurt you if you don't take them on diffs 4 or 5.
I've played the first public alpha and I feel like my biggest gripe with the game is how the difficulty scaling doesn't actually teach you habbits you need to develop to be proficient in higher difficulties in a game all about high skill In addition the classes just aren't made to work with each other as much as they work alongside each other, I feel this especially since I'm spoiled by Deep Rock Galactic in which each class is made to excel in a specific field like digging tunnels, mobility, or being defensive with traversal tools that help the whole team even if you're focusing on only helping yourself, as a result DRG feels like coopiration while Darktide can feel like babysitting, even Fatshark mentioned that Darktide is about giving each player a moment of badassery which creates a competitiveness to a copritive game Also the fact I couldn't see my teammates ammo is really irritating Still a solid and fun game and the melee combat, environment, music, and litterally everything else is really good Edit: spelling
The daemonhost can be solo'd by a veteran with the "dodging at attack restores 25% of your stamina" feat, and i swear i've seen an ogryn with riot shield do it too
The current story is most likely just a "prologue" and an introduction to the characters. It was said multiple times that story will unfold after the launch with more and more being added.
Yeah, they even got a W40k author, think it was Dan Abnett. Since they're doing a live-service type of game, future seasons will most likely move the story forward. Hell, the name "Darktide" can be a catch-all term for the enemies of Mankind, currently being Nurgle cultists. We can have genestealer cults involved in the future, judging from all the dialogue.
Facts, a lot of people really are quick to assume nowadays and rants with unrealistic reasons why. Also the famous author Dan abnett that Razgriz mentioned, mentioned the plans during one of the videos about him.
But you cannot deny that for the "launch" of the game it is a bit dry, and since it's fatshark you can never know when they will finally get around to doing it.
@@greengeck0 Usually a good year before we starting seeing substantial updates. But since this is live-service, i'm hoping that we start seeing said substantial stuff on the first themed season.
@@Razgriz_01 yep hoping for the same and getting ready for the long haul, but it does feel that by the 3rd tide game FS would have finally got their bearings and have a better base. What I mean release the game (or at least no lie about a full release when its obviously early a.) and have a roadmap that may not be binding but would give the community some reprieve in what to expect. I worry that the game might burn out before it has a chance to shine
One regret I have is going in depth with the meat grinder. I found so many concept flaws and balance issues it made me think again and again "was this even tested?" Most blatant is the enemy design behind the bulwark the enemy ogryn with a shield. The "shield" hit box is shaped like a oval and overlaps on both sides of the ogyrn (using a flame thrower you can see it in detail) meaning you cant do damage from the front (even if your shot was at flesh) at the moment there is no consistent way to get around the shield at your own whim if its targeting you with the special exception of a few weapons. And problems start forming very quickly if you're forced to deal with more than one (hell even just one) at high difficultly when there isnt a team mate. The only way in the whole game to get past the shield on a whim is using a Bolt gun (about half a magdump), thunder hammer (not enough time to do followup damage, light hit does like 120dmg before the shield is back up) and the phyker stun staff (damage is super low and its not a good staff), and ogryns grenade launcher (you wont be able to follow with a second shot before shields back) as you can see biggest issue is followup damage, since the shield ogryn is slightly faster than a typical poxer eventually it'll make for the front of all enemies and since it has a outrageous shield hit box you won't be able to trim chaff (that can shoot through the ogryn to hit you) or kill specials, or be able to damage to the shield ogryn, unless you have that staff or dump half a mag of a bolter (and get lucky enough to kill it with the last few rounds before needing to reload which is unlikely) which means you sacrifice a primary weapon slot. The bolt gun sucks past malice a 15 shot chaff killer isnt worth it when better in slot weapons exsist, like heavy lasgun or flame thrower (especially on vet when he has the ability to do 10 times the dps with that heavy lasgun doing 1200+ damage a head shot at 10m. The you got ogryn, the poor bastard. If potions exsisted he would be super useful, but what does ogryn do that other classes don't also do but better, worst melee choices, worst gun choices. Zealot can outkill chaff, vet can out kill elites, physker/zealot can stun all enemies better. The only thing he can do is res without being interrupted. Which is niche at best. The fucking powersword, the biggest crutch ever, it makes zealot almost redundant, its ridiculous how good it was (it still is crazy best in slot melee for vet) without question there is no reason to take any other melee weapon beyond the powersword unless for your own personal preference most dmging, best crowd control best single target dps. Pox hounds. You know there is blatent misinformation about the poxhound on the launch screen, the pox hound is not meant to be dodged, its meant to be attacked or pushed to avoid being pounced on. The only reason you sometimes can dodge it is because you escaped the range of the jump as it jumped. Thats why so often you blatantly dodge it and it always gets ya.
as someone who never really pushed into higher levels of difficulty in VT2, any articles or videos you would recommend for Darktide higher difficulties?
