Which way the 12-Qi Cycle goes depends on the system you use. Some methods do not allow the counter-clockwise cycle to be used (regardless of the Stem's polarity). If you need to understand deeper than what I present, you can read the book Water Water Everywhere. It is still available as a e-book. Some methods do use the polarity, but different methods can have different maps of polarity. For example the Early Heaven Water Method and the Assistant Star Water Method (both as detailed in Water Water Everywhere) use different charts of what they consider Yang and Yin! San He very complicated with many methods out there in use.
