Well you're not going to see the crappy exposures he does until he gets it right. Did you really expect to see bad exposures on his final cut of the video?
I Love watching these guys before I fall asleep. Seriously, their videos are fascinating without being too exciting, and there's a zen-like quality to slow mo. Even their humor is laid back! Ok, gonna sleep now.
The Chinese Spouting Bowl first appeared in the Han Dynasty (202 BC - AD 9). Four “Han” dragons can be seen in the bottom of the basin, spraying streams of water up the sides of the bowl. It is said that the bowl was a kind of plaything for nobles, gifted scholars and socialites in the Ming Dynasty. It was believed to foster happiness, prolong life and increase strength. Use the Resonance bowl to demonstrate the behavior of waves and their interactions. Due to the vibrations caused by the rubbing of the handles, the water surface begins to ripple around the rim. Soon water drops shoot up, quickly becoming continuous streams, like tiny fountain jets. The water droplets and jets grow and diminish with each rub of the handle. It is believed to generate the precise frequencies needed to produce standing waves - the spouts of water rise from these waves. Comes with a Teacher's Guide.

You guys nailed the "gripping and letting go" of the bowl handle against Dan's smooth hand motion. This is the essence of how a bowed string instrument works
I wasn't referring directly to the water, but actually it is arguable. Water is a necessary nutrient that must be consumed to live. Food is not defined by being a solid that has been cooked.
This video started out looking like it was going to be silly and then quickly became one of the best slow mo videos on this channel. Perhaps even the best.
adashingrainbow Oh yeah, no doubt it looks awesome but imagine seeing the dye swirling around, or even if they put a few drops of different colours and seeing how it all mixes up!!
Love this one. I am always trying to take photos of light on water so this was perfection for me. I think I may have to watch it several times. Thanks guys.
The lines you see are called standing waves, its when two reflected waveforms combine to cause a stationary wave where certain frequencies are stronger than others
Dan's hands are rubbing against those two handles, and the friction between his hands and the handles causes the bowl to vibrate, and the bowl vibrating moves the water inside the bowl. Its very similar to how a violin works between the bow and strings
The science is that the friction between the handles and his hands create a natural frequency or a sound wave. Little physics lesson: every object has a natural resonance frequency. This frequency can literally shake the atoms in an object. Who ever created this bowl knew the metals exact natural resonance frequency and gave the user the ability to imitate it. If you don't believe me look it up. One time a bridge completely collapsed bc the wind just so happened to be blowing at its exact resonance frequency. It's on youtube. Also, governments have experimented and applied this to weapons bc even humans have this NRF and can literally make you explode where you are standing.
If you want to see 2 amazing things with the Chinese spouting Bowl, visit my channel !! Videos that you would not find anywhere on the net, that we are the only ones in the world to have filmed !!!
What a delight watching this video, I used too, and still do, run into a local family shop, where the owner would play and eventually teach me. I have always wanted to see this in slow motion after becoming amazed by the visual patterns created from such a smooth touch. Thank you again! keep up the editting too, great work.
I'm almost positive that there are hundreds of videos of frogs eating in slo mo by National Geographic and things like that. :D Though it would be funny to see Dan trying to catch a frog and get it to eat.

I mean I ASSUME you are joking but from your phrasing it doesn't really look like a joke? I'm confused. Either way that would be an awful video, and a complete waste or several hundred thousand frames per second camera xD
well. many monitors refresh at upwards of 60 to 120 frames per second. but I think I know what you're getting at with the fact that you want to see if the entire screen refreshes all at once, or if it refreshes each frame in a particular pattern with all of the pixels.
Gavin is a MASTER a getting the right exposure in his shots. Beautiful!
CiderDivider well he's filmmaking for a long time
Gavin EXPOSED #dramaalertnation
Bradley Irving stop , reevaluate your life choices
CiderDivider to be expected, he's worked on tons of big budget movies, many movies with slow mo in them he was the one doing it with his trusty camera
Well you're not going to see the crappy exposures he does until he gets it right. Did you really expect to see bad exposures on his final cut of the video?
Dan's new pickup line, "Wanna come over to my place and rub my bowl?"
Bradley Jarman and they literally just go over to rub the bowl
Bradley Jarman ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Bradley Jarman you won't bowlieve how big it is.
Redding Brannan God dammit barb
The person who responds to that. "You have a bull? Are you a farmer?"
honestly gav look like the main character on cloudy with a chance of meat balls
theonlyplace to stare at omg yes, I just realized that!
After all these video's I only notice because of you? Thanks mate!