Thank the Emperor! You can't just drop your videos on us like this!!! I need to bless my armor, apply some purity seals, and burn some incense first! My wife is asking me to help her in the kitchen and I had to yell out "BROTHER I AM PINNED HERE!" I couldn't give her any notice first! I see Poncha, I click, watch, and thank the Emperor!!!
The problem is that Fatshark start a bit of corporated greed side and that is big no no for new player. Edit:I just realize that the Darktide game director is made by Tencent not Fatshark so you should made a video about Tencent.
I have faith that Darktide will get better than its current blatantly unfinished state but I have absolutely no hope or expectation that it will ever be better than Vermintide 2. I went into it expecting not to like the characters as much, but confident that the gameplay itself would be great... but the entirety of the game is full of dumb design decisions from the very core that make it a step down in almost every conceivable way except the music. It's not a bad game, it's definitely not boring, but it is so disappointing.
Darktide, made my computer hard crash more than a dozen times. And by hard crash I mean blue screen with a brrrrrrr noise coming out the speakers. I disconnect at least 3 times an hour, per hour of game time. Believe it or not, it's gotten better in that regard. Used to be I would disconnect 9 times or more in the beta, PER HOUR. I have played better built Early Access games. As of December 2022, Darktide needs 6more months of bug fixing and patching just to run right.
This game is AMAZING the first 5 - 10 hrs..... then it gets a bit tedious. I think the worst mistake is not having a linear mission path like Vermintide 2 did
Of note should be that unless u have fairly good pc dont expect the game ever looking anyhow good as shown in this review. I have recommanded 3060 and i have to bump everything down to unresonable levels where i could play vermintide 2 on everything maxed out with buttersmooth 80-90fps, here i struggle to get stable 50-60 with everything either off or low, plus i had to put resolution to 1080p instead of native 1440 of my monitor, making everything look blurry and out of focus. The game looks outright atrocious compared to vermintide 2 for me at least, nothing like showed here (unless i want to bear with extremely unstable fps jumping between 30-100)
Reason i felt need to comment this, was how little this review touches upon how badly optimalized the game is. I am not talking slightly lower fps, i am talking massive leaps in from high to low on recommanded specs if not better that i have. This would not be an issue if major part of the game wasn't quick reactions, dodging etc that really screws u over when u get sudden 30fps drop
Just commenting on the "regression for Fatshark" something I feel like is overlooked is the 40K IP in of itself is an entirely different beast than its counterpart of Fantasy, Fatshark worked with that IP for two games and by the time the second game rolled out the door they were already comfortable working with the IP whereas in the first game similar to Darktide you only had ONE class per the five playable characters, there were even hints that Fatshark might not have been able to fully come to an agreement with what characters were going to be the playable characters throughout the trailers for Darktide UNTIL they release the rejects trailer which gives more player freedom over the playable characters than Fatshark likely could have imagined since such a luxury wasn't permitted at all in Vermintide. Fatshark in summary are having to relearn the lessons from Vermintide 1 all over again with Darktide because 40K is an IP that's FILLED with members that will absolutely take zero fucks from companies if they fuck around with the IP and I'm even talking about the in-game store controversy as I wouldn't be surprised if such a thing actually existed in the lore that's 40K, all 40K players want is a good 40K game, something that can do the universe justice and Fatshark has shown that they can bring its counterpart to life with Vermintide, now they're trying their luck with the 40K universe and probably unlike its counterpart in Fantasy, the 40K fans aren't the type you want to be pissing off and everyone should have seen why when you use Eternal Crusade as an example, because once you do something wrong 40K fans will make damn well sure to remind you again and again until the end of days.
