Time Capsule ’85 Honda Civic is the Cleanest EA-T We’ve Ever Seen. Runs on Carbs!

- When you think about a shop that specializes in building Honda, you’re probably thinking EG Civics, Integras, maybe even the odd NSX or two. But an EA-T Civic hatch? Jason at Genesis Automotive has a thing or two to tell you about those. They’re getting more rare now and getting harder to find OEM parts for, but for a family heirloom like this… it’s worth the trouble.

If you want that Larry Chen peeker sticker head over to the Etsy store. Each print comes with peeker stickers! larrychenprints.com/
I can tell you know nothing about carburetors because you were so quiet and you didn't ask what size they were. Lol
Wish I bought the one that was in my neighborhood that was for sale, but I'm also afraid to die 😫.
This was my first Honda. Same color and all. The start of a decent relationship.
Mine to. Well 87si, AF chassis right?
Mine was a manual red 1.5l GL model with 12 valve engine 80 hp and it was fast enough as it only weighed around 800 kg
you should have keep it lol
That rear wing is cool as hell. Notice how the "Civic" logo is the same "font" as the generation of the car. This is a detail item that Honda and Acura would carry over for a long time with the model name being imprinted into the bottom of the factory/optional spoilers.
Larry should have brought nads here,he would get crazy seeing all these
I always bring my nads
He's a real OG honda guy right there.... I could relate to that... the sum of the rare parts are worth more than the actual car.
A honda guy mantra...
And this is why i love honda What an amazing story and amazing build. so glad its in the good hands.
This is, no joke, one of my dream cars and seeing one as clean as this? Wooooow
I'm not even a Honda guy, but I appreciate the HELL out of this little car... my god is that thing cool! So tastefully done with the OEM+ look and the subtle rare goodies, and what was there has been beautifully preserved. Kudos to you Jason!
Thanks to Larry Chen for showing us these older cars.
This guy and this shop, really speak to me! I’m a bmw guy. But man I’d love an old Honda to work on and redline around the Cali canyons!
It's a very nice car...he says it's not flashy....but anyone that knows what they are looking at it will say it's very noticeable..🏁👍
The dude is humble af cool guy with cool cars, we need more gut's like this in the scene instead of toxic behaviour and hating (not good at english sorry)
The civic is almost as cool as the nsx's that surrounds it 🤣
I’m so happy you’re featuring this hatch. I saw it creeping in the background of your Celica video. So sick. 👌
time to sit down have a cup of coffee and chill with Larry
I love the car! Worked at Honda around 2002-2004 and I remember between the techs and the service writers on nice days we would all drive our clean Hondas to work. CRX, Prelude, Civic, Hatch Back Accord all 80s clean low mile cars at that time which we’re not even that sought after yet but we all enjoyed them lol.
Just got my first Honda car 2 weeks ago. 1984 crx from the original owners. It's another time capsule but apart from Momo Ferrari Engineering 14" wheels, Mines all stock still. No joke on hard to find parts. Or if you find them, the rarity markup is beyond belief.
I sincerely appreciate that og stuff is trending back. Your attention to details and dedication are second to none. Thanks Larry
I had a mint-ass 87 CRX Si and some lady pulled out in front of me and totaled it. I've had several nicer, faster cars since then but I miss that CRX the most. This EA-T is beautiful!
Dude, i had a ‘86 si and ‘87 si loved those little cars talk about fun. You could run under the radar cuz cops weren’t expecting a civic to blow past them @80 or 90 mph.
What a seriously cool time capsule, this thing should be in a museum! So glad it’s found a loving owner though, may it live a long long time ❤️
Some Honda models from the 80's are legend. I owned a 1980 Honda station wagon with the 1.3l engine.
I lived in a pretty cold location back then so I installed a block heater, 4 really good snow tires on steel rims, an electric overnight interior heater and sheepskin seat covers and steering wheel cover. Underground clearance wasn't great, but if I got stuck going forward the slick Honda 5 speed would rescue me in reverse or by rocking the vehicle back and forth.
That is a baller Civic, thanks for the tour! I really hope he starts driving it more, after all the work, it's a shame he doesn't enjoy it more. But I also understand his sentiment about burning it to the ground killing it completely if something ever badly damaged it.
