      If you have really thick hair you’ll be looking at more than $200 ;~; depending on the company, even when I buy the thickest set they’re still not thick enough. For something to go in my hair and blend properly it’d be more like $400-$500 ;~; I’d rather just be patient for 4 yrs lol

      Hayley M my first thought as well! All kinds of theories come to mind and they’re not very optimistic :s

    • @kayleymelissa
      @kayleymelissa  6 років тому +101

      So, yes, I had some of that which I cut out for time. I think there can be a lot of things to consider. 1. many cultures grow and sell their hair; apparently it's not uncommon at all in some parts of the world. Shaving your hair is also a religious sacrament practiced in parts of the word and the places of worship typically auction that hair. 2. That hair will be different levels of quality and the raw goods will be priced based on that. I expected that the WISH extensions were the bargain basement option (though after trying them they were a little better than expected, but things like the ends being so subpar point to lower quality). 3. There is a markup for more expensive brands so I expect the amount I'm spending in pure profit for the brand is more than I'm spending for WISH. 4. American money goes further in China (which is about on par with the Peso right now) so the smaller profit margin may be more acceptable. 5. The finer set is thinner than any set sold on your typical hair extension sites by about half.
      And Holy Wall of Text! I think it's possible that everything can be totally on the up and up. I also have to admit that I've heard stories about unethical practices in gathering human hair, but any good journalist will always point out that these stories are elusive and it is hard to ever trace any concrete proof. For that reason I have a hard time disowning extensions, even cheap extensions, all together, but I would love to find companies that step up and secure their hair gathering process from beginning to end to prove that it is ethical. Though I expect those would be even more expensive.
      Whew!! I hope that answered your question!

    • @etg9277
      @etg9277 6 років тому +36

      I would argue that places of worship that sell on hair is kinda of exploitative. Also it's been regularly reported that a lot of hair comes from buyers going round poor villages convincing girls to sell their hair. This is often called comb hair because they collect it from their brushes and plug holes. Also because they shop for hair in poor areas there's a lot of people that sell on corpses hair without the buyer knowing or caring. Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable buying any hair extensions particularly super cheap ones. This is in no way meant as a attack on this video but anybody thinking of buying extensions should research as much as possible and make up their own mind

    Well cheap synthetic wig not mean to used right away.
    You need to repair them a bit, by brushing,washing it,style again and then spray dry shampoo for less shiny looking.
    Trust me, after repair it and styling it,it would look far better.
    I've done it lots of time and most people say that they think its my real hair, i just share my knowledge a little bit but you go gurl ♡ love ya.

      Annelies i got some a few days ago. If you want to use them for adding length I would not recommend them because they are really thin on the bottom. But I wanted to use mine for adding thickness and volume and to hide my bad hair cut. I bought mine 2 inches longer than my regular length and then Cut them. If you are searching for extensions to add thickness I would totally recommend them.

    I think it's definitely harder to find synthetic extensions that look realistic when they are in the blonde range. I have super dark hair though and just bought a set of dark/curly synthetic extensions from Amazon for just $9 and they are FANTASTIC!!! People that don't know me have no clue it's not my real hair when I wear it and it blends perfectly with my hair. That being said, I do have to trim the ends every so often just to get rid of the snagged and stretched strands, but overall, I've been thrilled with them

    • @ccap3211
      @ccap3211 6 років тому +5

      Harriet Simmons I always look for someone who makes you book consultations (they’re free) before they do anything to your hair. My stylist makes you fill out a questionnaire online and then book a 15 min consult where she looks at your hair and asks even more questions and writes it all down. I also look at their Instagram or website where they post all their work. If you don’t like their work then don’t go to them.

      I live in a smallish town and my mom knows everyone basically so i ask my mom but honestly the more expensive the better service. I touch up my root every month and my mom goes to a diferent stylist and i pay 200kn and my mom pays 80-100kn. You just need to see what stylist does a good job on your hair type.

