    For anybody thinking Bob is crazy on the weight thing - my 7" 2507 quad weighs the same... with a Session in a TPU mount on it. It's definitely possible to make that build lighter.
    Mine doesn't fly perfectly, but the old Floss 2.1 girl still absolutely parties... can't wait to see how much better those can get. Still shocked it's handled the abuse it has seen.

    It's not that 7000 series Aluminum is harder to work with, just that tool life goes down. One of those very China things that they'll consider that a massive price difference, but that is why 6061 is the default.

      KababFPV haha to me when you have a heavier quad you will definitely have more issues tuning out prop wash. Thats the biggest selling point for me besides how it feels in the air. Hence why some people get prop wash issues even with the FCs in today’s market.

    i know everyone has their preference on builds and weight, although there is no denying that a light weight quad is the only way to go for an acro build. I built a floss 2.1 6" with 2208 xing-e motors and running S4 props and its hands down the best performing quad ive ever built and or flown to date. Its literally a point and shoot type experience. Ive watched your videos and listened to your findings for a couple years now and i agree with almost everything you've discovered over all your time experimenting. And when i put into practice all you've said, ive had great results. I personally really appreciate all your time and effort that you put into your channel. thanks for everything....

My heavier build with custom frame based on 6-inch Martian frame is 615g AUW. Same motors, ESC and FC. Difference in flight performance is massive, just because of the weight, also flight time is shorter and v-max is 20km/h less because of air drag (150km/h on lighter build with narrower arms, 130km/h on heavier with wider arms and top-mounted battery). I have GPS on both.

    If you want to get deep. Blade stall is really what defines your disc loading limits. Can't have more pitch without blade stall and you can't have (much) more rpm without transonic tip velocities. It therefore follows that there is going to be a thrust ceiling where in order to gain more thrust you need to increase diameter because you can't increase pitch or rpm anymore. As you note this is going to be most obvious under high stall conditions, eg full throttle when going slow, catching dives etc. Why do you like lower pitch props and high RPM? (probably) because lower pitch is less stall when you want it most.

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  5 років тому

      Right that's my current theory of why shallower props are preferred. But I have no real world evidence other than what I feel.

    • @frasersteen
      @frasersteen 5 років тому

      @@Kabab if you put your motor prop combos into ecalc it will give you a speed for when the prop blade stall has disappeared. Just colour for the picture rather than data you can use but interesting none the less.
      I'm trying to figure out how to calculate blade stall pitch/rpm so I can get a sense of how much stall you would expect across different setups. Currently I get the sense 3:2 diameter to pitch ratio is the upper limit of what we can get away with at the rpm we are running possibly even 5:3.

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  5 років тому

      @@frasersteen calculations are great but I've tried looking at bench tests to see if there is any thrust curve change between a shallow and steep prop of the same design. Can't find any effect. I even had the tester expand the beginning RPM range looking for any effect. Nothing.

    • @frasersteen
      @frasersteen 5 років тому

      @@Kabab I'm not sure you could test it like that. I think realistically you have to cfd it (which is beyond anything I can do). You wouldn't necessarily expect to see anything except efficiency decreasing faster than the increasing tip drag would suggest it should.

      ... and I love them. Bit frustrating when I forget, but it's nice to not hit gates and watch the motor proceed to yeet the prop nut into narnia then beach itself uselessly... but better motor bell designs also fix that

    ?nice quad

  • @3eggerfpv397
    @3eggerfpv397 5 років тому

    It’s a beautifully built quad, I think! The electrical tape holding the CRSF antenna is a nice touch! Crisscross rubberbands even better! IF the Tarsier FPV feed is what you see flying, which it is, who cares if the HD feed is behind it? It will always be behind it if you synch the two in post, because that HD feed is buffering to the record drive, and will never be synched to the FPV feed much after take-off, but equate to the same thing when you edit your flight. Does that sound logical, or am I missing something?

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  5 років тому

      Nothing is edited from any recording. These are straight dumps from the GoPro, Tarsier and goggle recorder

    • @3eggerfpv397
      @3eggerfpv397 5 років тому

      KababFPV - Okay straight dump to an editing timeline, that hasn’t been edited. That tarsier HD will never synch with the FPV feed for very long after take-off, because of it’s buffer to the record source, whether that be an internal drive or to micro sd. No? My understanding of the Tarsier is it’s asplit signal, one to the direct goggle feed, and the other to a hd record feed? Well that record feed needs to buffer, so if you line those up on a timeline anbd except those to stay in synch, not happening!

      @@3eggerfpv397 Everything you're saying makes sense, except when you watch the GoPro with the DVR. A completely separate optical & signal chain to a separate recording device does a better job... which is all I need to know to realize something is off

    • @3eggerfpv397
      @3eggerfpv397 5 років тому

      @@tehllama42 - GoPro is a self-contained record, the tarsier isn't, it's cabled to the record source, therefore you're going to get latency. Again, if the tarsier hd record isn't what you're flying to through your goggles, who cares, it going to buffer the full flight and when you play that back on your editing device, it's the entire flight. Now if you try and also synch that record up with your goggle DVR record the two will drift, but why would you want to do synch those two sources?
