Hindi ko to sinasabi dahil bias ako. Pero as a gay person, this is so much of an inspiration for us lgbt. Nanonood ako sa tv kahapon at hindi ko maiwasan mapaluha sa performance nato. Sobrang heart felt ng theme. Sobrang binigyan nila ng justice ang mga katulad ko. Up talaga did their best. Sobrang naiiyak parin ako pag pinapanood ko to at diko maiwasan paulit-ulitin. In fairness to NU, they won it fair and square, technically speaking. But UP was more entertaining... Too bad that technicality bears more weight than the theme/advocacy. I am not from UP but I am proud of them... Women lifting men? That's women empowerment. Equality for all.

Who here still thinks that "Who Run The World" sequence is still UP Pep Squad's best dance to-date? It really hit everything that the criteria was looking for: Transition, Formation, Difficulty, Emotion, Musicality. Note: I'm writing this in 2016.
+terrific1290 Too bad nga eh. They fell short of their dance routine last 2013, so they tried to make up for it in this routine. As a result, their stunts and pyramids fell short. 2013 - high difficulty, less dance; 2014 - less difficulty, more dance. And yes, I agree this is their best dance performance.
+tobias Hmmm medyo disagree. 2013 - was high in everything. Yung dance lang nila sa umpisa ang kinulang, pero magaganda yung mga sumunod like the latin salsa sa gitna, and the breakdance sa dulo.

I personally believe that UAAP CDC isn't yet as objective as many hoped it would be. If you read forums, such as Pinoy Exchange, wherein there are discussions between people who knows technicalities of Cheerleading and Gymnastics, many believed that UP was underrated and NU was overrated, if we're going to look at the score difference. Sure, NU deserved the championship pero sobrang laki ng score difference.

NU's over-all performance last season was meh, compared to their last year. UP's was definitely a step-up from their last season. No point pondering on this since I heard that UP will be boycotting this year's CDC? Is it true?
this is a competition.. may mananalo, may matatalo.. i believe UP is happy because they able to convey what they want to express through their cheerdance. If their aim is to express their advocacy.. then, they nailed it! Didn't matter if they got the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd price. The fact that they informed us with their theme.. it a big THUMBS UP for UP.

Meron ba ako katulad ng nararamdaman dito? I am rooting for UP since 2010 and my favorite squad because of Madonna routine. Hindi ko pa nakikita ang galing ng NU noon. Nung nag boycott ang UP year 2016, nakita ko ang galing NU since wala yung dati kong favorite Na UP. Binalikan ko yung mga performance ng NU since 2013 to 2015 nakita ko na malayo talaga ang galing ng NU Sa mga kalaban. Maybe bias ako Sa UP kasi favorite ko sila noon. Pero malayo Na talaga ang iginaling ng NU it takes years bago ko narealize at dahil don nag switch Na ako ng favorite. NU Na siguro for life kung hindi mag sstep up yung other schools. Ang sunod kong nakikitaan next to NU is Adamson. Ang FEU hindi ko pa nakikitaan ng galing Sa cheer elements (Medyo Medyo Lang) they are more on Sa dance kaya pumapasok pa Sa podium.

I love the UP Pep Squad (though I'm from a different school, hehe). Every year, sila talaga ang inaabangan ko. Pero this year, siguro, though di ako expert pagdating sa judging ng ganito, pero para sa 'kin, para talaga sa NU ang panalo. Oo, mas madaming mali ang NU, kung tally sheet ang pagbabasehan, pero compensated naman siya sa dami ng stunts, sabay-sabay (or kung may punto mang hindi, di naman halata), at yung stunts nila, may wow factor talaga at sobrang mas daring. Siguro kasi masyadong powerhouse ang UP Pep Squad kaya madami pa din sa 'tin ang hirap tanggapin na twice na silang natatalo ng underdog na NU.

The part that bothers me the most actually, is not the fact that they got 2nd place, because honestly, I think UP Pep cared more about communicating their advocacy than winning (and they accomplished both, so, no complaints there) but the fact that their routine was so meaningful, so intricate that from beginning to end they were trying to send a message, and I don't think everyone understood that.