rayr Never knew Han Solo was a Chinese emporer
I don't have school in 4 days
The han dynasty fell in recent years but will be remembered for being a great pilot of the Millennium Falcon alongside Chewbacca

The light catching the water is gorgeous!!
Sometimes this channel is funny. Sometimes it's epic. And sometimes, like in this one, it's just damn beautiful.
Put oobleck in that thing
Great idea Edit: hope they read your comment
Sounds pretty cool
Sounds either amazing, or terrible.
Henry Hungaski yes!

It's on supports you imbeciles it's just that the supports aren't visible
You guys nailed the "gripping and letting go" of the bowl handle against Dan's smooth hand motion. This is the essence of how a bowed string instrument works
You should upload all the footage you have of the water droplets jumping around in slow motion. I kinda wanna watch it until I fall asleep
Dwight Schrute that's a good idea. if they did, they would cut it to where it happens, and use the actual capture. another future one perhaps...? :)
they have a 10-hour version of one of their videos, which was only a second of real time i think. they could make this one into an hour i bet.
Dwight Schrute like Gavin said, he should make it a screen saver. I'd download that :3
This is inappropriate.
Toby Flenderson how?
This bowl takes playing with your food to a whole other level.
Water isn't food.
I wasn't referring directly to the water, but actually it is arguable. Water is a necessary nutrient that must be consumed to live. Food is not defined by being a solid that has been cooked.
Imagine putting tomato soup in there...
+Bradley Irving and licking it while in the air.
Sean Zhu then what would your face look like
This video started out looking like it was going to be silly and then quickly became one of the best slow mo videos on this channel. Perhaps even the best.
The slow mo guys, the only channel that can make a good video with nothing but a bowl with water👏🏼
-Builder - and a fuck off expensive camera🙃
You should do this again but add some food colouring in there! I'm kinda surprised that you didn't!!
Geforcelivingit I don't know, I kinda loved the clear water. The sunlight made it all look like crystals.
adashingrainbow Oh yeah, no doubt it looks awesome but imagine seeing the dye swirling around, or even if they put a few drops of different colours and seeing how it all mixes up!!
Geforcelivingit whynotboth.gif :)
The food coloring would look interesting. Also would putting cornstarch in it make some nice shots?
It might ruin the bowl.
"Intergalactic, planetary" i love gav so much now
Ahhh the house was floating in the start!
No seriously, WHAT is up with that house and its Shadow.
@@crimsonstrykr that table shadow make like house float yes
Jaan Ruus no the house just doesn’t have supports in that section u can see it in other angles
Gab: 'Hello there, sweet internet, I'm Gav..'
Dan ' I'm done.'

The lines you see are called standing waves, its when two reflected waveforms combine to cause a stationary wave where certain frequencies are stronger than others
Is it just me or does the shadow by the house make the house look like it's levitating?
Exkaliber shit i just noticed
that's cuz it is (at least at that part), you can see it from different angles on some other videos, i think they have raised foundations
Exkaliber yeah mostly at 0:44......
OMG I CANT UNSEE IT NOW
Thank you
"intergalatic planetary"
.... gav did you really just make a beasty boys reference? rofl
This is actually really cool. It's so mesmerizing.

