      Its stock suspension is considered too soft by Chinese users, especially against side swings (e.g. when exactly one wheel runs over a pothole). But there is a suspension modification offered in China (~400 USD equivalent). I don't know whether the models coming to Australia come with the upgraded suspension.

    Excellent review. Yesterday in Cork I took this car for a test drive. The impressions were positive. Convenient comfortable fit. The suspension does not break down on speed bumps. It lacks power. It is very quiet in the car. I noticed that the hood of the car in the front in the area of the headlights protrudes on the sides by 5 millimeters. I have not noticed this on other cars. The smooth and even transition of the lines is lost. This should not be. I think that the manufacturer installed a hood from other models. I have a desire to buy this car.

    Very good review! With rented Hybrid Camry and RAV4 Hybrids here in Australia I reckon on a country drive they do about 6l/100km. But with the Toyotas the ICE engine cuts in at a very low speed. So you only really get the electric experience in low speed, heavy traffic.

    • @toyotaprius79
      @toyotaprius79 7 місяців тому +4

      Toyota's hybrids are unfortunate predominantly ICE without any plugin capacity.
      Toyota's hybrids perform best in minimal stop starts when there's enough distance between stops to glide in EV and regen before a red light.
      But in the real world in traffic, that small 1kWh-2kWh hybrid batteries that use only 40-80% of capacity would barely last us 5 minutes crawling.

    Test driven one myself, my impressions:
    1. Overall good quality & chassis refinement: engine, gearbox and suspension have synergy with each other unlike another Chinese SUV: MG HS hybrid, which feels weird and choppy.
    2. Like any hybrid, quite punchy and fast.
    3. Nice suspension (soft, but not sofa-plush like e.g. in RAV4), comparable to Qashqai.
    4. Overall nice interior and seats, both on the front and on the rear. Plenty of space on the rear bench, and seat are long enough.
    5. I don't like steering. It's feather-like light, literally empty. There's no connection with the wheels whatsoever. No one can say Qashqai steering is great, but it is much better than in BYD. I also don't like cut/sporty shape of the steering wheel. It's probably the main thing that puts me off, second one is the boot.
    6. Side mirrors could've been larger
    7. My wife complained about lack of height adjustment for the passenger seat.
    8. For such a big car, the boot is tiny. It says ~400L like Qashqai's. Qashqai's one is bigger, and also has nice dividers and adjustable floor.
    9. 360 cameras are nice to have, but they get dirty fairly easily making them useless, including the rear view camera
    Compared to Qashqai ePower:
    1. Qashqai hybrid feels different because it doesn't have massive battery to carry. It feels lighter (and BYD feels much heavier).
    2. I like Qashqai interior more. While BYD interior is nice, the screen is too big for my liking - it's kind of screen, it distracts from the road. Although half of important controls is hidden there like in many EVs which is just annoying.
    Overall, nice car that needs some minor ergonomics improvements but defo great bang for buck and next level quality compared to MG HS (although I haven't driven new gen that came out in 2024).

    • @namingshard17

      it's possible for hybrid, BYD's DM-i tends to keep engine running in the most consumption efficient speed, the car mostly uses electric motor, the engine is for generating electricity and it only kicks in when you need extra power or when battery is empty.

    • @CompletecarIe
      @CompletecarIe  7 місяців тому +3

      Suspect it’ll be getting above 6 litres, maybe even 7 on a journey like that. Depends on speed and driving style too. Will put it to the test when it arrives in Ireland.

    • @dann5515

      If you want the result for 100KM that will be 1.2L/100KM. You will only see more than 5L/100KM if you exceeded over 1100KM in one full charge battery. This is a PHEV meaning you can plug in and charge your car's battery. And enable you to use pure EV mode up to 80-100KM depending on your driving behaviour. Base on this model they claimed one full charge and full tank can drive over 1000KM. So question is.. how often do regular people drive more than 100KM per day? Most regular people dont drive over 100KM per day so than mean you can just drive pure EV mode everyday and your fuel tank still remains full unless you forgot to charge your vehicle overnight.

    • @06younger

    Is this car really reliable? Asks someone who is looking for a new car that wants to keep for at least 15 years. I like it a lot but I'm afraid to buy it! I also drove the Corolla Cross but its nothing like this one, which is on a different level in all aspects! However, Toyota is ! My father teld me that back in the day when Japanese cars first came in Europe everyone made fun of them and feared them until they managed to dominate the global market mainly due to reliability that the cars have. Does the same apply to the Chinese? After all, their mobile phones are very reliable :)

    What we all wanted.....another generic "SUV" (i.e. Stupid Upright Vehicle)🙄. These Chinese cars are the Ladas of the 21st century. For those not old enough to remember, Ladas were introduced to Ireland in the 80's as a cheaper form of motoring but soon disappeared from view when the poor build quality and lack of parts soon became apparent. These Chinese cars will follow Lada into the unlamented memory of motorists.

The EV fanboys (and what I’m starting to believe are paid “positive” commentators on YT extolling their “virtues”) can go on about how “great” these Chinese cars are but the facts are sales of Chinese cars are abysmal. While I have to drive a lot for my job, in the past month I’ve only seen 2 MG’s and 1 BYD. The neighbour who bought an MG has gone back to ICE. Look, unlike China, this is a free country and you can buy what you like. But as the ones who bought Ladas in the 80’s found, you won’t be able to give Chinese cars away in the future. Just look at all the MGs, BYDs etc piling up unsold at European ports.