I'm not from UP nor from NU po pero bilang follower sa mga ganitong events gusto ko po rin sanang ma-eshare kung ano po pananaw ko sa resulta. I would say maganda ang NU kasi marami silang bagong stunts, fresh sa mata at staka parang wala din sila masyadong palpak pero para sa akin mas maganda ang UP kasi po sa simula pa lang kitang-kita mo na energy, kung gaano sila kasabay at higit sa lahat kung gaano kalinis ang kabuohan ng kanilang performance. Ang energy kasi ng UP, steady lang walang dull moments pero kumpara sa NU makikita at makikita mo ang mga dull moments nila tsaka hindi sila gaano kalinis. Winner should possess the total performance. PEACE po, personal opinion lang.
First. It was a close fight, but I think NU deserved it. Second. NU won because their stunts were obviously much harder to execute than of the other schools. Malinis din yung dance (sabay-sabay), halos perfect yung pyramids kahit mahirap gawin, maganda din yung transition, wala ding dead air. They were above all the other schools based on the criterias (tumbling, stunts, tosses, pyramids, dance) for judging. And, logically, the competition results are based on these criterias. Third. Wala naman sa criteria yung "message", or uniqueness. Kung yung criteria yung susundan, (I THINK) lamang talaga yung NU ng kunti sa UP. UP's routine was outstanding too; they obviously were above all the other schools except NU. But what matters most is the message UP brought to everyone. They were able to strike the hearts of many. They delivered a message that broke the norms of society. The UP pep squad had a mission that is more important than just winning. They performed to inspire; inspire everyone to break the shackles of racism. They sought a message to raise the ones below and bring down the ones above. We are all equal. And bringing home the hearts of the people is way more important than bringing home the bacon. Fourth. This is for the people who think that the UP Pep Squad were sore losers because they were not as excited or smiling when they were called for 1st runner up. As an athlete, I wish to tell you that there is nothing more painful than winning 2nd place. Mas gusto pa naming mga atleta na manalo ng 3rd kese, kungbaga, parang nakasabit kami sa podium. Pero pag 2nd, hindi, sobrang sakit ng 2nd kese kunti na lang nandun ka na sa taas. Kunti na lang champion ka na. Each and every team trains hard; shedding blood, tears and sweat. All the teams did their very best, but when you end up second, you break down. Kese kapos. Kapos ka ng kunti para umabot sa taas, especially if you were targeting the top. Kapos yung pinaghirapan mo. Binigay mo na ang lahat lahat pero second lang. Isipin mo kung third, binigay mo ang lahat lahat, buti nakapasok sa top 3. Pag champion, binigay mo ang lahat lahat, success. Athlete or not, you should admit defeat and that someone is better than you. Amazing. Super level up ang mga performances. I think the only edge that NU has over them is the difficult pyramids and tumbling passes but all in all, awesomeness.
This routine may not have won this year. But for me, in terms of DANCE, this is the best performance I have ever seen in the history of this competition! That I can confidently say! :) Congrats UP Pep Squad!

hands down to the theme as well as the advocacy they are trying to tell people but infainess to NU PEP SQUAD during this time, they won it fair, tbh in terms of difficulty level, NU nailed it better plus the execution, buwis buhay ang labanan. BUT AGAIN, UP never fails to show such amazing and inspiring performance and message through their concepts each year. Great job to the both team and to the other squad in UAAP.

This video was posted 5 years ago and I am still watching this Im proud of them even they didn't even came 1st but their performance was so touching that there are people out there that is scared to say they are LGBT because there are still people in the world that dosn't accept LGBT in our school every classrooms we have a flag of LGBT signing that we the students and the school has accepted LGBT+ because there is no right and wrong with gender what if God created man and woman only bakit ba ang LGBT ba hindi lalaki at babae rin??? It just show that no matter how good you are you always make mistakes I considered lgbt Q+ one of the community that deserve justification I am proud to say Im 14 and an LGBT Q+ advocate and supporter

Just because UP was obviously disappointed when they were announced for first runner up doesn't make them act unsportsmanlike. They were obviously disappointed because they had hoped to win. and they expected to regain the crown given the single point deduction. Doesn't the same critique also apply when NU was announced as second runner up in the group stunts category? I don't see anyone criticizing them as acting in an unsportsmanlike manner with their sorely disappointed faces in full view. Both UP (in the cheerdance) and NU (in the group stunts) were visibly disappointed, but they were hardly unsportsmanlike.