Good job.
This has been one of my favorite videos! Oddly relaxing. Thanks guys!
science side of youtube please explain this bowl to me, a nincompoop
Dan's hands are rubbing against those two handles, and the friction between his hands and the handles causes the bowl to vibrate, and the bowl vibrating moves the water inside the bowl. Its very similar to how a violin works between the bow and strings
Dan's rubbing creates a sound that terrifies the water causing it to jump out of the bowl.
It basically creates a speaker effect with the vibrations.
You ever rub the rim of a glass to make noise? Same thing but bigger.
Also, governments have experimented and applied this to weapons bc even humans have this NRF and can literally make you explode where you are standing.
can we get a 10 hour loop of this haha extremely relaxing
5:07 Did anyone else notice at the end when Gav threw the solo cups at Dan, there Twitter handles at the bottom of the screen got knocked sideway?
This video gives me inner peace, why!?
Nasser Feed it's like watching people eat McDonald making me feel fat.

What's the slow motion music ? I could listen to it a whole day
Peost Darude sandstorm
Barnaby Jordan old.
It's Beethoven's 69th Symphony.
It is something they showed in a FAQ video. They slowed down a men choir which is from a soundboard on an apple mac
Aidan Shea There isn't a 69th symphony.
Slow Mo y'all should film a frog in slow mo when it eats or a gator
Life's Wild Adventures can u make a non animal related comment? I've seen u so many places 😂

coloured liquids? ;o put dyes in the corner? ;o
might be too dense to vibrate

No powder paint?
lol
TheBirdNerd like the paint try the video with the speaker cone
Mid video I was going to google the science behind it. Then I saw the slow-mo shots. That showed me all I needed to know.
Do pricking your finger in slow motion
Next video: Haemorrhage in slow motion
William Parker hahahahaha
William Parker Gav did that already
William Parker Cumming in slow motion.

Can you do this w/ neon added to the water & a black light in the dark? 🙂

perhaps a drop of fluorescein? that would be so baller
After the Fire Wool spinning and Color Drill, this is Slo Mo Guys' most beautiful video
I'm cursed with watching UA-cam videos that have puns.
The moment Gav started singing Intergalactic by the Beastie Boys was the moment I feel my life completed.
It caused me to die a little inside, planetary? whut?!
@@suicidalbanananana why?
Okay, definitely the best footage you guys have ever captured. Watching those globules combining in midair is one of the coolest things I've seen.
Can you do a slow-motion video of standing between two mirrors and watching your figure delay as you move and look through the infinite corridor?
The slow mo guys, the only place the thumbnail looks unreal but it actually happens in the video 😀
Very possibly the most beautifully hypnotic thing I've seen for a very long time. Nice one, gents!
I need one of those for when my sister is talking on the phone :D
The Slow Mo Guys ❤
Gav and Dan!

Brilliant angles especially the bits when the water is above the bowl in slow motion.

Where can I buy one?!
Pamiath You can get for free from my grandmother's kitchen
Pamiath I can buy you one for 50 USD😃
Pamiath china, they have everything, I even bought a panda ._.

Love how the title card at the end falls when Gav throws the bowl at Dan
Gav with the Beastie Boys reference.
Try this again with oobleck!
Beautiful!
I've always wanted on of those!
And, just like Dan, it looks better in slow motion!
Can.... can i rub your bowl?
Of course you are welcome to do that. Just lube up your palms with water. And gently put them on the incredibly big big handle. There you go.
Should try it with liquid metals, non-plutonium liquids and liquids of different viscosity!!!
Do you mean non-Newtonian liquids lmao
Cameron Cowfer try putting honey or syrup in there!
Considering that Dan called it a Sprouting bowl, I think he's on par. lol
I mean you would probably not want to try it with plutonium in the liquid phase.
its so much fun seeing those water drops flying in the sun in good quality
What happens if you put electricity through the metal
nice waves
I have never heard of a spouting bowl before, that is freaking nuts, let alone in slow motion!
Looks like Gavin's shirt says gay
Beautiful - and that's just Dan. Thanks for invoking my Alexa. "I'm not sure how to help you with that," she said.
I think this has to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen in 4K...
