  • In this video I create a painting inspired by how places feel, through a word exploring our relationships with the coast. The word (alongside a whole bank of others!) was contributed by my youtube audience - thank you for your inspiration! I’m looking forward to seeing how your words translate to paintings as this collection develops.

What I LOVE about non-realism work is that you don’t know where it’s going till it has gone there. And wow. Look how gorgeously you’ve interpreted ‘mystery’ 😍 Can’t wait to see what’s next.

Thank you for taking the time to share your process. I don’t try to get into a flow state because for me, it is like stepping into a naturally flowing stream - once I step in - start (and that can mean many things such as jotting down ideas, experimenting with colours or making collage papers, or even visiting a museum ) I tend to float along with it. I feel blockages are a but like large boulders that sticks and leaves get caught against forming a large pool which eventually overflows the debri. For me this manifests as being on one part or activity for what feels like too long but I end up either just sticking with it and building, or, like a river, overflowing the banks and finding my way back to the main stream through a different means. I’m lucky that I make art as a hobby so there is never any pressure or deadline. ,

thanks so much for sharing, this is so interesting! You're so right; it's like the more you think about it, the harder it is to access. Best be guided by the process and let it take you there :) You also bring up a really good point of working through obstacles - I feel like I'm always trying to find the best route; sometimes that's through and over, and other times, it's taking a new path or a break. I suppose each painting & challenge requires it's own way :) Thank you so much for sharing 💙

What size paper do you use and what is the brand. It holds up very well to the layers and wetness. Also what are the dimensions that you tape off your paper with? They look very nice when you remove the tape. I love to watch you paint. You are very free and expressive.

I found you down the UA-cam rabbit warren which was a blessing. You have a very interesting process. My immediate thought on your prompt was 'sea mist-ery' and you mentioned the word mist several times. I wonder if it occurred to you?
What is the translucent glaze that you use please?

Hello :) I love a good pun, I can't believe I missed that one!! If I explore the word again I'll have a think about that - maybe it was a subconscious influence :) The glaze is simply lots & lots of water in my acrylic paint colour mix
