I'm not sure how much an oil boiler hot water circulator uses, but in an emergency it'd take about 20-30 minutes to heat a house for a couple of hours on one circulation to set wall temp on an oil boiler. Either way, with gas and oil price it's cheaper to run it with somekind of battery until ppl is back on unless it's more than 8 hours. 5 gallons of gas for 8 hours vs how many charges out of batteries.
It's possible to scrape around to find the cheapest parts to do an hho gas mod to a gas generator too. a cheaper deep cycle gel battery for example to charge it

I've seen some go bank, ups, into an inveter this is the same thing except replaces the ups and inverter in one unit.

Look into a 10k btu window ac unit and a Honda geny. Might need some help setting the window unit up in an emergency, but all for 1600$ might be worth it for you. I ain't sleeping without ac

There are many things to do without spending a dime. Here is what I've learned... 1. Unplug everything to see what's absolutely needed & only use when needed. 2. Began to use up fridge/freezer foods, transitioning to shelf-stable only. That alone will save up to $50/mo. to not run fridge, plus avoid losing frig/freezer food during power outage. 3. Learn to live without heat or A/C to practice. If you have to use A/C to stay alive, get used to warmer temps by gradually raising thermostat. Ditto for heat, using extra layers of clothes & moving to a smaller room or tent within a room. Go smaller. *Don't bother with heat or candles at night for safety since you can get under covers.* I practiced all this during 2° in Texas ice storm. Not perfect, but works. 4. Heating ideas are many. Many know the "two upside down clay pots over a few small candles on a heat proof surface" method. Many UA-cams with helpful comments. A cheap long-lasting candle is to put Crisco in a glass jar with homemade wick made from dipping twine into wax. UA-cam's on this too. Use hot water bottle tucked clothes, cold in summer, warm in winter. Use a thermal wrap usually in WM sports dept for $10 to keep core heat in. 5. To cook off grid, put fuel can (like sterno), in oven with lid half ajar with thinist 2 qt pot on shelf over that & loose foil around all. Light for about 2 hours while getting ready for bed, then tap lid all the way on to put out the now half-full fuel can, quickly closing oven, leaving it warm all night to finish cooking. Season when eating to keep smelling down since will be panic when food runs out. Half cup each beans, rice, flour, filling pot rest of way with water will keep you fed for a day, averaging $73 a year. Enhance as able, but this can be your base (with a multivitamin). Note pinto beans take 2 hours, but lentils 20 minutes, so lentils better due to coming fuel shortage. Once people start to scavenge the countryside, even twigs may be hard to find. 6. For water, store as much as possible. Keep water purification methods for when that runs out. Locate water sources nearby to purify, to drink, not to bathe or clean (other methods for that). 7. For light, try to get things done during day, but keep small candle to use only when needed at night, *not to leave burning. Sleep at night & work during day. 8. To bathe, keep small jar with tbsp of liquid peppermint soap from Walmart (the cheaper version of Dr Bonners) or cheapest dishwashing liquid you can find with clean rag & water. Have separate small jar with teaspoon of bleach & water to store rag in when not in use. Fill both with water. Wipe head to toe with peppermint rag squeezed out, never re-dipping into soapy jar, just tipping a little out onto the rag when needed. A wet wipe cut in half (to stretch supplies out) for personal area, then throw away. Several who live in RVs have used this for years & wouldn't go back to regular showers. For hair, use peppermint soap in squeeze bottle sparingly & leaving in to save water, or dry-shampoo with cornstarch or baby powder. 9. For self-defense without a gun, if one is unattainable, use Home-Alone style resources, like stacking totes in front of door if in an RV that swings outward, or pushing heavy furniture against regular door. Alarms are cheap at Dollar Tree. Keep a whistle around neck. Even if no one is around to hear, it can still cause intruder to flee. Have cups of marbles near entrances to make it impossible to walk & learn to shuffle through them yourself. Give no appearance of wealth or preps. Wear plain clothes, using no jewelry. Place knives in sheaths around which are cheap at Dollar Tree & Walmart. Practice technique. Pepper spray for outside, pepper gel inside. Learn how to hold in air to spray while ducking & quickly stepping aside, to avoid their made lunge forward. Use motion detector lights by entrances. You get the idea & may think of many more. 10. Barter. Separate out anything you don't actually need, but only show 1-2 items at a time, perhaps leaving these outside in hidden spot. Never open door. Never hint of having more. Negotiate from a window opened only enough to talk. Once they show you what they plan to barter (assuming communication down), have them put it by door, then reveal the hidden spot. Even if they steal & run, after saying they would leave something, you've only lost one or two items. Constantly vary hiding spot. There may be better ways to do this, but you get the idea. Always ask if they know anywhere you can get food or water because you are almost out. 11. For bathroom, double line 3-5 gal bucket, putting opt. sawdust or kitty litter in bottom. Bury. These are basic beginning ideas to get you started thinking of better ones.