Tired of game developers, tv/movie producers, and content creators (merchandise and whatnot) trampling on the sanctity of a medium, whether by accident or not. They don't seem to care that if they take something people are very passionate about, fuck it up and then pretend it's fine and/or that they made something good, fans are gonna vilify them. I assume it's because they've already made their money/output their agenda. Happens all the time now, but some obvious ones are the new Star Wars sequels, LOTR The Rings of Power, the Netflix Witcher series(s), Berserk (the awful cgi 2016 version), and anything else that came out that relates to a popular medium but garnered significantly less attention than other products of that medium due to its quality in comparison.
@@bupkis72 In the case of Eternal Crusade, it's really hard to say if it was an accident or not because the game itself was a bit of a mess and this is coming from someone who had played the game and did have some fun with it while it was still alive, even got me a few friends I otherwise wouldn't have today because I broke my own rule when it came to games requiring an additional login account in order to play them (still have that rule by the way and I hate it that games now a days are moving towards that more and more) because the devs themselves were completely and utterly at fault for how the game was handled from the massive spending on tech that basically became useless on arrival for the kind of game they were trying to make, and to just how much they overestimated the expectations of 40K fans and how underwhelming they ended up delivering the game (of course Bandi Namco didn't help on that end either by forcing them to release the game when it wasn't ready). Behavior ended up being the ones with the target placed on them for how poorly the game was being received even though a few people including Zoran tried to explain to everyone that the game that was originally being pitched was still coming, except the damage was already done and like I said 40K fans once they get pissed off they will make damn well sure to remind you over and over again, like for example every single livestream the dev team did before those were eventually stopped I would literally hear comment after comment of people going "hey remember when Terminators were promised? You ever going to get around to releasing those because we know they're in the files thanks to some data miners" and the same can be said for every single patch that was released for the game, there would always be comment after comment of people asking, "where are the Terminators you promised?"
An honest and funny review? Nice. Also I think I know the shill reviewer you are referencing, he was basically blowing smoke up FartShart’s ass then boom it turns out he was being sponsored by the game lmao.
I have a 3060 and I still get kicked out of the game every time I log into the game for 3-4 times straight (after fiddling with the options for graphics settings). This is unacceptable in my books and the only reason I'm not going for a refund is due to other friends playing and enjoying the game on even weaker specs. Fatshark forums are as much help as you can guess. Worst part, when the game works, I absolutely love the music kicking in and the hardcore that it brings on
You dare to create enjoyable content on youtube ... in your free time?... without being "top listed" in trends.. how dare you... Ordo Malleus shall be informed of your persistent actions. On the side note an idea for a video (when you'll find time somewhere between your appreciated contribution to society in form of NHS worker): "why nearly every WH game in last 20 years is a cursed fiasco" I say "nearly" we know which are good-bad-ugly.. but for God Emperors sake.. To make a game: Realm? check. Lore? Check. Rules? Check. Fandom? Check. How come, given such fundamental basics, studios fail to deliver, or in most cases publishers over-greed final product to the point that is unenjoyable... would we be cursed by the chaos?.. is this the time for Gellar Field ?
Darktide, as launched and up until now, is a 3/10 title. The core mechanics can be fun. That typed, it crashes more than any game I've played. Ever. Every 3 missions includes 1 crash. The RNG and core mechanics (the ones that are actually there, as some are missing) are atrocious. To fix this game, parts of it will need to be removed. Burnt Earth approach. They need to be replaced with something... competent. This shouldn't have happened. It should never have gotten further than paper. This most likely won't happen, as it will require a wipe. What a disappointment. Also, the monetization. It's awful. This game absolutely *does* feel bland. All the areas are washed out and seem alike. If you play for several hours, you'll have seen all there is. This could've been a knockout. A grand slam. This is three steps back from FatShark from Vermintide 2. I disagree. If you've at least 2 braincells to rub together, you shouldn't be happy with what you get. Even if you play the game for free via GamePass, which is the only method of playing the game I recommend at this point, you'll walk away disappointed. If you're happy with this project and it's company as is, I don't want to know you.
