this is true as well! dragon quest and final fantasy have a ton to do with the gameplay of Pokemon games, but less so the global franchising and marketing behind it.
I'm shocked to see that you have less than 300 subscribers, after watching this I assumed you must have many thousands at least. But if you keep up this output I'm sure that will change soon! My one bit of criticism is that while I find the comparison between Tamagotchi and Pokémon to be interesting, in a discussion about Pokémon's predecessors and inspirations I don't know that Tamagotchi has a meaningful place in the discussion compared to the other topics discussed which are all very much relevant. If you want to bring up one more thing that is relevant to Pokémon's inspirations and its popularity in Japan, I feel that bug collecting would have been a pretty good choice (though if you wanted to strictly discuss other consumer products, I understand its exclusion, of course).
thanks for saying this. I tried to keep the topics to uniquely Japanese creations, I considered talking about dragon quest, but RPG's weren't exactly created in Japan either. In my research I found that Tamagotchi essentially prepared the public for the idea of Pokemon because of its similar colors, characters, and themes.
Criminally under-appreciated content
that's what I'm sayin
What a great vid Dan 👌🏻
You forgot to mention its inspiration for gameplay (dragon quest)