To people who are bashing NU and/or UP and keep comparing both, this will hopefully enlighten you. Note that I'm a fan of both teams but I think they're Apples and Oranges, meaning they're very different from each other. I believe the bigger picture here is politics. You probably have heard of the politics of ICU (International Cheer Union) vs. IFC (International Federation of Cheerleading). ICU - is a different cheer org which aims to promote cheerleading as a sport of it's own. NCC is an ICU-organization where NU and most PH squads are part of. ICU is more famous worldwide and have more member teams. IFC - is an organization under FIG (International Federation of Gymnastics) which aims to promote cheerleading as a sport/branch of gymnastics. In the Philippines, the organization of IFC is (CPF) Cheerleading Philippines Federation which has lesser teams, including UP Pep Squad. But internationally, they have a lot of quite popular cherleading events like this CWC and the CAIOC for Asian countries. ICU vs. IFC - They interpret cheerleading differently and have different sets of rules and criteria. - Both sanction each other that a team cannot compete in both competitions. You can only compete to competitions hosted by one of the two organizations. - This is most likely the reason why NU and UP make their routines very differently. UP routines are made in a way that it should have lesser rooms for errors because under IFC rules, execution is just as important as difficulty. Sometimes, executions may weigh heavier at some point than difficulty. For instance, a slight wobble or shaky bases will have deductions, throwing all your hardwork for difficulty. Whereas NU with their gymnastics prowess can raise the difficulty because ICU rules most likely doesn't give as much emphasis with execution. It's still part of the criteria but not as important as difficulty. Compare their 2013 to 2015 routines. UP has to marry both difficulty and execution (form and stability). One of their coaches said in an interview that during practice, if they can't execute it properly, they trim down the difficulty. Meaning whatever you see in competition, it's already the safest they can make, and they actually started experimented with more difficulty beforehand. Whereas NU is okay with a little bit of form breaks as long as no one falls and the difficulty is shown. Just see how trashy some of their pyramids were in 2013. Note that wasn't meant as a bash but it's true. Compare the Tumblings as well. NU can afford to make double twists, arabian layouts, standing full twists and land in a very unstable manner because they won't care much about those executional errors. Whereas UP takes form and stability very seriously that they just opt for safer tumbling runs as long as it's executed in good technique, good form and stable landing. This is because under FIG rules, even a single step out of balance is already a deduction. Another good point to raise are the stunts. UP makes only one-off difficult stunts, or one difficult stunt + an easy stunt, then quickly proceed to dismount. That way, there's little room for errors. NU on the other hand can afford more acrobatic moves. There are several difficult skills that they connect which results to higher difficulty scores. However, this results to some bases shaking or some girls wobbling. Although checking their NCC 2016 performance, they seemed to execute this very cleanly, most likely because their athleticism has improved over the years. So in short, UP settled for the safest stunts to refrain deductions whereas to NU sacrificed the difficulty of stunts just to get high scores and they just have to makeup with the deductions by good execution of the remaining part of the routine?
I really love what UP pepsquad did... hindi lang sila nakapagboost ng skills nila ngayon dahil masyado silang nagstick sa campaign nila which I really appreciate. 30% back to basics sila. Ang hirap nga naman gumawa ng intense na stunt na babae ang sasapo at lalaki ang sasapuhin. I am looking forward na sa susunod na UAAP, when they return to the original roles (male lifters and female flyers) ay magboost ulit sila ng skills, knowing na magpeprepare talaga sila this 2015 para sa Cheerleading World Championship sa November 2015. Every 2 years lang kasi yung international competition. Well, maganda din naman ang ginawa ng NU pepsquad. I think yung mga stunts nila ay originally from Dragons Cheerleading team of Shih Hsin University (Taiwan) , BU cheerleading Team of Bangkok University (Thailand), At Braves Cheerleading Team of University of Nihonbunri (Japan)... Pero Kudos parin dahil ang hirap talagang gayahin ng mga stunts na iyon. Ang bilis din nila maglevel up, napanood ko kasi yung performance ng NU sa NCC early this year at sobrang laki ng kanilang inimprove sa UAAP, within a span of months...,, I think people must not fight comparing UP at NU, magkaiba naman kasi sila ng specialties, but they are equally good. Sana nga NU pep naman ang ipanlaban ng Pilipinas sa International Cheer Union which is another international competition.... SEE???? sobrang ayos nga na dumadami na ang magagaling na cheerleading teams sa Pilipinas. Hindi na tayo mababash ng mga ibang nationalities na basic lang ang alam ng mga Filipino cheerleading teams. So iyon.... NU and UP are equally good in different aspects.