Poncha just as a side note, I don't think it's a good idea to have your face take up a fith of the screen when you have gameplay in the background. It's disorienting and quite frankly there is a reason why when it comes to game reviews, you usually don't have gameplay and a facecam on at the same time.
gotta love the choice of the music for the ending. Path of Trust has now supplanted Noosphere as a favourite 40k piece of music for me. you're right about the wording of the beta/early access. for the longest time I thought it was just a regular pre-order. didn't buy though, as a Vermintide OG I ain't buying anything from Fatshark for the 1st year or two. but you're right, the scale of regression and the amount of missing content on launch was surprising and worrying. I'm glad the community let them know it ain't okay.
Gotta say, even though i only have 19 hours under my belt...im absolutely in love with this game so far. The story seems barebones, but the gameplay, wooooo boy that gameplay is just the most satisfying stuff i've felt in a while, helped along by great VA's doing great voice lines. Im very hopeful they bring us more classes in the future. As someone who has never played Vermintide before, i have to agree, im more than happy with what we have here...but i hope they can do more in the future to make this game truly ABOVE Vermintide. I know they can do it. It'll just be how long it'll take for that
I liked this video Poncha it's clear what you want from this game and a lot of care was put in but I think fatshark thought they owed it to their fans to give them something which a lot of them will like it's just a shame death stranding 2 will be out and the game still won't be finished keep up the good work can't wait for the next video!!!!
Writers are all going downhill. That's the problem with EVERYTHING in Media. They should be the ones that know the universe, but for some reason they either forgotten or simply not allowed.
This new editing feels kinda over the top mate. Like when you're talking about certain visuals it's really not the best to fill big chunk of the screen with your face. I don't mind this being partially implemented but you should tune it down by some significant percentage. EDIT: also talking over the lines of some characters when they are speaking doesn't exactly properly showcase voice acting if I had to be honest.
I can confirm the bad performance of the game. I got 19 fps on a 1060 6GB on the lowest settings and also the lowest resolution. I tried it with maxed out settings on a 3090 and got between 46 and 120 fps.
It’s a fun time killer and I’m loving it so far but by the Emperor does this game suck on PC. I’m surprised I managed to find a game that starts up slower than Ready or Not. And it really blows being able to only play a few matches before the game crashes.
The dialogue in the game is heresy, the story is amateurish, the gameplay is mostly OK but the progression is still VT style horrible, and theres too many missing pieces of gear that only compounds the other issue of the sever lack of personality of your character.
FYI you can do private matches, that was added some time in the last week. I've been playing this since the first beta, and I only have a few complaints. The lack of end of match stats is the biggest one. You never get a sense of how well youve done, and considering you can be balls to the wall to finish a hard mission, that feels cheap. Next complaint is that you can't potato-ify the game enough. One of my best friends just can't run the game at all, and this is the first game that's ever happened with. My only other complaints are the lack of story stuff (but I see this more as a payday2 style game where that's not a big deal), and the plasma gun's cool-off mechanism is fucking broken. You can literally get it at almost max heat, but if you try to cool it you take damage, and when its at lower heat levels, cooling off can be slower than just leaving it... which means there's really no use case for that cooldown mechanic at all. It just seems a bit poorly thought out and counterintuitive and just encourages you to spam plasma attacks then switch weapon for a bit.
Love the game, I've played Vermintide 2 to death. Get loads of connectivity issues (2001, 4008), slow loading (over a minute easy), crappy performance, and the occasional crash.I have a crappy < 10 Mbits connection, but that's the only game that gives me issues. Otherwise NVME, a GTX1080@3400x1440, ... Anyway, game is not optimized very well for peasant hardware and connections. For content, they definitely need a Chaos Waste mode, a rogue-like dungeon, with some end-game reward / boss drop. Otherwise, it's a pretty uninspired Vermintide 2, in terms of general progression, even regressing in some areas. But, the core loop is still fun, so there's that.
Seeing your face straight on and hella zoomed in so many times throughout this video is kinda weirding me out. Like. Why do you have to rub your face in my face every 15 seconds, I can't focus on the game footage because my eyes are getting constantly distracted and forced to look at your face popping into the screen. It wasn't like that in your previous vids. It wouldn't be bad at all if your face wasn't covering a fourth of the screen or sometimes even more than half. Then it feels like I'm getting jumpscare-pranked. No offense, just not my taste.
