Couple of observation after doing this job. For a few dollars and a few minutes, it's well worth getting a line disconnect tool to take the fuel line out of the way. Seemed to be pretty easy to do and really opened up the space if you're able to do so. Also, when putting the cover back on, put your fingers over the rear lower hole in the gasket to help protect the gasket from getting cut by the cam shaft griddle.

this guy missed two important steps. with the valve covers removed, you should see on each bank a line near the chain the line that needs silicone sealant. otherwise, your valve covers will start to leak. if that happens, you will have to do the job over again.

This is awesome. I've called around a few shops to ask about cost to replace the valve cover gasket since I have a leak, one guy said $800 due to needing to drop the engine to access. I had already checked online forums and other CVPI owners and they said BS. Everywhere else that will do it for a reasonable price is booked up, and I'm moving soon.
I'm probably going to do it myself and definitely clean the engine pay first. I just got the oil changed, so I'll keep an eye on any possible debris. Lots of things need little fixes here and there on my car, but she has always been a workhorse and got me where I needed to go. Thank you for this video and your wisdom.

After watching part 1 and 2, I'm definitely gonna be changing out my valve cover gaskets this summer. I recently did my intake manifold, which I could've done the valve gaskets since I had so much off but ran out of daylight. This seems like a simple job that doesn't require much to be removed to get to. Only thing I would do differently on the passenger side is remove the fuel line that goes over the cover. It seems it would be more easier to remove the cover that way. Great videos, I'm about to check out your channel.

Appreciate you posting this video. As an owner of Many many Ford Panthers, I found that the 1998 and later fords design in the engine bay makes easier to service parts. AMD removing valve doesn't look so.intimidating.
HOWEVER, not so with the 80s fords 5.0 Windsor engines. Pre 1987 cluttered with snakes of vacuum lines on top. And the 1988 to 1991 multisport injection not so easy either. First off, you got this monument (gravestone) called the upper intake manifold, and more vacuum and egr stuff sitting on top.
On the 2001 grand marquis I had, I did it myself.
On my 1991 grand marquis, I paid mechanic, because of the gravestone.
I recently picked up a 1989 grand marquis, same issue not surprised and for some reason, not that anxious like lasttime. Seriously, right now on toilet takin a load off, gonna shower and go to.bed. yeah I can sleep. Because after having owned so many of box fords and chevys (Chevy 305 had all the leaks that I found in fords, rotted out hydraulic lines, bad vacuum hoses, leaks, they all loved to take a.leak)
But seriously, Im gonna do it myself thistime. Maybe pickup Haynes repair manual as a resource. Since no mfer on UA-cam does 1980s fords mercury grand marquis..

98 and 06 has totally different passenger side valve cover, so does the clearance issue. Take a close look and you will notice his engine oil filling cap is on passenger side right? yours I'm sure is on the driver side, under the giant ruber air intake tube. In order to do this job on yoru car, I believe you either have to roll the engine by release the passenger side engine mount, or remove the AC box. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Did this in 2015 on my 1999 MGM. Bout to do it again on a 1996 Grand Marquis....Yeah the back corner bolt is definitely a bitch. If u don't get it right it will leak oil onto the starter and make the starter fail. Lesson learned. Had to order a second gasket set just for the passenger side I used a "pivot SnapOn 1/4" socket wrench with a cut handle to get in there the second time. Impossible to torque the back bolt by the housing imo.

The Installation of the valve cover gaskets REQUIRE a Dap or ribbon Of RTV silicone between the front timing cover case and the cylinder head, failure to follow this simple instruction, will create a rather large oil leak in short order.. Do overs waste time.

If I remember right you have to come in from the front pushing it towards the back under all the harnesses & hoses. Takes some finagling and stretching of hoses and wires. Make sure the gasket stays seated. I had to do it over cuz the gasket got weird and tucked in and I thought it was good. Leaked oil all over starter and my starter went out shortly after.

Use a block of wood against the cover then use a hammer and hit the wood, don't be scared but don't try to be he-man either. I couldn't find any wood so I used a shoe and a hammer.

It's terrible advice to suggest washing the engine bay on a 4.6 l engine... The boots on your coil over plugs will never seal properly you'll end up with corrosion all around the electrode. It will cause a misfire you just need to use compressed air and spray out each spark plug well with compressed air
