The ability to admit you're wrong is an extremely mature and frankly necessary part of the process of being able to learn and do things in the world, and should be respected. It doesn't necessarily forgive everyone for everything they've done but people need to be given the space and support to change.

I'm very impressed with his introspection. I also work in a steel fabrication company, so we had a lot of the same effects on us as this guy talks about, but I'm the only person at my workplace that doesn't support Trump even now. I've even asked them why and they said that they felt the business did better under rupublicans generally. It's reassuring to see this guy talking like this.

I’m English and I have to say I saw through Trump when I first saw him grifting on tv in the late 70s.Why is half of America blind to that narcissist.
It's much less than half of America and dwindling every day. The problem (in 2016 anyway) is getting people to vote for someone else. In states like Alabama the racial and cultural resentments among white people are so strong that even an obvious narcissist who promises to put the white man back in charge is appealing. Dare I say it: Brexit was driven by much the same thing.
It is not half, thank goodness. Still too many but not half.

It is very simple large segment of the USA population lack education, as a result they are uninformed and gullible.
Trump gives people permission to let out negative impulses, or ideas within themselves; more ore less, 'the dark side'. I'll give you an example. When Trump first ran for the presidency there were some brave hecklers, while he was speaking. Trump told the audience, that someone should take care of the hecklers, and if someone crossed line and was arrested for assaulting the heckler, he would take care of the bail. So in other words, he would support a criminal reaction.
In another case, he told a audience of police officers that it was okay, if they hit a suspects head against the police car's frame while arresting a suspect of a violent crime. I can see that happening and might even do it myself, if I were a police officer. But publicly saying that it was okay, is another matter. I took note, that he called witnesses who testified against him, in the his first impeachment trial; "human scum"; when in fact the witnesses had strong credentials, such as having an Ivy League degree, distinguished military honors, etc. So that opens the door to call others various, negative terms.
My brother recently complained about the economy and blamed Biden-omics. I corrected him and told him that actually, this, this, and this etc were all better now compared to Trump. He went silent and didn't know what to say. He was only parroting what others had told him without looking at the facts.!!! He had nothing to say back and changed the subject!! I stupidly voted for Trump the first time (lifelong GOP), but quickly realized my mistake within days of him in office. My family was raised in a religious cult (Mormon) and we were trained from a young age to not question anything and only believe what the leaders tell you to believe. Mormonism and Trumpism are the same!!! Evil cults!!! Glad I finally saw the light!

I'll vote Biden, and not third party or stay home, because I want to maximize the dynamic of making sure Trump can't win... third party or not voting wouldn't do that. As an Alabama resident, it hit when he said the politics of Trump make it OK for bad people to be bad. That.
We've seen the effect even up here in Canada. People feel emboldened to be mean to immigrants and low-income Canadians. They also prefer to spread nasty fake rumours than watch legitimate non-partisan news.

Regardless, it is precisely correct - all of Tr**p's words and behaviour pretty much bring out the absolute worst in people. It is the 'divide & conquer' political tactic which is widely used by any political figure attempting to obtain power over people. When it is 'perfectly fine' for people to be explicitly hateful, prejudice, racist, etc. towards each other, the divisions between groups of people grow and eventually groups become isolated from each other. Creating these divisions makes it very easy for the power-hungry individual to spread lies for the purpose of sowing fear between groups, driving them further and further apart, and the outcome is often each group viewing the 'other' as inhuman. This is precisely what the power-hungry individual is attempting to achieve - they use fear-mongering and division to take control over specific groups, which the ultimate goal of obtaining control over all groups (ie. the whole country). Dictators of the past and present all use this tactic - the very reason why so many around the world are worried if he is to be re-elected, and why so many in the US are trying to warn everyone.
I, too, was working in construction just before Trump ran for President. I lived in Las Vegas during the construction of the Trump building there.
I don't understand how anyone in construction could vote for this guy when he refused to pay contractors and then sued them for defamation when they complained and called him a deadbeat.

Those of us who have been against Trump from the beginning need to give some space to those who voted for Trump and are now against him. It’s very hard for them to admit they were wrong (human nature) and if we don’t allow them back into the fold without getting in their faces and mocking them they will never come back to reality. People make mistakes and we need to accept them back without attacking them.

But at the same time I am constantly amazed by all the “fiscally conservative” people who totally and completely ignore the fact that it is Democrats who lower deficits, Democrats who seek to lower debt, Democrats who create jobs, Democrats who support US based industry, Democrats who look out for people’s pay, working conditions, health.
Republicans do none of this, yet get the credit all the time, because they have some sort of reputation from 50, 70 years ago for being fiscally responsible.
And again, right near the end of this interview, Kyle literally lists all the things the Democrats are actually doing or trying to do, but are getting stopped by Republicans, but still would be voting Republican if Trump was no longer around. Even in his Eureka moment he is not getting it!
It's hard to acknowledge that you were wrong or believed the wrong thing, and it takes a lot of guts to admit it to a small group of friends, much less a national audience. I admire it, and I hope that others follow his lead.

Yeah, I have respect for this guy. Not because he is voting Biden but he seems to have integrity and morals. Something that seems to be missing from MAGA. Dignity and common decency has been lost on that side of the fence. Following a narcissist is rarely a good idea in any aspect of life. I think the more someone is invested the harder it is to admit they are wrong generally speaking. And they are quite invested.
The more ego you have, the harder it is to admit that you were wrong. That’s why I think it’s harder for straight men to admit they’re wrong than women and LGBTI people, who tend to be a lot better at that. Straight men could learn a lot from gay men if they took the time to speak to them.
Admitting failure is not the Trump supporters strong suit. That level of introspection is the antithesis to what being a MAGA follower is.

This guy deserves massive credit for the humility he's demonstrating by being interviewed like this. He's also giving us a masterclass in what exactly we're dealing with here: Trump supporters and conservatives more broadly don't actually think through policy positions except for when they are personally affected in adverse ways. The fact that his own ideas about regulation fall apart after even just 10 seconds of scrutiny didn't mean anything to him *until he* was affected by a completely different issue (the steel tariffs). Only then did he reexamine his own beliefs and give them the 10 seconds' worth of consideration required to realize were total bogus.
what we need to take from this is that conservatives are gullible, selfish, and content in their ignorance. Interviews like David's, conducted with compassion and grace (that someone like this frankly doesn't deserve, after the damage he's done to the country I love), are hugely instructive and valuable. Thanks David.

I've been pretty angry at trump supporters honestly even though I do realize that it is in large part a cult and what is needed is compassion. It's hard for me to feel compassion for people who are a threat to my future because they are going to vote for someone who is so dangerous to this country and myself. But I can see in this interview how that is needed and I really did feel a lot of compassion for this man. Thank you for this interview, I miss those days where we could just talk like people. 😢Thank you for voting for Biden. You are doing the right thing.

It might not be so easy to avoid getting pulled into a cult of personality when your peers, your family, your news broadcasters, your papers, hell, even the fucking preachers participated in spreading the crazy shit we hear coming from people at maga rallies and such. It's easy to see it for what it is when you aren't the target of the deception, but maybe it makes sense when you are surrounded by ones you trust repeating these lies out of fear or anger because hate-mongers like tucker sat therewith that fake concern on his face while telling them the enemy is at the gates and everything is at stake, even your very soul.
tldr celebrate when people escape that existence, don't wave your finger at them like a narcissist looking to feel superior.

I have pondered this for some time and I have come to the conclusion that to vote for trump a person must be lacking in intelligence or integrity, not both just missing one or the other. This dude got fooled by the TV show but but had the integrity and intelligence kick in.
