Am thinking of joining the RAF and I have mild Tinnitus since I was like 10, this is really helpful. Glad to see you are getting better
Very interesting. I've had tinnitus for several years, beginning in my sixties. It's a cross between a buzz and a whine. As mentioned, you do get used to it, to the point where much of the time you don't notice it. Occasionally I get another sound: 'thrum- thrum' like a truck idling. However, this is easily removed by inflating the Eustachian tube that runs from nose to ear. Just close mouth, pinch nose and breath out to inflate it. I have wondered if the main tinnitus sound is actually a brain rather than an ear problem, and the account here seems to suggest as much... mental state can play a part. You're lucky to have RAF medical back-up... my local surgery is next to useless, I've found. Though maybe there isn't a lot to be done to cure tinnitus... your body will either sort itself out over time, or it won't.
My tinnitus was caused by taking doves during the rave dance scene in berlin in the early 90s and when on the buzz i would stick my head in the speakers and get another high now i have tinnitus 😂😂