I'd love to actually play the game with my buddies if it didn't keep giving me network issues and kicking me from the lobby every time I try joining a server.
i had the same issue. Had to go into files to turn off the RTX and i locked my FPS to 60 and went from crashing every match.. to crashing maybe every 6 hours or not at all for a day or two
Well that’s a shame, but I don’t know what I expected. I didn’t like vermintide 2. Freaking loved vermintide 1 but the servers are empty since V2, and now probably this. Tried playing v1 with bots and can’t even tell the bots to stay in place, or do anything but follow you so objectives are impossible
I am so glad people are waking up to the fatshark cycle. You think this regression is bad? I think it could've been worse. I remember the jump from v1 to v2. They got off lightly. I expected a total disaster since they couldn't just reuse 80% of the older games content.
That intro, made me realized you shouldve played a better game that actually plays like a rhythm game like that. Play Bullets Per Minute or Metal Hellsinger.
This game hurts because Fatshark won me over enough to instantly love Darktide and I'm glad I do. It's the one of the best 40k games we've gotten since Space Marine, but at the same time there's so many problems and negativity that it breaks my heart. I just wanna be happy again man, especially after this shithole of a year
I am actually happy playing in actually great and fun game called like Soulstone survivors and devs called it Early access so no lies here from them. Deleted Darktide after 65 hours because to be honest this game really no make any motivation to keep playing so if i would play more i think i would regret its would be wasted time so i am feel myself good after deleting it. You can be happy too but its not seems like FS want to make good/great and fun game saw as well how someone at Metacritic when reviewed Vermintide 2 said that FS despise players of their games so yeah
There are no spoilers for this game, as the "story" is the worst I've encountered in recent memory. Outside the opening, it doesn't exist. It's the same no matter what character you choose or what you do. It's nonsensical and disappointing. There's nothing there. The in-game cinematics don't even jive with the terrible narration. What makes all of this terribleness worse, is that FatShark touted how Dan Abnett and other authors were involved. How? No. Just no.
Every time I hear him say beeta I want to sacrifice myself to the Emperor 😅 As an American though we have no claim to the 40k franchise like the beeta testers in the UK of the future demon world we live in.
I've enjoyed my time with it so far aside from the crashes. I will say, though, if you have a hunch at all that you have a potato computer, don't even waste your time with Darktide. With a current i9, 2080 SUPER, and 32GB of RAM, I'm running the game at 1080p (vs 1440p) at medium settings to get a good frame rate. The optimization of this game's engine is poor, and honestly, I don't know how they will fix it - if ever.
I found a video of leak, which shows multiple new… Subclasses? Orders? Careers? I don’t quite know, but there was one for the Ogryn, one for the Zealot, and one for the Veteran. Sadly for my Beloved, there was no mention of any for the Psyker, but I’m still having quite a bit of fun in the meantime! (Yes Beloved, I told them, now hush.)
I'll have to give zero points because I CANT FCKN PLAY ON CONSOLE. Edit: got the Xbox series for the only purpose of playing Darktide so yea I'm pretty pissed
Really bummed out because it just feels like they were really lazy with the game part of the game. Like the visuals and sound design are excellent and the core combat is great! But then the HP/Toughness is shit, no ones like chip damage, character customization is neat on paper but overall the writing feels watered down (i'm assuming because they had to focus on 21 personalities and not 5. Not to mention its so insanely immersion breaking to be in a match with 1 or even 2 other people with the same personality as you, so you just have the same VA talking to themselves. The class balance is all over the place, its painfully obvious they have no idea what direction they want the Psyker to go. Weapons are real hit or miss in both viability and fun. Missions being on a rotation is fucking stupid. no crafting yet, rng shop, a premium store that worked flawlessly on launch while the rest of the game was a buggy mess. And then the real cherry on top is just how half of the community is just full copium. I've seen so many forum/reddit threads that bring up legitimate criticism and the comments are always "well VT2 wasn't perfect on launch, you;re comparing a game with 4 years of support to a new one" Darktide should be an improvement over VT2 not a step back you chimps.
I feel like it's a Beta I've paid to be in. I've got a few characters at max level, I've got some decent gear. I'm not sure what else I'm actually supposed to do now? Play it to enjoy the gameplay? You fool, you cretin. Play with no progression like a simpleton? But seriously, the core gameplay is mostly very good, feels like there's the bones of a good game here it just shouldn't have been released yet.