ang UP pep sadyang magaling at napakaganda ng routine nila. napnood ko din un sa NU, but not like this, i had goose bumps while watching UP's routine and i enjoyed it. maaring malinis nga ung sa NU pero parang wala lng. UP sadyang magaling, NU may budget lng kaya nanalo. sana next year ung mga kukunin nilang judges e ung marunong talaga.
Yung napunta ako dito dahil sa cdc 2019 kinompare ko tlaga performance nila nung 2014. Ibang iba talaga. Iba na din kasi galawan ng NU jusko mga halimaw.
I watched the UP and NU videos several times and here's what I think. I think both teams were in top form that day. Both teams prepared difficult routines that showed innovative moves. Both teams also executed their performances with much grace and finesse, making the stunts look very easy. Having said this, I do have to admit that on a TECHNICAL level, NU had the LESSER number of errors (based on what I could see on the video). I think the difficulty levels of the stunts seemed similar for both. However, I do feel that UP had a faster routine which for me made UP's performance SEEM a little more energetic and just a little more difficult than NU's. I assume the CDC is considered a sport and is thus judged primarily as one - as an act of PURELY physical prowess. If the judging of the CDC is purely as a sport, then I don't mind that NU won. As I mentioned, both teams were great but I concede that NU had the cleaner, more flawless routine. NU's near flawless routine shows how much preparation they put into this year's CDC and I do applaud them for it. However, it cannot be denied that UP Pep's routines, apart from being technically proficient, always go beyond being "just" a sport - there is always an "art" or "social" or "humanistic" element that is somehow consciously or unconsciously programmed into their work. And this year's routine just SCREAMED it, so to speak. This is the X-factor that UP Pep brings to the court that makes them stand out from everyone else ALL THE TIME, whether their routine is executed perfectly or not. Hence, if creativity and artistic expression were equal parts of the criteria, I have absolutely no doubt that UP would have won.
UP PEP SQUAD did an excellent job! They did more for the competition than the judges and organizers care to acknowledge. They turned it into an opportunity to express socially relevant issues. Perhaps, the organizers should promote socially relevant themes for every event even if its not part of the competition theme. They should donate to charity or for any worthy cause. This brings so much exposure to the sponsors, some of the profits should be used for non-commercial pursuits.
Totoo trend setter sila. Parang yung ibang teams ganyan din pinaggagagawa mga humihiga para magkorteng something hahaha parang si NU lang nagstart magdevelop ng stunts that time. Sila na ngayon ang trendsetter.
NU won but I think UP got more attention with their performance. I'm not from either school so I'm saying this as a normal observer's perspective. Mas maraming "gimik" ang performance nang #UniversityofthePhilippines kaya mas tumatak at nag-enjoy ang mga nanuod sa routine nila. Pero ang fault nila ay mistakes. 9 mistakes ang napansin ko, normal na manunuod lang ako. Papano pa kaya sa mga judges? Sa #NationalUniversity naman they were more focused on the synchronization part and perfecting there movements. Maybe that's the reason they won. Just saying. #NoBias
Ndi po to dance contest.. I'm from UP as well but NU nailed it! Their level of difficulty was intense their stunts are far better than us. We should judge them fair and square let's remove it in our head the word "LUTO" because NU prepared for it. Upians are intelligent people lets base it on the facts. NU outshined UP an the rest.