I cannot speak for this unit, but I have a Grecell 2000w and it's a great. well made unit. It's been powering my desk are (modem, computer, monitor and light) 24/7 for over a month now without any issues.
I got a small one (walmart) that even had a rechargeable battery in it. It blows just as good as this medium size electric fan I got for my jackery. Uses way less watts.
This is so true. Went camping a couple months go and it was warm even at night. Hooked up a couple of those USB fans and even a small bug light. Barley used 35% on a Jackery 240.

I saw a great tip for moving around generators on another channel. I believe it was Disabled and Prepping. She got one of those carriers, I believe it's a sewing machine carrier, but they also make them for crafts, and she was able to find one that fit her generator perfectly to wheel it around with a handle. This way even people in a wheelchair can move a small to medium size generator.
I LIKE this little unit! My personal needs are a bit more than this can produce, but for folks whose needs are minimal and don't have a lot of funds, I would definitely recommend this thing as well. I design and build these systems myself, so I have no need for one of these. I tend to build mine in Pelican or Harbor Freight Hard Cases for durability. The one I JUST built day before yesterday was a bit of a departure from what I normally do. I bought the $39.95 Harbor Freight case, Built a MINI Solar Generator inside of it using a 148 Watt Hour Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery, a Powerwerx 10 Amp Solar Charge Controller Mounted on the inside wall of the case, all the switching is on the outside of the box-Charge Controller controls, a DUAL 3 Amp usb socket, and a standard 12 VDC Cig Plug for 12 Volt in/out applications. I included an external Miniature sized 100 Watt AC Inverter. This formed the Heart of what is now my new EMCOMM Kit. I had JUST enough room left for TWO Ham Walkie Talkies, a Yaesu FT-4 and a Yaesu VX-6. I also have ALL of the various application Antennas I need for BOTH Radios. I opted for the FT-4, because it was an EASY MARS /CAP Mod. I went with the VX-6 because it gives me 220 Mhz. in addition to 2 Meter & 440 Mhz. It also holds Two Batteries for Each Radio and a drop in Charge Cradle for each. The Owner's Manuals fit vey neatly in the top of the case, and I have an External ALL-POWERS 100 Watt Fold up Solar Panel to charge it in remote areas. So, with the wall chargers as well, I can charge the system from AC, my vehicle, OR Solar. In the next few days, I hope to send SP-1 some photos of my home built Portable.

We finally got our firs generator and it’s gas. Bought it because it can be attached to another one. Great to be able to share with family or friends that have the same one.

Very helpful video! I have a small transit connect van. So far, I have a small anker power station paired with a 50 watt panel. It's worked well so far for small things like my phone and even a small fridge, but I wanted to have enough power for a hot plate and what not. So, I now have a Bluetti station at about 850 watts and pairing this with two 100 watt panels. I hadn't thought about lighting or a fan but dc sounds perfect! Thank you! By the way, for small areas and camping in general, I recommend those little blow up cube lights from luminAID.
Great video to inform others of options on preparing. Keep up the good work. Small power stations such as these can be quite versatile if used properly. It's no Jackery or Ecoflow but its a start. I have a GoLabs R300 in my work truck which I use to run a couple of rechargeble USB fans, a USB string light, and keep my cellphone & FRS radio charged when I cannot idle. Fuel too expensive. I recharge by lighter port or a 60w folding solar panel. I have a similar setup in my garden/work shed. Rockpals 300 with a used 100w rigid solar panel for $35 to power it up. I use it for lights, USB 5v ceiling fan and recharging my 18v batteries for my power tools. It can easily be adapted for living in a car, Vanlife, Boondocking, camping, limited Off-Grid ... just make sure you have USB or DC items since they have minimum power draw.

I have flat thin 100watt panels on the way, I am going to attach those to my truck bed cover and will bring it to work every day and charge it then bring it in and run my office off of it. thanks for the info on that model bro... This looks like a good generator for the money. But if you don't need an AC option there are more affordable units. I have an Eco Worthy and I used it during the last power outage. It only has 85 watts, but you also get the lights, 3 of them, and the solar panel - all for about $56 last time I checked. I may also purchase this unit and thanks for showing it to us. I'm older and on a fixed income too. This might be able to power a little counter top ice maker that I have, which could help keep things cool in an ice chest when you don't have refrigeration.
I added a second usb fan to add to the one I already have,I have 2 of these small power stations (different brands) which I can use during power outages or take camping
I got Baldor REFURBISHED just like that different name . ~$110 ea got 2 Also got 2/60W solar panels. Bought 2 02cool 9" fans my plan is use one recharge the other. I spent some money but insured for a bit more than nothing at all.