They fineally fixed the crashing after every mission. So I can actually play, and gameplay got much smother now. So yeah after a few month it'll be worth it. Im still having fun but I can feel the ironing is necessary. The story just doesent exist. They should've made that escaped commander a rival atleast, someone you are gunning for to find and kill at one point. The painfully long loading screens are painfull.
I agree that the story is like just proloque for the actual story. The voicelines are good, but become a bit repetitive. Missions feel a bit samey and I so much hate parts where we have to carry barrels etc especially the cryo rods and plague samples. There is not much new from vermintides quests. Althoug i like the hacking and cleansing demon. What missions and athmosphere needs is visual confirmation that your squad and mourningstar is not only people still in the fight. Things like ordering artillery, seeing battles fought, saving encircled locals or atleast their data or after clearing a area having local troops take over the shipping yard / Aegis station. In deeprock galactic there is missions of going to salvage a failed mission. Best part and improvement from vermintide is the fighting. I just love that the fight can be mowing zombies or having firefight over distances like in COD or medal of honor
Honestly, from the very first trailer they ever released for this game i was expecting an actual 40k based horror game where guardsmen would have to fend off against a horde of nurgle based demons in the undergrounds of a hive city.( see here : ua-cam.com/video/Zp44GNRzvCc/v-deo.html) . which looked like an actual good concept for a game. . instead, we got this pile of absolute re-copied shit. Nobody wants vermintide 80th rendition, an actual horror based 40k game like it was originally advertised would have been a million times better. 😒
Love your videos but really not keen on your face being on screen over the gameplay most of the time. It’s just very distracting, especially how you were constantly changing size, angle and location.
Darktide is unpolished and kinda crappy , i don't have a grudge against the level designers and such just those that are keeping darktide from getting improved and those that are pushing microtransactions everywhere
You aren't going to get hate, I am a looong time Vermintide player and Darktide feels like they started developing it 2 years ago and just forgot to add all the damn fixes they made to Vermintide into it and it sucks.
Probably been pointed out already, but Vermintide 2 had 5 different character with 3 careers each. And it was physically impossible to play for 400 hours and not get an orange weapon in Vermintide: End Times. Once you get one, you can reroll w/e perks you want on it, and reroll the stat % of a specific perk, something not Vermintide 2, nor Darktide allows. So in terms of getting the best weapon, V1 is still the best in my book.
@@PonchaYT the review was entertaining though, I'm saddened about current state of affairs just as much. Can't even hope to see crafting in full strength by the end of this year. Probably will need couple months more..
i think my issue is darktide skimped out on both the classes and weapons. we dont have a vast amount of either. if they gave us a shitton of weapons and the ability to give them attachments and customize them, i think that would make up for the lack of classes. also maybe letting us choose different main abilities for a class

Very honest review. I really want to like Fatshark games but I cant. I know they are great with friends but that is not enough for my time.
My favorite part of the 40K universe is that if you call something the wrong thing you will get 40K people in the comment section correcting you.
Will you do one on stormground?
Excellent, balanced review.
"My hammer swings recharge my toughness on each hit."
Does it still? When I took a break from playing they made toughness only blunt damage instead of being a "shield," invalidating the entire point of the Zealot.
Inquiring minds would like to know.
I’m not sure 😂 I took a break as well.
"They thought it'd be better to spend their budget on a premium currency shop on launch then a crafting system."
Your mistake is equating that both have the same amount of work. They don't. Also, it's a 39.99USD game. People are expecting a AAA game for budget discount and we're not privy to what the budget for the game is, including it's rights.
I'd have liked the review without the just out of nowhere spoiler xD
"beeta"
Poncha have almost no fantasy when it comes to character names
you call betas like lois calls her peter, peta
The point of the daemon host is to avoid it, thats why you cant solo it. In a game where you walk into a room and start blastin, it forces you to exercise restraint and caution, if a horde attacks while youre passing one by, you have to avoid firing in its direction.
Edit: though i do agree bring back loot dice. If bosses only have a chance to spawn then reward players for beating a challenge they may not have othwrwise encountered
Poncha can finally give the guard more love like he promised In his unification mod video.

You're far too undersubbed. Great videos even if the plastic crack was never for me. Promised red dwarf content is never a let down.