I think both teams did an amazing job (UP &NU).. technically NU displayed breath taking stunts (buwis buhay so to speak) and the floor works is more polished..mas defined yung lines..i was up on my toes clapping for them altho this is not my alma mater.. they've earned their place in this competition..however as for UP, their musicality is beyond compare.. best dancers so far and i do agree their theme has always been original.. genius esp the girls carrying the guys with such ease..ang galing! My jaw dropped. The equality message thug at my heartstring and yes i almost cried for this team when they did not win the title.. same thing, im not from UP.. both are winners..one took home the trophy and the other hearts of many..including mine.

Hindi ko to sinasabi dahil bias ako. Pero as a gay person, this is so much of an inspiration for us lgbt. Nanonood ako sa tv kahapon at hindi ko maiwasan mapaluha sa performance nato. Sobrang heart felt ng theme. Sobrang binigyan nila ng justice ang mga katulad ko. Up talaga did their best. Sobrang naiiyak parin ako pag pinapanood ko to at diko maiwasan paulit-ulitin. As a result, their stunts and pyramids fell short. 2013 - high difficulty, less dance; 2014 - less difficulty, more dance. And yes, I agree this is their best dance performance.
+tobias Hmmm medyo disagree. 2013 - was high in everything. Yung dance lang nila sa umpisa ang kinulang, pero magaganda yung mga sumunod like the latin salsa sa gitna, and the breakdance sa dulo.

I personally believe that UAAP CDC isn't yet as objective as many hoped it would be. If you read forums, such as Pinoy Exchange, wherein there are discussions between people who knows technicalities of Cheerleading and Gymnastics, many believed that UP was underrated and NU was overrated, if we're going to look at the score difference. Sure, NU deserved the championship pero sobrang laki ng score difference.

this is a competition.. may mananalo, may matatalo.. i believe UP is happy because they able to convey what they want to express through their cheerdance. If their aim is to express their advocacy.. then, they nailed it! Didn't matter if they got the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd price. The fact that they informed us with their theme.. it a big THUMBS UP for UP.

Meron ba ako katulad ng nararamdaman dito? I am rooting for UP since 2010 and my favorite squad because of Madonna routine. Hindi ko pa nakikita ang galing ng NU noon. Nung nag boycott ang UP year 2016, nakita ko ang galing NU since wala yung dati kong favorite Na UP. Binalikan ko yung mga performance ng NU since 2013 to 2015 nakita ko na malayo talaga ang galing ng NU Sa mga kalaban. Maybe bias ako Sa UP kasi favorite ko sila noon. Pero malayo Na talaga ang iginaling ng NU it takes years bago ko narealize at dahil don nag switch Na ako ng favorite. NU Na siguro for life kung hindi mag sstep up yung other schools. I love the UP Pep Squad (though I'm from a different school, hehe). Every year, sila talaga ang inaabangan ko. Pero this year, siguro, though di ako expert pagdating sa judging ng ganito, pero para sa 'kin, para talaga sa NU ang panalo. Oo, mas madaming mali ang NU, kung tally sheet ang pagbabasehan, pero compensated naman siya sa dami ng stunts, sabay-sabay (or kung may punto mang hindi, di naman halata), at yung stunts nila, may wow factor talaga at sobrang mas daring.
Siguro kasi masyadong powerhouse ang UP Pep Squad kaya madami pa din sa 'tin ang hirap tanggapin na twice na silang natatalo ng underdog na NU.

The part that bothers me the most actually, is not the fact that they got 2nd place, because honestly, I think UP Pep cared more about communicating their advocacy than winning (and they accomplished both, so, no complaints there) but the fact that their routine was so meaningful, so intricate that from beginning to end they were trying to send a message, and I don't think everyone understood that.

