    Maybe comment there is no oil filter. I'm new to this generator but you've done the best quick oil change on a onan 4000 I've seen. Thanks brotha

    There is a foam ring around the back end of the air filter. Due to age and heat, etc. the old foam ring often sticks to the engine when you pull the old air filter out. So be sure to reach in and make sure that there isn't foam from the old air filter stuck in there before you put the new air filter in. Great video. Thank you.

    Loosen the oil check cap to make the oil drain faster

    Please don’t use pipe compound on the drain plug. You don’t want this to contaminate your engine.

      @@sfe ok cause I ordered the kit on amazon and it comes with spark plug, two pints of oil an air filter and fuel filter. I guess I should read the manual lol. How often do I change the spark plug? On my riding lawn mower I don't change it every year.

    • @sfe
      @sfe  3 роки тому +2

      I’m not sure what the recommendations are for when to do the plug. This was my first oil change on it. I might do it next time. My Snowmibles and other Motorsports I do at least once a year. So I might start doing the plug on the generator once a year also.

    • @sfe

      3 things you always check when trouble shooting an engine. Air, Fuel and spark. Those are the 3 things an engine needs to work. Check those 3 things are getting to the engine.

    It helps drain oil faster and more complete if you loosen the oil filler cap so there is no vacuum. Also, doesn’t the manual say to run a straight weight oil unless cold weather camping? I do straight 30 synthetic in my key model as I’m summer only.

    • @sfe
      @sfe  Рік тому

      I believe I mentioned that about the weight of the oil depends on the temperature of the area you live in. Yes oil cap off and running the generator before hand to heat up the oil all helps it drain faster.

  • @shawndepasquale3195

      cant find 10w-40 here in So. Cal thats Synthetic except for motorcycle oil but its same oil and its just fine to use like the video poster stated this is a 4 stroke engine on the Onan.

    I dunno man... I don't think Onan recommends full synthetic oil...their own branded oil is 15w40 is it not? The best oil I've ever used in these generators is Shell Rotella T4 in the 15w40 flavor

    • @sfe
      @sfe  Рік тому

      Oil weight is based on your locations high/low temperatures. If you watch my other video I actually run Onan’s oil and it’s basically the same oil.

    • @badactor3440

      Synthetic oil won't hurt, but it won't help either.
      It is unnecessary to spend more on Synthetic, for this generator

    What do you mean oil for where you live? I don't know where you live.
    I live 30 mins from Death Valley (for real)
    What oil would you use here in the summer months?

    • @sfe
      @sfe  3 роки тому

      Oil weight is determined by both engine recommended and temperature range of where you live.

    • @dougm.635
      @dougm.635 3 роки тому +1

      10w -30 synthetic would be fine in the hot heat of your area in CA

    • @thediplomasta5891
      @thediplomasta5891 2 роки тому

      The hotter it is, the thinner the oil gets when hot. 20w-50 is thicker than 10w-30. If the engine is older, and it's as hot as death valley, then I would use 20w-50. Most new engines use 5w-30. If you lived in Antarctica, I would say, use 0w-30.

      @@thediplomasta5891 Thanks. I bought a new RV. It has the Onan 4000 OG.
      It has @80 hours on it. I did the first oil change at 25 hours and found some SAE 30.
      I'm getting ready for a trip. Halloween at Dumont Dunes (basically Death Valley) I expect highs in the mid 90's and lows in the 70's. 20 W 50?

    • @thediplomasta5891
      @thediplomasta5891 2 роки тому
