I just found out he passed away and I’m so heartbroken. That man was one of the first crushes I ever had. Funny enough my current boyfriend favors him a lot ha in both looks and personality.
When I was a teenager, my friend and I took the train to Toronto, spent our babysitting money at the Eaton Centre, and saw Hair at the mall cinema, during its first run. One of the most powerful movies I’ve ever seen and one of the best days of my life.
OMG, so sad... just reading this now. Was in NYC last week for first time and sang all the songs in my head in the locations that were used in this film. Central Park will always remind me of HAIR! RIP
This works because of the outstanding choreography and Treat Williams enormous strength. John Savage may not be the tallest actor, but he's built. Moving him around like that took skill and strength. (Yes, dears, I'm aware they're all in their seventies today. This was then.)
I wondered if it would hold up on Blu-ray and ran thru a powerful sound system. Omg, idk what I was worried about. It was like seeing it again for the first time.
@@edc4517 I've read this, too. But IMO the movie version is better than what the original writers did. The stage play had barely any storyline to it and was more like a concert of the songs, with only minimal dialog joining them together. This would not make for a good movie. Milos Foreman put a lot more attention and depth into telling a story, and that makes a lot of the songs more meaningful. The ending with Berger's sad demise is much more emotional than the original ending.
Today I have been listening to this clip and the clip at the end when the song is sung again as I holiday in Manchester England, England. Such a powerful musical!
I just saw this movie for the first time tonight and the end made me sob hearing that the actor who played Berger passed away recently just makes it sadder

Yup. He's 'Hud' in Hair. He's known for his ability to do multiple personalities and voices in rapid succession on the stage. I got to see him in an off-off-off-way-off Broadway production a million years ago and he was already great (and hot).

Well, in the original musical he tells them he’s from Manchester and sings this song. But here they just use it to mean he’s from far away. Like, he’s fresh from Oklahoma about to join the military, he might as well be from another world.
