I loved running across this video of my town. I have lived here my entire 68 years. Our downtown looks so much better now that they are fixing the old buildings and making apartments out of some. Lower 4th was avoided in my youth but it is safe and a great place now. Too bad you couldn't have gone into the court house and the theater, they are both amazing.
Hi Julia, Thank you so much for these kind words. I'm so glad you enjoyed it and I really enjoy hearing from locals. If I make it back, I'll try to remember to go into the courthouse and theater if I can. Thanks again, and all the best. -H
It's very important to update our downtowns because that's what many people remember about a city. SC looks pretty nice and I hope they continue fixing up older structures and getting a constructive use out of them.
Thank you for this video. I grew up in Sioux City but have been gone for 38 years. Was nice seeing old landmarks and that they are taking care of the old buildings. I bought my first Schwinn bike at Albrechts bike shop when I was 18. I am 63 now and still have the bike.
Hi Betty, I'm so glad this brought back good memories and that's incredible you still have that bike! I hope you still ride it sometimes. Thanks so much for taking the time to share you memories. All the best and keep on steppin' -H
Ha! Did I hear Montana? Small world! My wife and I are in Billings, but looking to relocate to the Midwest. My wife is from Iowa, so that's most likely where we'll end up. Thanks for the video! 😊
I was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa... I make it back there every great now and then but never really have taken the time to absorb it all. Sioux City looks like it has changed quite a bit. I got a chuckle when you were observing Frances Canteen.... You probably wasn't too aware what you were looking at but Frances Canteen was an adult bookstore! 😃 The murals on the side of the building should have given you a little clue with the cats and the women, the plaque etc LOL😃 Mercy Medical Hospital is a great hospital. I was born in St.Lukes hospital but I believe they changed the name. The skywalks have been there for a long time. They go way back to the 1970's and I remember playing around in them for when I was little... I remember going to the Orpheum Theatre to watch Disney's Jungle Book when I was ten years old... Lower 4th Street is looking pretty good nowadays. Back when I was growing up it wasn't one of the best places to be hanging around for child and all I can say why is because it had something to do with Frances Canteen, alcohol and bar scenes and somewhat of a trouble spot. My family rarely went downtown but if we did, it was only during daylight hours and never being anywhere lower 4th Street. It wasn't referred to as Historic 4th Street back then as far I knew. It was called lower 4th. But, times change and people change and it's great to revitalize "lower 4th" and keep those buildings and the area cleaned up and looking good. Something to be very proud of. There used to be a round plaque somewhere down there in that area for a fella that got shot and killed because of alcohol. Something like that, but they removed it and relocated it to a museum, possibly the new museum that you walked by with the bull in front of it. The original Sioux City Museum used to be in a castle looking house. I don't know what ever became of that house though. It might still be there. Back when I was growing up Sioux City was known as a farming type of city because the stockyards was once there and Sioux City was known for hogs, cattle, SLAUGHTERING plants and..... Odor! But it was a great place to grow up and I couldn't of asked for a more better place to call home. Back then people were decent, nice and respectful. I don't know how it is now but it seems what you experienced is typical of this day and time. There's always some negative person in the crowd anywhere you go....ALWAYS! But, I just wanted to take the time and say thank you for the video. It brings back ALOT of memories. I might go back someday but it would be bittersweet because some life long friends and family are no longer around....... It was good to see how much quieter Sioux City is compared to ALOT of places I've been to and seen since leaving Sioux City over 35 years ago..... Keep doing what your doing my friend, keep talking, you have a great voice and level headedness about you and the way you present yourself and your videos. It's great seeing someone that really appreciates cities that have no personal connections to them. Take care of yourself my friend... Best regards!
Thanks. And yeah, I'm more of a walker when exploring. I think it was Bill Bryson who said just walking around is the best way to see a place. I really agree. -H
Hello there, just wanted to pop by and say how much we've enjoyed our growing connection with you this year and how you've inspired us to finally find a voice. So thanks Henry we wish you a happy and healthy Christmas time our youtube friend.
Badgerow Bldg 25:41 is one of the coolest buildings in Sioux City but this one impressed me the most 13:50. Seems like an Egyptian, Greek style architecture of some sort. ❤️
Yeah, it really does. At the time, I was thinking more art deco but through the lens, it looks egyptian, especially with the bass relief bit over the door. Thanks! -H
Another great video. Happy Christmas Henry to you and your family. Thanks so much for enabling us to travel 'virtually' in these times. Your videos have made this trying year brighter!
Theatre district in London is called The West End. I’ve seen shows on Broadway and am a Stagehand in real life. Hope to see a show on The West End sometime. I’ve also seen Opera at the Sidney Opera House, La Scala in Milan, Berlin State Opera, and the Metropolitan in NYC.
@@CityWalks You are always welcome. Although it's sad that you guys can't enter Japan, hopefully things will get better next year and make it here! Lots of delicious food here to eat😂
Excellent video! On our channel we also post videos that can be used as a virtual run. That can be used to run on a treadmill or to get to know the cities of Brazil 😊😊