I had this same car same color and all minus the zc engine on 13 incg enkis I miss it so bad such a cool honda
Got to love us dohc zc owners because we'll burn our stuff to the ground before we let anybody else enjoy it hell yeah brother love the build that hatch one clean little car 💯💯🤝🤝🤘🤘🤘🤘🙌🙌🥳🥳
I actually have one of these motors for sale I'm looking around for proper buyers people who understand what this is and know the value
@@chrisflores1448 which head does it have the hm-5 or the hm8 and then is it for the Civic or is it for the Integra cuz I got three of them I got a hm4 hm 5 and a hm8 all three of them are for the Civic EF to EK
It's a HM2 I got it out of a CRX swap though they went b18 had the axles and everything except for transmission which was newly built I don't believe it's the matching one though
This car is amazing. My 1987 civic si was totaled and sold - Drove around the Valley from 2005 - 2010. I sold off the Mugen CF48s with covers and steering wheel but keep the other Honda access items for future use. I still have the OEM wing (HONDA foam/rubber wing) still new, also have the power windows (very rare), the browntop ZC (JDM), and correct fog lights with CIVIC covers and interior switch. I missed out on a digital cluster about 7 years back. I will install once I have another E-at wonder civic.
Man this is like the cleanest and rarest 80's civic in the world 😎👌🏽 love it
I had an ‘84 1500 S, white over silver that I bought used with 40k miles in ‘88 and kept it for eight years. Loved that little car, well engineered for its time.
One of these was my first flip car when I was 13 started a new passion for me
Canada here, good morning! As Larry knows...I've rocked an '86 n '89 si...good job on the build! For tapes...iPad- Apple tv- TV -rca out to stereo w tape deck...voila! Tapes w any music you want. Happy New Year gentlemen! Keep turning that wrench... one love ❤️
Good looking Honda! Getting flashbacks to a '87 EXi aerodeck I had back in the day. Same color, wheel style and interior.
Classic Honda’s making me miss my 87 accord coupe.
I had a 86 as my first car I miss the flip lights
My buddy still haves his 88 accord coupe which he brought brand new.
Watching this video made me really miss my 89 integra. I was young and I treated it poorly.
Then I got to the part of the video where he stripped an 87 integra to fix the civic and... I may have bristled a little, but I think it was ultimately worth it.
The hunt for the "part" is one of the most fulfilling parts of building a car. I've owned my car for 10 years. I lost out on a Mazdaspeed Mx-6 wing on ebay about 2 years after owning the car. The thing was listed for months before I bid on it and put in a minimum bid. The next morning I got an email saying I was out bid by $5 and the auction ended. About a year ago I found another one and I am so happy to have it!
3rd gens are so good, shame theres such a little amount of them left now, here in England anyway
Rust and ricers got to em all.
Very cool. There are lots of these still around in my area. For a low pressure fuel pump, that's pretty loud. I wonder if he did inline or in tank, I'm sure he can run some rubber mounts or get a quieter one, something.
One of the cleanest civic I have seen!!! 😍😍😍
Last brand new car I ever purchased. Great to revisit this Honda, Larry Chen really getting some unusual nostalgia+ types. Thx man
That's crazy those that car right there that Civic we had two crx's me and my buddy TC he had a dual cam zc motor turbocharged in his and mine was all motor single cams you see just freaking amazing cars to drive and my buddy TC his car was fast like 11:50 in the quarter mile on a drag radial fast and a little bitty 85 or 86 CRX this is amazing
Funny to think that a feature like the recline & sliding rear seat is still getting used (or at least it was in my 2012 CR-V (also in my 2006 Acura MDX.
How's that cr-v ? I was considering a used one.
Dude I have been waiting for this moment since last update on the garage
Tremendous, Larry. Long time Honda head - loved every minute of this one!
I know it's a stretch but there is so much DNA in My gd3 Fit from this car! WOW!!
A fuel pump with a beatiful old school Civic attached to it.
That fuel pump would kill me having to hear that all the time.