I'm not from UP nor from NU po pero bilang follower sa mga ganitong events gusto ko po rin sanang ma-eshare kung ano po pananaw ko sa resulta. I would say maganda ang NU kasi marami silang bagong stunts, fresh sa mata at staka parang wala din sila masyadong palpak pero para sa akin mas maganda ang UP kasi po sa simula pa lang kitang-kita mo na energy, kung gaano sila kasabay at higit sa lahat kung gaano kalinis ang kabuohan ng kanilang performance. Ang energy kasi ng UP, steady lang walang dull moments pero kumpara sa NU makikita at makikita mo ang mga dull moments nila tsaka hindi sila gaano kalinis. Winner should possess the total performance. PEACE po, personal opinion lang.
First. It was a close fight, but I think NU deserved it.
Second. NU won because their stunts were obviously much harder to execute than of the other schools. Malinis din yung dance (sabay-sabay), halos perfect yung pyramids kahit mahirap gawin, maganda din yung transition, wala ding dead air. They were above all the other schools based on the criterias (tumbling, stunts, tosses, pyramids, dance) for judging. And, logically, the competition results are based on these criterias.
Third. Wala naman sa criteria yung "message", or uniqueness. Kung yung criteria yung susundan, (I THINK) lamang talaga yung NU ng kunti sa UP. UP's routine was outstanding too; they obviously were above all the other schools except NU. But what matters most is the message UP brought to everyone. They were able to strike the hearts of many. They delivered a message that broke the norms of society. The UP pep squad had a mission that is more important than just winning. They performed to inspire; inspire everyone to break the shackles of racism. They sought a message to raise the ones below and bring down the ones above. We are all equal. And bringing home the hearts of the people is way more important than bringing home the bacon.
Fourth. This is for the people who think that the UP Pep Squad were sore losers because they were not as excited or smiling when they were called for 1st runner up. As an athlete, I wish to tell you that there is nothing more painful than winning 2nd place. Mas gusto pa naming mga atleta na manalo ng 3rd kese, kungbaga, parang nakasabit kami sa podium. Pero pag 2nd, hindi, sobrang sakit ng 2nd kese kunti na lang nandun ka na sa taas. Kunti na lang champion ka na. Each and every team trains hard; shedding blood, tears and sweat. All the teams did their very best, but when you end up second, you break down. Kese kapos. Kapos ka ng kunti para umabot sa taas, especially if you were targeting the top. Kapos yung pinaghirapan mo. Binigay mo na ang lahat lahat pero second lang. Isipin mo kung third, binigay mo ang lahat lahat, buti nakapasok sa top 3. Pag champion, binigay mo ang lahat lahat, success.

Athlete or not, you should admit defeat and that someone is better than you. Wag gawing reason na porket naghirap ka may karapatan ka nang maging bitter because that is simply undermining other people's success. Naghirap ka, yes. Pero baka mas naghirap yung iba kaya lumamang sila...

Amazing. Super level up ang mga performances. I think the only edge that NU has over them is the difficult pyramids and tumbling passes but all in all, awesomeness.
This routine may not have won this year. But for me, in terms of DANCE, this is the best performance I have ever seen in the history of this competition! That I can confidently say! :) Congrats UP Pep Squad!

hands down to the theme as well as the advocacy they are trying to tell people but infainess to NU PEP SQUAD during this time, they won it fair, tbh in terms of difficulty level, NU nailed it better plus the execution, buwis buhay ang labanan. BUT AGAIN, UP never fails to show such amazing and inspiring performance and message through their concepts each year. Great job to the both team and to the other squad in UAAP.

This video was posted 5 years ago and I am still watching this Im proud of them even they didn't even came 1st but their performance was so touching that there are people out there that is scared to say they are LGBT because there are still people in the world that dosn't accept LGBT in our school every classrooms we have a flag of LGBT signing that we the students and the school has accepted LGBT+ because there is no right and wrong with gender what if God created man and woman only bakit ba ang LGBT ba hindi lalaki at babae rin??? Just because UP was obviously disappointed when they were announced for first runner up doesn't make them act unsportsmanlike. They were obviously disappointed because they had hoped to win. and they expected to regain the crown given the single point deduction. Doesn't the same critique also apply when NU was announced as second runner up in the group stunts category? I don't see anyone criticizing them as acting in an unsportsmanlike manner with their sorely disappointed faces in full view. Both UP (in the cheerdance) and NU (in the group stunts) were visibly disappointed, but they were hardly unsportsmanlike.