Thanks very much mate.
I'm sorry but four rejects are not beating a plague marine
@@heathcooper9300 a word bearer was killed by a wooden spear in the HH books, so i could be possible.
Maybe have it so the plague marine finds you early in the map and you have to run from it while dealing damage using explosives and stuff, and the final room is like the boss fight with the guy with the shield, but the marine has whatever health he had left after chasing through the whole map, so it could be low or it could be high.

I’ll just keep it simple with a few bullet points:
• Specials that could grapple you in Vermintide were relatively squishy and avoidable.
I dont think it's the dev team who're throwing them out, though Games Workshop doing PR would make more sense
At release of VT2 and for about half a year after it, all you needed to complete any mission was Pyro with a bolt staff. So yeah, no regression there.
VT2 at launch was worse than Darktide. It had constant disconnects, the matchmaking took 10 years to find a match, the music kept cutting out, very poorly balanced even on the easiest difficulty, broken weapons and useless perks; overall darktide is a lot better now than VT2 at launch.
it should be mentioned that this game requires a connection to Fat Shark's servers, no hosting qwq
This is important
Just wanted to clarify that VT2 launched with 5 characters with three careers each which you said there were 4 characters at the 16 minute mark.
Yeah I forgot Sennia.
@@PonchaYT so did fatshark's 4th career
I will pick it up in a few years when it will be finished with -75% on sale 😎
the point about not enough classes might be very true. I have +2k hours in vermintide 2 and one of the things that keeps me comming back is trying out all those different builds for characters, however subtle it might be, it was very fun to fuck around with it, and gave depth to the game. Thing is, including DLC, Vermintide 2 has 19 classes to mess around with and with darktide you have 4
If weapon selection would drastically change how a character works then you can get away with 4 classes
Not to mention that the classes are so badly designed that only Veteran has any real build variety. Zealot and Ogryn have limited options in practical terms, and the majority of Psyker's feat rows have "must-pick" options that actively hurt you if you don't take them on diffs 4 or 5.

Trying a new type of Poncha.

@@PonchaYT according to UA-cams comment system he's trying 2 different types at the same time.
I've played the first public alpha and I feel like my biggest gripe with the game is how the difficulty scaling doesn't actually teach you habbits you need to develop to be proficient in higher difficulties in a game all about high skill
In addition the classes just aren't made to work with each other as much as they work alongside each other, I feel this especially since I'm spoiled by Deep Rock Galactic in which each class is made to excel in a specific field like digging tunnels, mobility, or being defensive with traversal tools that help the whole team even if you're focusing on only helping yourself, as a result DRG feels like coopiration while Darktide can feel like babysitting, even Fatshark mentioned that Darktide is about giving each player a moment of badassery which creates a competitiveness to a copritive game
Also the fact I couldn't see my teammates ammo is really irritating
Still a solid and fun game and the melee combat, environment, music, and litterally everything else is really good

I found so many concept flaws and balance issues it made me think again and again "was this even tested?"
Most blatant is the enemy design behind the bulwark the enemy ogryn with a shield.
The fucking powersword, the biggest crutch ever, it makes zealot almost redundant, its ridiculous how good it was (it still is crazy best in slot melee for vet)
without question there is no reason to take any other melee weapon beyond the powersword unless for your own personal preference most dmging, best crowd control best single target dps.

I have faith that Darktide will get better than its current blatantly unfinished state but I have absolutely no hope or expectation that it will ever be better than Vermintide 2. I went into it expecting not to like the characters as much, but confident that the gameplay itself would be great... but the entirety of the game is full of dumb design decisions from the very core that make it a step down in almost every conceivable way except the music. It's not a bad game, it's definitely not boring, but it is so disappointing.
I didn’t know anything about warhammer before Darktide. It completely drew me into the franchise and made me fall in love with it.
It's also on Game Pass so you could just play it there for now and see how you like it.

Thanks for the feedback I will note this.
gotta love the choice of the music for the ending.

5 characters. Vermintide has 5 characters not 4. 15 classes at launch in Vermintide 2.