Adds to the driving experience🤣
I'll take fuel pump over tire rub/scraping any day
I would have to add some sound deadening material over the access hole. It would drive me nuts to hear that constantly
That stranded compression would kill me having to hear that all the time.
Nannies home.
My 2001 Toyota Corolla 4afe came with a Carburetor an still has it to this day
This is the perfect civic, my favorite one by far
My GF would be a kid in a candy store at this shop lmao. She loves CRX's and Civics!
Marry her!..
Fun fact: an owner can retain the factory radio while easily adding a small module that is easily hidden from view which provides bluetooth &/or auxiliary cable connections. The modern module will provide substantially more power than the factory unit, naturally proving the ability to upgrade the speakers (which would also appear OEM, as they are generally installed behind the factory grille & is not visible); the module also provides a good start if the owner wanted to add an amplifier(s) to get more volume overall or to add a subwoofer system, if desired.
Edit: I failed to mention that it is also not complicated to retain functionality of the OEM head unit if the owner wants to keep the sound system looking original along with operating as it would have fresh from the dealership.
-other random tangent: it's sad how difficult it has become to get classic audio equipment repaired or maintenanced; I have had several owners of classic autos contact my mobile electronics shop to ask if I am able to repair a cassette deck, antique speaker, or other out of production equipment. Fortunately for them (& the rest of us that appreciate these touches), I am one of the last shops in this latest generation that is more than happy to do these repairs. Btw, 91% of the time, broken cassette decks simply need the head cleaned & perhaps replacement of a belt or drive motor for one of the capstans...truly a shame to see a classic car go under the knife, permanently altering the interior, just to throw in some cheap CD player from Walmart; sends a single nerd-tear down my cheek!
in the 7th gen accord, you could cut a hole in the central console to retrieve a connector so you could plug an mp3 player,
It always bums me out so hard when I see a beautifully restored or preserved car with some goofy ass modern stereo hacked into it!!
@@famicomnintendo the early 2000's altima had no provisions for an auxiliary input, in high school I nodded my friends head unit to create this feature by tapping into the pre-amp section of the head unit to solder in leads. The only real catch to it was that you had to put in a special CD (I made her a disc that was 60 minutes of silence) to be able to use the aux-in
What a beauty. There was a time when these dotted the landscape and have become virtual unicorns in good condition. Lucky guy!!
You are the best car blogger ever!!!! Peace and love from BOSTON MA. Keep up the good work🙌🏼
With the ZC motor this' like the JDM SI version. Would be perfect with the correct hood cover, front seats and SI emblem
Amazing car, shop and guy. Loved this one! I’d have to change that fuel pump though. It’s only a 1600 surely you don’t need that pump. It’s mad annoying.
When he said he just kept this car without money but family. It’s touching.
Should definitely have someone scan all the hard to find parts so they can be made in the future.
I had a 87 1500s myself back in the day..

I had an ‘84 CRX. Red like that. Was such a neat and fun car to drive for it’s time.
the feels my project caR IS 1985 also love my 944 just lowkey rebuilding till, being an old man one day with it
Larry's content is just another level ❤️
On your time mark around 27:30 or so you wondered what it was like to drive a new Honda Civic... I drove one new. A friend of mine bought the car straight off the lot. Still had 30 day tags on it. You have to remember during those days most cars were rear wheel drive. I wondered where the center console was for the stick shift. She didn't know but showed me the engine. I had just bought a 85 Toyota Celica GT-S Coupe. I didn't know anything about cars, I just thought it was sporty so when I looked at the engine I just knew it was sitting in there funny and wondered how it actually drove.
Who dislikes these videos should be banned from youtube! Larry's the man
I still cant believe this shop is legit 20 feet away from the shop I used to go to for my S14. Not sure if that shop is still there since I moved away about 6 years ago but if they are then shout out to Autotech by Beck! Dude was a Nissan wizard! He wasn't a tuner just a regular mechanic but dude did amazing work and was honest plus he had cool GTR diciest cars etc in his office. Also dude drove an oldschool Sentra that was super mint, legit have never seen a nicer example of a 3rd get Sentra. He retired and his nephew took over but that shop did really good work for me. It wouldve been so dope to see this shop when I was there getting my car fixed and getting to see all these cars.
