I've got crowder peas planted, not only because I like them, but because I like sitting on the porch shelling them by hand. I realize not everyone has that kind of time, but it is very relaxing to me. I have arthritis in my hands, so I don't know if I will be able to shell them and enjoy it as much as I used to, but it is one of life's simple pleasures.
That's a HELL of a good idea/invention. Now that I've researched it a bit, as a retired 'metal man', I'll wager I can build my own, (hand cranked), version for less than a hundred bucks. Maybe 150 if I use all stainless steel. A sincere thanks for the inspiration. 20 hours of labor to build my own will pay for itself the first season. I'm 'jazzed'. Once I get it 'dialed in', I'll be able to increase my pea crops ten fold. Again, thanks Danny. THIS is why I 'subbed'.
Wow that's nice I have the old fashion pea sheller(My Hands LOL),Done shelled about 2 bushels of peas And put them up for the winter got more on way hoping to get a big harvest we love peas at my house .Ya'll have a blessed day .
We had one of those when I was growing up. A lot of folks made there own back then. Man you talk about cutting down on shelling time- well worth the expense. Cut the shelling time down by days and sped up the canning efforts. Mama would set it up under a tree outside and my brother and I would shell for 3 or 4 days all day. SOOOO much better than doing it by hand. The price on these has jumped up considerably in the last year.
does this machine also work for dry beans?????.... I am about to purchase one and I want it for mainly dry beans so I can store them over winter.... thank you
Thank you for this! After a season, I should be able to buy this machine and have it pay for itself within the next. Very informative and thanks for the link.
I love to shell peas, takes me back to my grandmas porch. But anything over 1 bushel is time consuming and they will start going bad before you can get them shelled, I would say its a great investment for a homestead.
That is a great tool. Could you do a video on canning your peas? I am trying to learn as much as I can about canning. I have done green beans for years, but we love purple hull peas. Have a great harvest of them this year, and would much prefer to can them back than freeze them. Cause you know.... Power goes out and there goes all your hard work.
My cousin has one like that and he said that it shells purple hulls the best and he catches the devil with it shelling Red Rippers. What’s your experience with field peas other than purple hulls? I would love to get one that could do Red Rippers and White Acres. Is there a way to adjust the rollers?
That is a handy little machine! Bit pricey at $600 for me. I suppose if I had as many to shell as you guys have I could consider it. Several others listed on that page though at lower cost. Probably not as good as yours but may fit my needs. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Still labor intensive having to sit there and feed them in. Has to be a better mouse trap as the old saying says. $600, you would have to have a huge harvest to justify that investment on a family homestead. Are you doing a review on this one?
No review, just showing a sheller that Danny has owned for 20 years. So the investment has been worth it. Most years we harvest several bushels of peas of different varieties. I hand shell when it is less than a 5 gallon bucket.
@@DeepSouthHomestead Please read our comment about this version 2 offered. The original Taylor quit making them and customer service seems to be non-existant.
Does anyone else get the song stuck on a loop in their heads whenever Danny or Wanda talks about these Peas? I'd never heard of them before but that machine just cracked me up, it should have a sign on the side of it. The Purple Pea Pull Eater "🎶 It was a Rollin' Eyed, No Horned Steel Purple Pea-ple Eater,🎵 Not a One Eyed, One Horned, Flying Purple People Eater, Sure looked fine to me 🎶" Would it work for other Peas or for shelling the Beans you saved for seed?
Essem....LOL. I find myself constantly compelled to respond to your refreshing posts. 'One Eyed, One Horned, Flying Purple People Eater', indeed. That cracked me up. How are you even old enough to KNOW that song?....LOL. Personally, I'D rather shell MY 'seed' peas by hand tho.
singleman D'ya know I can't tell you how I know that song, it's one of those things that just popped into my head when D & W started talking about planting and "putting up" the Purple thingamabob peas lol.
Preserving food is a great idea and this is a great machine and you seem like nice people... but that tub of peas is not "a lot of money". I grow purple hull peas and I sometimes wonder if I'm wasting my time because beans are so cheap.

This coastal Alabama gal loves your video about your pea shelter, fascinating!

Bless your pea-pickin' hearts!!
That's a quick and easy way to shell pea.
Show!!! Parabéns, na agricultura familiar seria muito bom ter esse projeto disponível para download.
I was looking for videos on shelling peas and this popped up. Time passes but your advice is always great. Are you still using this machine?
So interesting...makes it pretty easy. God bless
Great machine wished I had that as a child LOL very sore fingers back then!!!
Does is squish the small peas or does the pea have to be fully mature

What have you found to be the best thing to use to clean that sticky aluminum?
What is the name of the pea Sheller ? Been looking for one.👍
Taylor Manufacturing Moultrie, GA (912} 985 4554 If they still make them that is the number on the plate on it.
Deep South Homestead Thank you very much.
That is a handy tool! Have you used the wringer to shell peas?
Taylor Pea Shellers can be purchased on Amazon or at 855Sheller.com. Free shipping.
Wow so much easier!
I'm wanting to plant English peas. Just wondering where & what kind to order.😊 Could you help me out.
The Taylor Pea Sheller has adjustable rollers and can handle English peas and many others. Check it out at 855Sheller.com.
That is awesome :)

The peas do not have to be feed individually. They are group fed as you move them forward. HUGE time saver.

I got one. Easy to shell a hamper out in 15 minutes or less.
We got one, too. Please read our comment. We are so disappointed.

Dats some good eatin' right there :)
599.00. Think I can shell by hand cheaper. Just 2 of us. I don't mind. Now if I was shelling and putting in pkgs for selling, might pay to buy one.
It sure is quicker and you don't get sore fingers.
Don't have enough peas to do this but it sure helps you!
OH I want those HA HA
Hmmm....thats right nifty, l like eating raw peas...😆
Y'all so slow...we could shell a truck bed full ....we shoved them thru the pea sheller..not one at a time..didn't have time to play with it
