I played a 6 string in my band, and though we scoffed when the 7s came out, we quickly adopted them so as not to be left behind, and subsequently ruled the 00s with our metal, Lamb of God, Killswitch, As I lay Dying, Unearth, Amon Amarth... **sigh** good times... Now the new generation has come, we've passed the torch, and my daughter wants to play an 8 string guitar when she gets a little older. All the cool kids have them in the 2010s and early 2020s... and you know what that means guys??... YOUR children? When they are born and grow up and then start smoking pot in your basement to avoid you dysfunctional family? *10 strings Motherf--ker!* ... Tuned to "drop R flat" or sometimes " Q sharp". (its a new note, you dont even get it, zoomer)....you will scoff, you will frown upon it... and then recall tales of "the good ole days" when guitars went "djent djent" and everyone tapped in dissonant minor seconds and used the DAW's cut tool to make weird robotic gaps in their guitar lines... but NO!!! Then, your grandchildren come along and.... FULL REVERSAL - 4 string guitars b-tch! Nothing but A-D-G-B... E strings are fully outlawed, and all music sounds like old school modems connecting to AOL with a shrieking woman in labor for vocals... I'll be f-cking dead by then so I don't care... But please, for me... make sure to shake your heads "no" in disapproval and play the classics for them like Periphery and Infant Annihilator. This glimpse of the future was brought to you by lack of sleep and my confusion as to the direction of heavy metal in the last 10 years.

@fuknwastd You're entitled to that opinion, but you can't argue that Meshuggah is one of the most artistically thriving bands we've ever seen. They're extremely influential and every single one of their songs is different from the one before, even if the memes and stereotypes all indicate otherwise. Regardless of this, you are very mad, since you attacked the liking of a person because you disagree with them. I don't understand why..
@fuknwastd A fact which is very much subjective. Artistic voidness is completely dependant on the observant, for once. And the songs do go places! Have you given a try to Catch Thirtythree? The whole album, by the way, never separate songs. The beauty of Meshuggah is that their albums are an entity, and they're made to be listened to from one end to the other. Even if you argue "beats on beats in 4/4" can't be artsy, which they personally can, their songs are definitely not linear, they do go places, and perhaps most importantly, tell a story. They're as much a byproduct of a band as they're a byproduct of a philosophy textbook.

It wasn't stolen, the creator of that magazine (Ron Quintana) had two ideas for the name, "Metallica" or "MetalMania", Lars, which was a friend of Ron, really liked THAT name, so he asked if Ron could use "MetalMania" as the magazine name and borrow "Metallica" as his band name. So no, it wasn't stolen, they asked permission if they could use that name.

This makes me wonder if we'll remember any of today's metalcore/djent songs in ten years or more. Yes, they sound awesome and are incredibly technical, but there's clearly a benefit to memorable riffs, which Metallica undoubtedly managed to masterfully pull off.
What modern metal is definitely missing, imo, is dynamic powerballads like One and wide soundstages like on Stairway to Heaven. Too much wall of sound these days!