For y'all on the creative side you can make a power bank for the same price, more power, and higher output with a motorcycle battery or deep cycle. Only difference is weight, I'm very impressed they got it down to 8 pounds
I have 200 usable ah bank with 3500watt continuis inverter with 500 watt solar panels with victron controller have no problem running frige and tv 24/7
I have a 02cool fan, that used 6 D cell batteries, (also a adapter plugin) and have gotten about 50 hours from the batteries. Not sure how D cells would compare to this, but for the price of batteries, vs this, it may be a good deal. At the moment I use a marine battery and inverter as power backup.

I bought a jackery and it will run a fan and charge cell phone and you can charge it while charging your phone or you can run your Christmas lights on it .has a little smell that I noticed
oh man, wow that's plenty of output to recharge like, ryobi power tools too, and still have some leftover for like two USB and a low power boot dryer. very nice for that price.
I keep a couple of small battery packs with USB charging capabilities with me. The one that's in my EDC pack is a 26,800mAh Anker pack. It can keep my phone charged for about a week. I also keep a USB chargeable flashlight. I have an old battery pack with a better switch (definite on and off, not some software defined thing) with two 1W USB wand lights. That can run for days and provide light in an entire room. (I have white ceilings, so I point it up and it provides an ambient glow.) Each of those can fit into a pocket, a hiking pack, and are relatively cheap, versatile, and rechargeable.
I have six 30,000 mHa battery packs I use constantly to keep my phone charged, plus a Jackery and a cheaper 42,000 mHa portable charger, not to mention the three power banks stored in my faraday cage. I'm constantly charging things like cell phone batteries, flashlight batteries, bicycle tail lights and a bicycle headlight. In my garage I keep a Generac portable gasoline generator that will put out 8,500 startup watts and 7500 running watts. With the exception of the Generac, all these devices run on lithium ion batteries
I bought a 2000 watt solar generator with a additional 2 deep cycle batteries went 5 days when power went out ,more realistic when power goes out ,about 2500.00 with solar panels also you can charge with regular outlets or car cigarette lighter in 5 hrs ,however you need the car running ,also can be powered with wind energy for night time ,i did not buy that because i didn't think i needed that but it can be done for long term outages ,my advice is to shut your fuse box off an practice ,don't wait until the power goes out ,that's how i learned
I have a small unit like this. As you say, I like pass thru charging. It got to where I could not read by lantern during a power outage, I needed more light. I took one of my lamps and converted it to run of 12v by putting in a 12v bulb that you might find in an RV. I did not damage the cord, I took a cheap extension cord and cut off the female end, attached a barrel plug pigtail that can plug into the power station. It stays by the lamp, with the lamp plugged in. If the power goes out I just need to turn on the lamp. I can then charge my phone or tablet as needed. If I wanted, I could modify the lamp on the other side of the sofa as well. Running one or two 12v lights is nothing for these units. All the modifications can be removed in a matter of minutes.

It will be WW3 when it comes in this week because my hubby is not awake ,, and fights me on every avenue !! But I needed to add this to my prep!! Cashed in the last of stock to do it since it was on a steady decline !! Soon to be all gone with the market like it is,, We do have a generator but since he's not awake no storing of fuel we do keep cars topped up . Say a prayer hubby takes it well

i need one that will run a small heater in winter if power is out. i'm a 66 yo woman, not helpless but alone. only have electric heat. tenn nights can get cold
Running a heater on a solar battery bank may not be the best fit. Have you looked into a Mr. Buddy and propane tanks? Yes the tanks are heavy and can get pricey. But ours has saved our rear ends in a pinch!
I'm in my seventies and wear extra layers in winter and sleep under warm comforter with no heat at night, even though prone to feel cold. I make a little air tunnel to get air in the covers to keep my head under them too..Works great. For day, I use the two upside down clay pots on a fireproof surface over candles (experimenting with this now). I also drink hot liquids like tea and move around to generate heat. Hope this helps!

It's nuts. In PA an oil boiler uses 3 gallons a day on winter setting. If you put it on summer setting in winter you'd think it'd burn less but it actually burns 5 gallons a day then and uses more. winter setting burn hotter in less time.

I cannot speak for this unit, but I have a Grecell 2000w and it's a great. well made unit. It's been powering my desk are (modem, computer, monitor and light) 24/7 for over a month now without any issues.
What does that one weigh?