To people who are bashing NU and/or UP and keep comparing both, this will hopefully enlighten you. Note that I'm a fan of both teams but I think they're Apples and Oranges, meaning they're very different from each other. I believe the bigger picture here is politics. You probably have heard of the politics of ICU (International Cheer Union) vs. IFC (International Federation of Cheerleading).
ICU - is a different cheer org which aims to promote cheerleading as a sport of it's own. NCC is an ICU-organization where NU and most PH squads are part of. ICU is more famous worldwide and have more member teams.
IFC - is an organization under FIG (International Federation of Gymnastics) which aims to promote cheerleading as a sport/branch of gymnastics. In the Philippines, the organization of IFC is (CPF) Cheerleading Philippines Federation which has lesser teams, including UP Pep Squad. But internationally, they have a lot of quite popular cherleading events like this CWC and the CAIOC for Asian countries.
ICU vs. IFC
- They interpret cheerleading differently and have different sets of rules and criteria.
- Both sanction each other that a team cannot compete in both competitions. You can only compete to competitions hosted by one of the two organizations.
- This is most likely the reason why NU and UP make their routines very differently. UP routines are made in a way that it should have lesser rooms for errors because under IFC rules, execution is just as important as difficulty. Sometimes, executions may weigh heavier at some point than difficulty. For instance, a slight wobble or shaky bases will have deductions, throwing all your hardwork for difficulty. Whereas NU with their gymnastics prowess can raise the difficulty because ICU rules most likely doesn't give as much emphasis with execution. It's still part of the criteria but not as important as difficulty.
Compare their 2013 to 2015 routines. UP has to marry both difficulty and execution (form and stability). One of their coaches said in an interview that during practice, if they can't execute it properly, they trim down the difficulty. Meaning whatever you see in competition, it's already the safest they can make, and they actually started experimented with more difficulty beforehand. Whereas NU is okay with a little bit of form breaks as long as no one falls and the difficulty is shown. Just see how trashy some of their pyramids were in 2013. Note that wasn't meant as a bash but it's true.
Compare the Tumblings as well. NU can afford to make double twists, arabian layouts, standing full twists and land in a very unstable manner because they won't care much about those executional errors. Whereas UP takes form and stability very seriously that they just opt for safer tumbling runs as long as it's executed in good technique, good form and stable landing. This is because under FIG rules, even a single step out of balance is already a deduction.
Another good point to raise are the stunts. UP makes only one-off difficult stunts, or one difficult stunt + an easy stunt, then quickly proceed to dismount. That way, there's little room for errors. NU on the other hand can afford more acrobatic moves. There are several difficult skills that they connect which results to higher difficulty scores. However, this results to some bases shaking or some girls wobbling. Although checking their NCC 2016 performance, they seemed to execute this very cleanly, most likely because their athleticism has improved over the years.

So in short, UP settled for the safest stunts to refrain deductions whereas to NU sacrificed the difficulty of stunts just to get high scores and they just have to makeup with the deductions by good execution of the remaining part of the routine?

I really love what UP pepsquad did... hindi lang sila nakapagboost ng skills nila ngayon dahil masyado silang nagstick sa campaign nila which I really appreciate. 30% back to basics sila. Ang hirap nga naman gumawa ng intense na stunt na babae ang sasapo at lalaki ang sasapuhin. I am looking forward na sa susunod na UAAP, when they return to the original roles (male lifters and female flyers) ay magboost ulit sila ng skills, knowing na magpeprepare talaga sila this 2015 para sa Cheerleading World Championship sa November 2015. Every 2 years lang kasi yung international competition. Well, maganda din naman ang ginawa ng NU pepsquad. I think yung mga stunts nila ay originally from Dragons Cheerleading team of Shih Hsin University (Taiwan) , BU cheerleading Team of Bangkok University (Thailand), At Braves Cheerleading Team of University of Nihonbunri (Japan)... Pero Kudos parin dahil ang hirap talagang gayahin ng mga stunts na iyon. Ang bilis din nila maglevel up, napanood ko kasi yung performance ng NU sa NCC early this year at sobrang laki ng kanilang inimprove sa UAAP, within a span of months...,, I think people must not fight comparing UP at NU, magkaiba naman kasi sila ng specialties, but they are equally good. Sana nga NU pep naman ang ipanlaban ng Pilipinas sa International Cheer Union which is another international competition.... I also want to recognize Altas perpsquad for winning four gold medals sa SEACO 2014, another wonderful cheerleading team from the Philippines... SEE???? sobrang ayos nga na dumadami na ang magagaling na cheerleading teams sa Pilipinas. Hindi na tayo mababash ng mga ibang nationalities na basic lang ang alam ng mga Filipino cheerleading teams.
So iyon.... NU and UP are equally good in different aspects.

