Which side of the island do you prefer to stay on if you've been here before? West Maui or South Maui?
West side. Every side of Maui is a
good side to visit, but west is my preferred place to just chill.
I’m West side. Went in June 2019 stayed at the Westin. Going again in May 2022 for 11 days. Me and the Wifey can’t wait. Thanks for the videos
Great video. We live in Kula and loved all the advice, especially the pulling over part and the reef safe lotion part. May want to mention, for those who like wind and, depending on the season, bigger waves, Hookipa, Kanaha (wind sports) and seeing Paia.
West side...Maui Kai. Stayed on south side...not as much to do. Camped at Olowalu...calm and quiet.
Kihei! It was chiller to me than Lahaina and much more central so it was easy to trek back to Kauhlui when needed. It also felt WAY less touristy and less hot than Lahaina.
We stayed in Kihei last week! Maui is beautiful and I agree with all our your suggestions. I had no issues with my place, it was super cheap yet clean and safe. We were only in the room to sleep, didn't even turn the TV on once. There is so much to do and see, your days go by so quickly. A rental car is a must in my opinion if staying in Kihei.

When we go, we always stay at Kaanapali….specifically, The Aston Whaler. We book a room with a kitchenette. As soon as our plane lands and we get our rental, we go to Costco to stock up. .

Definitely South Maui for me. There are some beautiful and reasonably priced condos with everything you need to be self-sufficient during your stay.

We love staying in Kihei! its in the "Middle" of the island, so everything we want to do is usually a short drive away. Lahaina is a little further but not bad, and a scenic drive!

We will be taking our first trip there, December 26 2022 to January 1, Super excited,
Kahana side was my first apt. in west side in 1991.
Gotta love those sunsets on that side.
With that said I do like Upcountry , I had some friends up there. It was nice to be up in the cool mountains.
On our way. We will be in West Maui tomorrow. We’ve not been there and we are traveling with our son, his wife and their 5 year old twins and 6 month old baby. We can’t wait to snorkel and just my husband and I will be traveling the road to Hana. Most looking forward to that :-) Thank you so much for all of your great info!!

I’d reccomend the luau at the Grand Wailea since it’ll be near your hotel and you don’t want to drive to far after a luau.

Check on road conditions before going on Road to Hana, Sometimes bridges or roads have slides during rainy season. We come 2 times a year for a month each time and wouldn't be without a car. We stay in Kaanapali. Love Lahaina! Ask about Beach conditions, wear flotation! Currents can be strong!
Great video! One thing I would like to add (if someone hasn't mentioned it yet) is, for the most part the only time the locals have to go to the beach is on the weekends. So out of respect maybe try to stay away from the more popular spots on those 2 days. I would say my favorite area is Kihei/ Wailea, some beautiful big beaches in that area.

How about a few things to do if you have someone in a wheelchair? Staying at the Westin Ka naapali Ocean Condos beginning July 10th.
Honolua is OK in the winter if you are on a snorkel boat tour. Done that many times in February and March.
Yes just depends if the river is flowing though from the rain in the mountains. Always hit or miss. If it’s raining, the bay is brown.
As far as the road to Hana and the locals, will they just ride our butts until we pull over? put the flashers on? honk? We will be there starting July 2. Also is there anywhere to see fireworks on July 4th? Staying on the North side of Kihei. Thanks! Great Video!!

3 nights in South Maui 3 nights in West Maui and 3 in Hana.
I'm very interested also nervous but excited 😂 of moving to Hawaii. I'm a single mother of 3 (16,11,&1). No sure what area to reside in with schools, basic necessities. Coming from Albany ga. Also, have questions about getting my motorcycle and car transported there.
Napili bay was absolutely stunning and our condo was very affordable, definitely going back in the near future and we will for certain stay on the west side!!!

Get a drone! They are great! You just have to stay below a certain altitude due to Kapalua airport nearby.

For senior citizens, I've seen a suggestion of renting a camper van so you can stay in that and travel around the island. Do you recommend that? We are looking for affordable place to stay plus a chance to really explore the basics of the island, not off-road, not dry camping just the basics. Quick question - we weren’t expecting to have to make restaurant reservations and someone told us we should look into it just because of reduced capacity - turns out a lot of the restaurants in Lahaina have no reservations available two weeks out. 🤣 are most places still accepting walk-ins? Second question - best local fish restaurant close to Kaanapali? We’ve been there before but are always looking for hole in the wall places. THANK YOU!
Many of my favorite restaurants actually don't take reservations, so I wouldn't worry to much about it! I'll be making a video about this topic soon actually.
Tamura's in Lahaina has my favorite fresh Poke on the island. Restaraunt-wise, I'd say Paia Fish Market or Fish Market in Honokowai is great!

South, its too much of a drive to go anywhere from Lahaina to other parts of the island vs if you are in Kihei its not too far from anything.