USB powered fans work really well with these kind of units too, and you can use multiple fans at the same time and use very low power.
I got a small one (walmart) that even had a rechargeable battery in it. It blows just as good as this medium size electric fan I got for my jackery. Uses way less watts.
This is so true. Went camping a couple months go and it was warm even at night. Hooked up a couple of those USB fans and even a small bug light. Barley used 35% on a Jackery 240.

I saw a great tip for moving around generators on another channel. I believe it was Disabled and Prepping. She got one of those carriers, I believe it's a sewing machine carrier, but they also make them for crafts, and she was able to find one that fit her generator perfectly to wheel it around with a handle. This way even people in a wheelchair can move a small to medium size generator.

My personal needs are a bit more than this can produce, but for folks whose needs are minimal and don't have a lot of funds, I would definitely recommend this thing as well.
I design and build these systems myself, so I have no need for one of these. I tend to build mine in Pelican or Harbor Freight Hard Cases for durability.
The one I JUST built day before yesterday was a bit of a departure from what I normally do. I bought the $39.95 Harbor Freight case, Built a MINI Solar Generator inside of it using a 148 Watt Hour Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery, a Powerwerx 10 Amp Solar Charge Controller Mounted on the inside wall of the case, all the switching is on the outside of the box-Charge Controller controls, a DUAL 3 Amp usb socket, and a standard 12 VDC Cig Plug for 12 Volt in/out applications. I included an external Miniature sized 100 Watt AC Inverter. This formed the Heart of what is now my new EMCOMM Kit. I had JUST enough room left for TWO Ham Walkie Talkies, a Yaesu FT-4 and a Yaesu VX-6. I also have ALL of the various application Antennas I need for BOTH Radios. I opted for the FT-4, because it was an EASY MARS /CAP Mod. I went with the VX-6 because it gives me 220 Mhz. in addition to 2 Meter & 440 Mhz. It also holds Two Batteries for Each Radio and a drop in Charge Cradle for each. The Owner's Manuals fit vey neatly in the top of the case, and I have an External ALL-POWERS 100 Watt Fold up Solar Panel to charge it in remote areas. So, with the wall chargers as well, I can charge the system from AC, my vehicle, OR Solar.
In the next few days, I hope to send SP-1 some photos of my home built Portable.

Everyone should have some sort of battery backup. Solor powered generator or something similar. You never know when you'll need it, and you'll wish you had it when you do need it. We can all smell something in the air, and it stinks. Worldwide.

Very helpful video! I have a small transit connect van. So far, I have a small anker power station paired with a 50 watt panel. It's worked well so far for small things like my phone and even a small fridge, but I wanted to have enough power for a hot plate and what not. So, I now have a Bluetti station at about 850 watts and pairing this with two 100 watt panels. I hadn't thought about lighting or a fan but dc sounds perfect! Thank you! By the way, for small areas and camping in general, I recommend those little blow up cube lights from luminAID.
Those luminAIDs work great and charges quite well. Every one in the family has one when hiking or camping. Easily packable.
Great video to inform others of options on preparing. Keep up the good work. Small power stations such as these can be quite versatile if used properly. It's no Jackery or Ecoflow but its a start. I have a GoLabs R300 in my work truck which I use to run a couple of rechargeble USB fans, a USB string light, and keep my cellphone & FRS radio charged when I cannot idle. Fuel too expensive. I recharge by lighter port or a 60w folding solar panel. I have a similar setup in my garden/work shed. Rockpals 300 with a used 100w rigid solar panel for $35 to power it up. I use it for lights, USB 5v ceiling fan and recharging my 18v batteries for my power tools. It can easily be adapted for living in a car, Vanlife, Boondocking, camping, limited Off-Grid ... just make sure you have USB or DC items since they have minimum power draw.
Bluetti EB3A is the best value in the =< 600 watt. Only 10 lbs Can be had for $209

283 watts divided by 3 watts is about 95 hrs use time. Minus the efficiency you'll have 63 hrs of use before have to recharge

Eventually the fuel runs out. And are fire hazards. And emit smoke and fumes. But these solar charged Lithium packs keep going for years.

I have flat thin 100watt panels on the way, I am going to attach those to my truck bed cover and will bring it to work every day and charge it then bring it in and run my office off of it. thanks for the info on that model bro... Stay dangerous.