I watched the UP and NU videos several times and here's what I think. I think both teams were in top form that day. Both teams prepared difficult routines that showed innovative moves. Both teams also executed their performances with much grace and finesse, making the stunts look very easy. Having said this, I do have to admit that on a TECHNICAL level, NU had the LESSER number of errors (based on what I could see on the video). I think the difficulty levels of the stunts seemed similar for both. However, I do feel that UP had a faster routine which for me made UP's performance SEEM a little more energetic and just a little more difficult than NU's. I assume the CDC is considered a sport and is thus judged primarily as one - as an act of PURELY physical prowess. If the judging of the CDC is purely as a sport, then I don't mind that NU won. As I mentioned, both teams were great but I concede that NU had the cleaner, more flawless routine. NU's near flawless routine shows how much preparation they put into this year's CDC and I do applaud them for it. However, it cannot be denied that UP Pep's routines, apart from being technically proficient, always go beyond being "just" a sport - there is always an "art" or "social" or "humanistic" element that is somehow consciously or unconsciously programmed into their work. And this year's routine just SCREAMED it, so to speak. This is the X-factor that UP Pep brings to the court that makes them stand out from everyone else ALL THE TIME, whether their routine is executed perfectly or not. Hence, if creativity and artistic expression were equal parts of the criteria, I have absolutely no doubt that UP would have won.
UP PEP SQUAD did an excellent job! They did more for the competition than the judges and organizers care to acknowledge. They turned it into an opportunity to express socially relevant issues. Perhaps, the organizers should promote socially relevant themes for every event even if its not part of the competition theme. They should donate to charity or for any worthy cause. This brings so much exposure to the sponsors, some of the profits should be used for non-commercial pursuits.

NU won but I think UP got more attention with their performance. I'm not from either school so I'm saying this as a normal observer's perspective. Mas maraming "gimik" ang performance nang #UniversityofthePhilippines kaya mas tumatak at nag-enjoy ang mga nanuod sa routine nila. Pero ang fault nila ay mistakes. 9 mistakes ang napansin ko, normal na manunuod lang ako. Papano pa kaya sa mga judges? Sa #NationalUniversity naman they were more focused on the synchronization part and perfecting there movements. Maybe that's the reason they won. Just saying. #NoBias
From what I know though, the judges only deducted one point from UP. 15 ang deducted sa NU. (based sa score sheets)
They did great, and their supporters' cheer at the end of the performance was catchy! :D
Ndi po to dance contest.. I'm from UP as well but NU nailed it! Their level of difficulty was intense their stunts are far better than us. We should judge them fair and square let's remove it in our head the word "LUTO" because NU prepared for it. Upians are intelligent people lets base it on the facts. NU outshined UP an the rest.

I think both teams did an amazing job (UP &NU).. technically NU displayed breath taking stunts (buwis buhay so to speak) and the floor works is more polished..mas defined yung lines..i was up on my toes clapping for them altho this is not my alma mater.. they've earned their place in this competition..however as for UP, their musicality is beyond compare.. best dancers so far and i do agree their theme has always been original.. genius esp the girls carrying the guys with such ease..ang galing! My jaw dropped. The equality message thug at my heartstring and yes i almost cried for this team when they did not win the title.. same thing, im not from UP.. both are winners..one took home the trophy and the other hearts of many..including mine.
