Looks good - the cherry loses less flesh and is more presentable. I'll give it a go 👍

Yes! Good idea that works very well! We threw away those old sheet metal utensils a while back but managed to find one old stamped fork - that is now honored to be a working cherry pitter!

I made this last year after watching this video and I had 22 lbs of cherries. This was awesome!!! Cherries stay intact and worked great for pie, canning in sugar liquid, and for freezing. Best tool ever!!!!

This is amazing and just saved me big time- none of the stores around me carry cherry pitters and I just got back from a U-pick farm with several pounds ready for preserving :D
    Thanks so much!

Will definitely try this.Thinking of freezing loads of cherries to save for the cooler months.
Some of the cherry pitter's have bad reviews.

what a brilliant idea, I used a fillet knife, and I got a cut on my finger....this is the best tool to use for pitting than paper clip and drinking straw, etc.. thanks.

You can use a large paper clip for pie cherries. Bend straight and use the smaller end to pull out the pits.

Worked great, thanks for posting this. I didn't feel the need to go out and search for a cherry pitter knowing that I wouldn't use it too often, but who would have thought, I have lots of forks to spare and happen to have needle-nose plyers as well and got it on the first try.

Really awesome! Someone sent me a link to this video because I just posted on our site about how I wouldn't travel with something as specific as a cherry pitter... that it was a creature comfort we could do without while on the road. Now I know what to do in a jam.
    Awesome!

Your right this worked great. It also worked great as a strawberry husker. I just put it in under the green area and spun it around and the husk came out clean and left me with a strawberry I could stuff with a nice filling.

This worked great! My friend gave me some cherries since I'm dehydrating some other fruit, and I went to UA-cam to find an easy way to pit them. Since I'm drying them, I pulled off the stems and went through that side.

When I was a kid, we'd have to go pick cherries (tons and tons) and then we'd all sit around the sink with the plunger cherry pitters. Put me off picking and pitting cherries. This year I'm going to pick and pit cherries. Gonna try this method and the paperclip method and see which works best. I like that either one takes up less space than a pitter and costs less.

Thank you SO MUCH. I picked almost 40#'s of cherries and couldn't find a pitter in the stores I went to! One thing I noticed though that the tines on the fork I used actually broke! I was worried that the little hooks you made on the inside tines wouldn't hold, but they seem to be working just fine! :D :D :D

Why bent the tines separately? If you just turned the needle nose pliers sideways and lineup the tines near the flat side of the pliers evenly. You can bent them both at the same time evenly.

Sorry gents but we just did a side by side evaluation between your tool and the paperclip method and I have to say that the paperclip won by a technicality. I had a 14 year old and a 22 year old alternate between the two methods. I also tried both. I consider myself unbiased as I've just used a knife. Both tools were equally fast but the paper clip pulled out less of the cherry and created less juice. You also don't loose a fork. Both methods were twice as fast as a knife.
