Everything the couple says is correct. Of course I cringed when, while being in the place with the best food in the world they said they still buy Marmite and Baked Beans, but I suppose you can't teach an old dog new tricks. On everything else, they seem to have got it. I am a Greek who had to leave the country because in the years of crisis (around 2012) there were absolutely no jobs for programmers there, and I came to England. And now I am watching this and feeling so envious of them being there and me being here. Life can be very strange. But having lived in both UK and Greece, the differences are very clear and things in both countries can be appreciated more.
Work towards saving money and maybe move back to Greece? It’s such a fantastic country. I understand when people bring their home country comforts when they migrate abroad. I think it’s a great thing! Everyone does it. Greeks bring with them honey, oil, sweets abroad and if a Brit wants to bring marmite, bring it on! Maybe they can sell some to the locals for some variety. I love how we can share our own foods & cultures. Makes societies richer with fulfillment.
Mate, as a Greek myself, I love Marmite 😋, but the 250gr jars is difficult to find and costs 12 or even 14 Euros. I'm lucky that a decades-old deli shop in my hometown brings a lot of British goodies. Bovril however is even rarer and only one shop in Athens specialized in British products has it.
I lived in Porto Heli in the 80s.Back then Porto Heli was a very quiet small little port. Beautiful place very beautiful people 😍 I hope to return one day ❤
Good video, interesting stories from your guests, I'm really interested in the cost of living in Greece, when I eventually take my retirement (hopefully 3 to 5 years) I'd like to keep my property in the UK, use my lump sum to either buy or invest for rent, what really interests me more than anything, is a realistic cost of living per month, to actually live a life with treats and days out, not just getting by, if you could go some way into that in your next video, that would be great.
British people are very welcome to come and retire or work or invest. What i would suggest, is that they have to make an effort to learn the language, participate in the Greek Ortodox Celebrations which are brilliant. When a greek sees that you are making an effort to blend in, if you make an effort to be a part of the cultural and spiritual events of the community, you are automatically considered one of their own. In their minds you are as greek as they are because being greek is not about genes, it's all about culture, orthodoxy and community. Lovely video !!! Wish you all the best !!! ❤❤❤

I would be interested in connecting with people who have / are living in Greece on a part time basis, possibly transitioning to a more permanent, full time life there. I’m 51 years old, self employed, practically skilled and wanting to start a life outside of rainy U.K., rapidly breaking U.K., exponentially population exploding U.K. Please, if you are reading this and know of anyone living part time in Greece and/or transitioning like I’m keen to do, then I’d be most grateful if you could reply. Thank you 🙏.
Why do Brits call themselves “Expats” when they migrate to another country but they call people migrating to the UK “Migrants”? I seriously don’t get it?
Its historical. Expat is short for expatriated which means you were forced to live overseas by the government, such as being deported for being a criminal, or stationed abroad for work, such as by the army or the east india trading company. It shows having lack of choice in your location. It used to be somewhat derogatory but was then adopted particularly by brits in India. And its spread and stuck. So historically it was deemed as a lower status than immigrant as immigrants were presumed to have a choice. Now it smacks of colonialism and people think expats as snooty. Unfortunately immigrant or migrant has developed negative connotations which is why people tend not to associate themselves with it. Migrant communities in the UK and USA usually refer to themselves as the diaspora so it works both ways.
Why Brits when live in Greece don't learn the language and mostly hang out only with other Brits? When in France they learn French. Why don't they do the same in Greece? They like the sun and the food but they don't respect the people? What else can I think of? This on;y happens with Brits and Americans and in a bit lesser degree with Germans. All other Europeans in Greece, French, Italians, Spanish, eastern Europeans, they all learn Greek!

What about taxes: property and income, including global if any?
Actually it does snow on Crete in the mountains.
Curious to know if you rely on the public health system or the private and how accessible it is.

Its not possible to be expats , you originated from Great Britain, not Greece. rest of video is spot on.
All dogs and cats in Greece must now be registered and chipped or you pay a fine.
You need to do more on younger folks and what they do for money there. As they don’t have good jobs available
Most of them rely heavily on their parents financially. Not much else to say about that.