    Kayley Melissa, sorry about my previous rant, but on a different matter, I am thinking A lot of the problem with your first extensions may have had to do a little with the brand and mostly with the mismatching color. I say this because I purchased an eight piece set on eBay for barely ten bucks and, for the price, they are pretty impressive. They are much thicker the ones you got and because they match my hair color almost perfectly, they blend quite well. I get compliments all the time when I wear them.

    My biggest complaint with cheaper extensions sourced from places like China is that it's north east asian hair, which is totally different type and texture to my fine european hair and you can tell the difference (and they have totally different styling needs to mine). I get my extensions from an online beauty supplier that are 100% remy european hair and they're sold with some mark up, but not nearly to the degree of places like bellami or others. I'm also Australian so for me it's a bargain to get 160-180g of european human extensions for $90. I love this video!

      There is almost no policing in the human hair industry. When you buy real hair, wether it's 20$ in wish or 200$ at a hair salon you still have absolutely no guarantee of where it came from. The scariest option for me is that the hair might be collected from someone who's a victim of human trafficking, whos womb or organs might be harvested. It is so scary and disgusting I'm never going near real hair extensions:

    If the human hair is that cheep, it makes me think about how it was sourced. I'd worry that it wasn't ethically sourced.

    • @peppapig1972

      Lisa Chen I still don't believe that is ethically sourced. I'd be furious to know my hair had been sold on.
      Reading some of the comments it appears some people whom have died have had their head shaved without prior consent. Again I don't believe this is ethically sourced either. It's theft.

      Kitty none of this shit has any proof. It's obviously cheaper because the hair sellers sold their hair to the vendor at a cheaper price.

    • @infiniteworlds5
      @infiniteworlds5 6 років тому +8

      No, real, HEALTHY hair that has been sold from a person to a vendor is usually among the highest quality hair out there. It is NOT cheap.
      This nasty hair here is taken from brushes or corpses, bleached and stripped and boiled, then colored and coated in silicone. It'll kinda take some dye once or twice, but not well, and it'll start to fall apart after a few washes.

    Thank you for this video! You saved me some $$. I have seen similar videos but I wasn't familiar with the person so I didn't know the knowledge base that they are working off of (if infact they had any really knowledge of hair care at all). I am familiar with you and I appreciate your opinion. Thanks again!

    I haven't won't them in years because my hair not black anymore and my natural hair is 20" but every now and then I still condition them and they are going well

    Could you do a video about what type of hairstyles suit someone's face shape? Not hair cuts but hair styles. For example I think some people look amazing with tight slicked back ponies and buns but for others, it doesn't suit them. I also think some people don't suit very loose hairstyles. I was just wondering what the reasoning for this is and how different face shapes effect the hairstyles that look best on you
    Thank you!

    So.... would you say that the thick human hair set would be good for dyeing? I have coppery red hair that is utterly impossible to find a decent match for in terms of extensions, so I would have to attempt to dye a set to match myself.

  • @SassyCatsArt

    I bought two sets of vp fashion tape in extensions and two of Zala. Zala was thicker and softer but did not last more than a month, like they tell you. Vp lasted three dyeing sessions and one bleach bath, for a good two and a half months. I bought a 7pc set of synthetic pink hair last summer from wish and they are still good. I have also tried a Sally’s beauty premium hair and synthetic, which were by far my best extensions. I had them for a year or so. I like having long hair, but the quality I received vs what a couple youtubers had shown for vp fashion and Zala was disappointing. I may test out clip ins from VP in the future, and see if there’s a difference.

    Hi, thx for this informative overview. I'm just discovering all the hair extension business, and wondering about which ones are most comfortable to wear all day, easiest to put on and conceal, and which cause least damage. Pros and cons of hidden wire halo, regular halo, clip ins, tape ins, and weaves. Thanks again.

    Do you have any advice for someone with naturally curly hair looking for extensions? I've kind of always figured extensions weren't an option for me because they wouldn't match my natural texture and because I don't know if I could curl them in such a way that they would look cohesive with my natural hair. 🤔

      The hair is sourced by grabbing a strand of hair from a stranger, then running away.
      Repeating this process thousands of times, harvesting hair from "basic" girls.
      I'll leave the ethics to you.