This looks like a good generator for the money. But if you don't need an AC option there are more affordable units. I have an Eco Worthy and I used it during the last power outage. It only has 85 watts, but you also get the lights, 3 of them, and the solar panel - all for about $56 last time I checked. I may also purchase this unit and thanks for showing it to us. I'm older and on a fixed income too. This might be able to power a little counter top ice maker that I have, which could help keep things cool in an ice chest when you don't have refrigeration.
Wish I saw this before purchasing the Biolite 620 which cost three times more with a 6w panel only.

I got Baldor REFURBISHED just like that different name . ~$110 ea got 2 Also got 2/60W solar panels. Bought 2 02cool 9" fans my plan is use one recharge the other. I spent some money but insured for a bit more than nothing at all.

Thanks a lot I’m living in my truck I’ve been homeless for 4 yrs I’m a combat grunt a LRRP and a tunnel rat my xeife took all my money and I had to move out on my b-day I’m disabled veteran it’s hard to live out in the wild cause I have a truck and everyone fines me and I’m constantly moving I’ve traveled the country east to west and north to south twice.
nice bite sized prep item. I could see buying multiple units as funding allows.
They are light and small enough for kids to carry in their backpack or by hand. A great incentive for kids to keep their "entertainment" charged.

For y'all on the creative side you can make a power bank for the same price, more power, and higher output with a motorcycle battery or deep cycle. Only difference is weight, I'm very impressed they got it down to 8 pounds

I have a 02cool fan, that used 6 D cell batteries, (also a adapter plugin) and have gotten about 50 hours from the batteries. Not sure how D cells would compare to this, but for the price of batteries, vs this, it may be a good deal.
At the moment I use a marine battery and inverter as power backup.
Have you tried a solar powered battery charger...and rechargeable D batteries?

I bought a jackery and it will run a fan and charge cell phone and you can charge it while charging your phone or you can run your Christmas lights on it .has a little smell that I noticed

I keep a couple of small battery packs with USB charging capabilities with me. The one that's in my EDC pack is a 26,800mAh Anker pack. It can keep my phone charged for about a week. I also keep a USB chargeable flashlight. I have an old battery pack with a better switch (definite on and off, not some software defined thing) with two 1W USB wand lights. That can run for days and provide light in an entire room. (I have white ceilings, so I point it up and it provides an ambient glow.) Each of those can fit into a pocket, a hiking pack, and are relatively cheap, versatile, and rechargeable.
I have six 30,000 mHa battery packs I use constantly to keep my phone charged, plus a Jackery and a cheaper 42,000 mHa portable charger, not to mention the three power banks stored in my faraday cage. I'm constantly charging things like cell phone batteries, flashlight batteries, bicycle tail lights and a bicycle headlight. In my garage I keep a Generac portable gasoline generator that will put out 8,500 startup watts and 7500 running watts. With the exception of the Generac, all these devices run on lithium ion batteries

I bought a 2000 watt solar generator with a additional 2 deep cycle batteries went 5 days when power went out ,more realistic when power goes out ,about 2500.00 with solar panels also you can charge with regular outlets or car cigarette lighter in 5 hrs ,however you need the car running ,also can be powered with wind energy for night time ,i did not buy that because i didn't think i needed that but it can be done for long term outages ,my advice is to shut your fuse box off an practice ,don't wait until the power goes out ,that's how i learned

I have a small unit like this. As you say, I like pass thru charging. It got to where I could not read by lantern during a power outage, I needed more light. I took one of my lamps and converted it to run of 12v by putting in a 12v bulb that you might find in an RV. I did not damage the cord, I took a cheap extension cord and cut off the female end, attached a barrel plug pigtail that can plug into the power station. It stays by the lamp, with the lamp plugged in. If the power goes out I just need to turn on the lamp. I can then charge my phone or tablet as needed. If I wanted, I could modify the lamp on the other side of the sofa as well. Running one or two 12v lights is nothing for these units. All the modifications can be removed in a matter of minutes.

You'd need a big unit, 2000W with a lot of solar panels. But you can run a small electric blanket.
Running a heater on a solar battery bank may not be the best fit. Have you looked into a Mr. Buddy and propane tanks? Yes the tanks are heavy and can get pricey. But ours has saved our rear ends in a pinch!
I'm in my seventies and wear extra layers in winter and sleep under warm comforter with no heat at night, even though prone to feel cold. I make a little air tunnel to get air in the covers to keep my head under them too..Works great.
For day, I use the two upside down clay pots on a fireproof surface over candles (experimenting with this now).
I also drink hot liquids like tea and move around to generate heat. Hope this helps!

It's nuts. In PA an oil boiler uses 3 gallons a day on winter setting. If you put it on summer setting in winter you'd think it'd burn less but it actually burns 5 gallons a day then and uses more. winter setting burn hotter in less time.