Oh fuck I forgot Sienna
Seeing your face straight on and hella zoomed in so many times throughout this video is kinda weirding me out. Like. Why do you have to rub your face in my face every 15 seconds, I can't focus on the game footage because my eyes are getting constantly distracted and forced to look at your face popping into the screen. It wasn't like that in your previous vids. It wouldn't be bad at all if your face wasn't covering a fourth of the screen or sometimes even more than half. Then it feels like I'm getting jumpscare-pranked. No offense, just not my taste.
Thanks for the feedback. Will take into consideration for next time.
I'd love to actually play the game with my buddies if it didn't keep giving me network issues and kicking me from the lobby every time I try joining a server.
Sounds like Master chief collection all oer again lol.
Yeah I’m fortunate that I only had that a few times but one friend did have that issue a lot.
i had the same issue.
Once they add terminator armor the game will be complete
60% of gamers (console gamers): tell it to someone who cares!
I am so glad people are waking up to the fatshark cycle. You think this regression is bad? I think it could've been worse. I remember the jump from v1 to v2. They got off lightly. I expected a total disaster since they couldn't just reuse 80% of the older games content.
I had 4 humans and 2 bots in a game on the latest patch so it's still a problem.
Just wait 6 months for Fatshark to fix it just like Vermintide 2 or just wait for a sale,
the game is not worth $39.99
That intro, made me realized you shouldve played a better game that actually plays like a rhythm game like that. Play Bullets Per Minute or Metal Hellsinger.
Great review but every time you pronounce beta as beeta and not baita I want to die lol
This game hurts because Fatshark won me over enough to instantly love Darktide and I'm glad I do. It's the one of the best 40k games we've gotten since Space Marine, but at the same time there's so many problems and negativity that it breaks my heart.
I just wanna be happy again man, especially after this shithole of a year
The game is good, most of these negative reviews are pretty overblown. edit: It's good except for the bad optimization
Comparing Darktide to Space marine is heresy.
@@Alfninja there are definitely more problems than just bad optimisation that’s just the main one
How? No. Just no.
Every time I hear him say beeta I want to sacrifice myself to the Emperor 😅
As an American though we have no claim to the 40k franchise like the beeta testers in the UK of the future demon world we live in.
15:25, Don't worry they will fix it when they release Darktide 2
I don't know if this happened after a few updates but you can forcibly rotate missions if you quit and start the game again
I've seen so many forum/reddit threads that bring up legitimate criticism and the comments are always "well VT2 wasn't perfect on launch, you;re comparing a game with 4 years of support to a new one"
Darktide should be an improvement over VT2 not a step back you chimps.
My favorite voice line is from the female loose cannon veteran.
Teammate: “I need medicae!”
Veteran: “Wah wah wah, quit whinging!”
😂
Love your videos but really not keen on your face being on screen over the gameplay most of the time.
It’s just very distracting, especially how you were constantly changing size, angle and location.
The game will be fantastic in a year or two when its finally out of beta.

Nobody can save us from this grimdark future....
Cant wait for this to come to console
For me its a fat no, especially since i still crash every 20 min or so.
So in terms of getting the best weapon, V1 is still the best in my book.
yeah I did that part during night shifts and I regret it haha
@@PonchaYT the review was entertaining though, I'm saddened about current state of affairs just as much. Can't even hope to see crafting in full strength by the end of this year. Probably will need couple months more..
Why is there a massive face on the screen talking to me and obscuring the glory of the Emperor's will?
i think my issue is darktide skimped out on both the classes and weapons. we dont have a vast amount of either. if they gave us a shitton of weapons and the ability to give them attachments and customize them, i think that would make up for the lack of classes. also maybe letting us choose different main abilities for a class
i have found out that there always at least 3 people who review a game on steam starting with "i have a rtx 3080..."
Fatshark do suck at releasing games properly
Makes me think their publishers just pressure them to release and fix later
Does anyone know the song name that plays during the most of the Gameplay & Mechanics section? the ambient one
honestly, darktide it looks good but a bit shallow, ngl it made me go back to vermintide 2 for the moment
play 10/10
lore/ setting 8/10 ((if you love 40k already you will be in love, but the grim dark can wear on you))
story 4/10
progression; 7/10
i think he nails it on the head by saying: ive nevr played vermintide. i love dark tide. but hearing about whats missing from vermintide: i feel the urge to go kill some rats lol
Loved the vid but you just staring at me while talking and not moving one bit was the most unnerving thing ever.