A stunning time capsule, lovely carb sound 👍
You can fit any d16 header you will only need to notch the bolts to match the exhaust ports
Super cool little Honda. Brings back some fond memories.
Cool, clean civic. Kudos on the wheel choice and just-right stance. They look like compomotive rally wheels. If they didn't have the racing hart badge, I would have thought they were. I also love rare hard-to-find oem accessories like that rear roof spoiler. Sounds incredible. Love carbed engine setups when they're well-tuned.
something about old honda... really hits me in the chest. I miss my b18c EG hatch!
Been waiting on this one Mr. Chen!!!!
Funny thing is, I got a Honda Civic ad at the end of this video.
Damn I remember those Ontario races back in the day. Use to drive all the way from Compton. Fun days 👌🏽
my first car 86 honda civic si..all white ..i want one again..
I had a 87 Si in white with the same spoiler. My first civic
I have just bought an almost identical 85 civic in similar condition, but running the original engine.
It was garaged since 2006.
that mini is great
Who remembers going to Ontario and meeting up at the ampm gas station those were the days
Damn another car I used to own except mine was blue lowered on gold BBS rims.
Love the Civic and this episode, thank you 🙌🙏😷👍
That's a beautiful car. Love the clean and simple engine bay
That Honda swapped Mini tho... That's my dream build 😍
cool vid and Civic flatback! Seeing that ZC is such a throw back for me, use to have an '87 Si from 94-98 👌
Jason : “Weber carbs still make replacement parts”
Larry : “ hmmm “ ( no clue what he’s talking about )
yes they do
@@paulchristiansen7014 you can get whatever you need, some thing just require a bit of searching
I live so close this shop. My wife takes Honda across the street. I gotta stop by next time. Clean build
I've wanted to build this exact car for years. It just breaks my heart to know that so many of these cars have just been junked because Honda no longer supports their older cars. When Sochiro Honda was alive, he said he wanted to make sure people could always repair his cars, so Honda made parts for cars that were decades old. But once he died, they wasted little time killing that program. I'm sure it was expensive to maintain, esp. as the years passed and they made more and more new cars.
ZC, pure old-school, WOW
Pacesetter first gen Integra header fits without modifications.
I have owned for 3rd gens loved every one of them
Perfect look with the wheels 👌
Honda Culture is like Pokemon GO ; ] u must get them all :D
Loving the classic Honda content!
You should come over to South Africa, the 150, 150i and 160i was released over here. Not so popular anymore, but you still find alot of them around
That Civic is absolutely magnificent!
Man thats the perfect daily to hard park and eriks racing thats real old school and the webers🤤🤤🤤🤤
I wish Nads was there just to see his reaction 😂
I would give up one of my nuts to own this time capsule!! amazing build. I love the weber carbs!
You should definitely do a feature at the throtl/huntquarters shop.
I have a 90 hatch that’s been in the garage for 15 years. I start it and drive it around the block once a month and change the oil once a year. Parts are so hard to find.
You technically don’t have to change the oil for 5 years if that’s true 😂
@@MrPavalava I’ve worked in the oil industry for 21 years. Your wrong.
@@Scottstunts nobody changes their oil after 15 miles because nobody’s around the block is miles upon miles. Your funny. I’m glad you entertain yourself because nobody cared to even bother to comment on such a retarded statement.
Technically oil shelf life in the original sealed container is five years. But you didn’t know that cause, well your just talking out your ass.
In high school my buddy had a CRX that he was always modifying and wanting to race my Dodge Dart. He could never beat my V8 on a 1/4 mile but he handled the curvy country roads a hell of a lot better and had a higher top speed.
Mine still has the CVCC you boys are lucky with those Webber’s
I have an all original 91 si hatch literally unmolested
The rear seats have special features should have asked about that
Didnt Jason go over the reclining and forward sliders, was they more features than those?
FYI Larry that honda stealership across the street did not exist until the early 2000s. So there's no possible way it was from there.
in those days we used to spend hours making mixtape.... I kind of miss those times.
These Hondas got me bricked up
