Hi, I think the very first sample at the beginning of the video looks quite nice, shows deep colors and gradients. Later samples definitely look much worse, the camcorder has seen better days, its mechanism is in bad shape, it growls and rattles and it chews tape, it needs to be repaired, but this would cost me several hundred dollars as I am not an electronics tech. Also, the widescreen samples suffer from reduced vertical resolution, as the sensor is not widescreen. The SZ7 is very nice for a single-chip camera, I agree! And it works!

Я не видеоинженер, наверное, лучше почитать спецлитературу. Chroma phase это соотношение частот между компонентами цвета и, по-моему, ошибки в фазе сильнее всего сказываются на цвете NTSC, поэтому телевизоры NTSC имеют подстройку цвета, даже две: hue и color. Поэтому когда копируешь SVHS на SVHS, быстро набегают ошибки по цвету. Для этого в продвинутых видаках есть режим EDIT, который отключает эту задержку - задержка изначально не на пленке, а генерируется на выходе. У моих видаков такой функции нет, поэтому я пользуюсь фильтром flaXen VHS Filter для VirtualDub, который позволяет сдвинуть цвет по горизонтали и вертикали. У компонентных форматов задержка по цвету тоже есть, там она уже вписана на пленку. Про System Phase не знаю. Можно погуглить :)

Even with the (probable) bad capacitors and weaknesses of SVHS-C, I think I can see a clear picture quality advantage from the 3CCDs, especially in the shots at the start of the video. To me, colours are richer and better nuanced, as you'd expect in a 3CCD MiniDV camcorder. I wonder if, given the model's rarity, it would be worth getting the camcorder fully serviced? Great video, by the way! :)
Thanks! It gets worse - I dropped it. Thankfully, I dropped it on carpeted floor, so it does not work any worse. Yeah, it is quite a unique model, but I cannot repair it myself, so it would cost a lot. Not sure I am ready to spend several hundred on it.
The EZ1 is a very cool camcorder, one of the first MiniDV camcorders, the other ones are the VX700 and VX1000 from Sony. I would love to get my hands on it, they seem to be less rare yet more expensive. I learned about the AG3 by chance and was able to get one cheap, hence the video :)
Hi! I've watched several of your videos, very informative! Especially on video capturing and editing. Sorry, kinda unrelated to this video, but i got a question. Do you have any recommendation for an alternative to pinnacle dazzle DVC100? Since I'm from the backside of Europe, to purchase a dazzle means forking 100+€. Few months ago I saw a great deal on a dvc170 and figured, since it was only 60€ with shipping, would be worth a try. And try I did, for months. Finally I can get it to work exclusively on a windows 7 32 bit system using their DVD Recorder software. I've digitized a single VHS because the process requires many conversions, its just painful and stupid. Still have not found an alternative software (that runs on W7 32 bit) to capture the video with. I'm ready to cut my losses on the DVC170 and get something better: like a DV camcorder, Blackmagic analog to sdi converter, AIO DATA GV-USB2, Open Source Scan Converter (OSSC)? Any wisdom? Thank you!
DVC100 works well, but its video is a bit soft, and it has no TBC functionality. Most dongles don't have TBC functionality. I bought my DVC100 on eBay for about $10, I would not buy it fot $100. The VC500 is sharper, but the driver is unstable, at least on my machine, sometimes I need to reboot to re-enable it. There are reports that it may change the brightness of the picture because of how auto-gain works, I haven't noticed it. IO DATA GV-USB2 is highly praised, I think it has the same chip as the VC500 but without its deficiencies, but I haven't used it. The AverMedia card stabilizes mildly distorted video, but cannot help with a really bad one. I send unstable videos through a Sony Digital8 camcorder, it stabilizes the video really well, but it clips highlights. The Mitsubishi MD3000 VCR stabilizes regular video really well, but fails to stabilize really bad video and often repeats a whole frame, which is unacceptable for regular video, I guess it is acceptable for a medical video. So far I haven't found the perfect solution.

Was really hoping for 1 solution to fit all, since I was supposed to digitise all kinds of old tapes from the whole extended family. Who knows in what state are some of those. Thanks! I think the most attainable and the most common solution is to to use a reasonably decent A/D converter like the GV-USB2, and send the video through a DVD recorder, using it as a TBC. Forums like videohelp.com list the models that can be used for this purpose. So far I have not tried this approach because I haven't seen a suitable DVD recorder in a local thrift store, and I did not feel like overpaying on eBay.

Nice to see another video of this rarity of a camcorder. I overviewed it last year and had the camera itself for 18 months at this point

Keen to see a video on the Panasonic AG EZ1/NV DX1
The EZ1 is a very cool camcorder, one of the first MiniDV camcorders, the other ones are the VX700 and VX1000 from Sony. I would love to get my hands on it, they seem to be less rare yet more expensive. I learned about the AG3 by chance and was able to get one cheap, hence the video :)
