This is the correct method but a 20-30mmHg compression sock is a real test of determination, perseverance, fortitude, bravery and sheer stubbornness. And, of course, the size of sock vs. size of foot & leg can make life easier or harder. Do this every day and you won't need an expensive gym membership.

God, you are so right. I am young, I am a 28 year old nurse and I would like to keep my legs free of varicose veins and not hurt after a 12 hour shift so 20-30 really help BUT God in heaven are they difficult to put on. I have carpal tunnel and after a while trying to pull them over my legs, my hands cramp. Every single time.

@@sabrinarosario6499 Nurses work HARD. I don't believe the general public knows how tiring it can be. On your feet almost all of the time, constantly on the move. My mother did that after becoming a widow with 5 kids. I know she was a saint . . . and a nurse. My hat is off to you and here's a chair. Take a short rest and then back to work. 😇

I have to tell you reading your post made me LAUGH SO HARD! I have gone through the same exact thing - how can these things help when they are next to impossible to get on by yourself?! Between being older, having bad knees, not being as limber as I once was, it's quite the ordeal! They feel so good when you get them on, but by then I'm exhausted! So thank you for the laugh & for letting me know I'm not the only one going through that!

My mother wore a stronger compression than 30. When she first started wearing them, she put them on herself. She kept plastic gloves like you wash dishes or do cleaning in the drawer with her compression socks. She wore the gloves to smooth the wrinkles. Four years before she died, she taught me and others how to put them on her. I wear one compression sock/ sleeve on my right leg. It has the zipper and it is a bear to get on. My husband assists me most mornings.

After watching this video from Oswald's Pharmacy, I can now put on my stockings in a few minutes quite effortlessly. I do it in two steps, as shown in the video: first, I pull up the stocking to the heel; then, I pull it up to the knee. This is where I still have a problem. After I make sure there is the space of two fingers below the knee, I adjust the stocking all the way down to the calves. I end up with quite a bit of loose fabric right there - over the calves. So, I gently pull up the stocking - and I end up with the stocking ON the knee. This is a "no-no", for it hinders good circulation. Could you ask your "Stocking Specialist" what I can do to solve this problem?

This video is the best I've seen for putting on compression stockings. I'm a man in my late 70s. Like most of the people in the comments below, I find it quite time-consuming in the morning to put on my compression stockings. The problem I have is adjusting the top of the stockings about TWO FINGERS below the knees. After I do this, the stockings end up RATHER LOOSE at the ANKLES, where compression is needed MOST. So, I pull up the stocking to make sure that the area around the ankles is smooth and tight. And I end up with the stockings RIGHT UP UNDER the knees - with not enough space for the two fingers. Can you suggest what I can do?

Thank you SO MUCH! I've been struggling for YEARS putting these things on. My socks don't have toes & go up to my knees. I went to a medical supply store with a Rx from my doctor for compression socks. They measured my leg & gave me size MS of 20-30 mmHg (I don't know what that means). I told them they were way too tight & were cutting off my circulation just below the knee, leaving a deep impression there as if I'd had a tight rubber band on it all day. They said "well, we measured you." That's it. I'm not sure how they should feel but I thought the idea was to improve circulation not cut it off. I've tried pulling the sock up over my knee but as soon as I move it rolls down back under my knee. The people at the medical supply store are quite unfriendly & of no help. Can someone please tell me if the way these fit & feel - too tight at the top with a strange 'burning but cold' feeling throughout the lower leg - is the way it's supposed to be? Or should I just get some bigger generic compression socks from Walmart or Walgreens? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

If I were you I'd ask the doctor for my script to be moved to a different site of your choosing and see if they give you the correct measurements. @OswaldsPharmacyNaperville  5 років тому

Glad to hear that Beverly! Change in leg measurements can happen in the first week of using compression. Though based on condition, it's often best to continue wearing compression stockings even after improvement to prevent future swelling. Either way, we recommend speaking with the physician who prescribed the stockings in the first place to give you a more educated answer. Good luck and thanks again for watching the video Beverly!

Mine are thigh high, open toes. I need to figure out how to do this on my own after my legs have been operated on for venous reflux. They will have injections, cuts and lots of bruises. I have tried to get them on with normal legs and I finally got one on but it took twice the effort to remove them. Mine are 30/40 and hurt so bad around my foot, ankle, knee and upper thigh. I almost had a panic attack and got the scissors to cut them off. I ran my thumb nail in my leg and it started bleeding on the sock. I am on blood thinner. 911.

for me, getting them over the heal is the easy part, its getting them over the toes thats the hardest, but once you,ve got them over the toe area, (which is obv,ly the widest part of anyone,s foot,) the rest of it(inc the heal) is the easy part, i,ve'made a device out of a piece of plastic house guttering that i can easyley put the sock over the rounded shaped edge. (That i shaped the piece of guttering with a pair of tin snips then sanded to make smooth) i put my foot in then pull the plastic gutter contraption out & they are on, over the toe,s, the rest( inc the heal) is easy

    • @OswaldsPharmacyNaperville
      @OswaldsPharmacyNaperville  5 років тому +3

Sorry to hear you're having trouble Beverly! If the stockings are bunching at the knee, make sure you have the right size. Compare the measurements on the box they came in to make sure they match your leg measurements. If you don't have your leg measurements on hand, use a guide like this: www.jobstcompressioninstitute.com/uploads/Document-Library/0e59c87ef8b25ba0fc58cf20edf6c465.pdf to get them. It's best to measure early in the morning before any swelling sets in. We also recommend to keep your nails trimmed so you don't damage your stockings, or more importantly, don't scratch yourself! Look into donning gloves to prevent damage and scratching as well. Even some dish or gardening gloves will do the trick. Best of luck and thanks for watching our video!

All of these videos are not working. We get friction burn on our fingers just trying to get them over the ball of the toes and the heel. We have to Force it over the toes and heel so hard it hurts and then do the pinch and pull method all the way up. Now we have a $50 pair of socks with runs in them on day 2. 🤬

We're sorry to hear that Jacey. What level of compression are they? If you have a nearby medical equipment store that measures for compression socks, perhaps they can measure and find a better fit and/or strength for you? Or if the physician is insistent on a higher compression level, perhaps using a device like a donning butler (oswaldspharmacy.com/products/medi-donning-butler/) will help.

so many demonstrations on here are useless, the models' legs too slim for the compression so the stockings flow on easily!...this is more realistic, clear and sensible

Not so easy stockings are much tighter than ones in film. Not easy for a 92 year old with no help

Thanks for watching Wendy. If the heel pocket out method doesn't work for you, we'd recommend looking into a butler. We'll need to make a video on how to use this accessory! You can see what it looks like here: oswaldspharmacy.com/products/medi-donning-butler/

I don’t know how on earth you can manage? Are donning aids any help?

Some of The people (seniors) who will be buying these socks will never be able to get them on per ANY video on UA-cam! Socks are great idea but not practical to get on .. Who has purchased these without thinking there’s special directions to put a pair of socks on????
