It's the vibration of the machine that brings the worms up out of the dirt.
People forget there is so much more than the house. Day to day living, school, yard, buildings etc ..little by little it will be a beautiful home to live in years to come 😊
And they only do during weekends as they have full jobs ❤
Worms will come up to the surface in response to vibration. If you stand a knotty stick into the soil and rub another stick up and down, the worms will surface. Look at seagulls on a lawn and you'll often see them dancing on the grass - actually stamping their webbed feet to attract them up. Perhaps the worms think it is heavy rain...
I didn't know that, thanks for sharing! Very very heavy rain 😄
Look up fiddling worms. @@DeHoeveOldBelgianFarm
The reason they come to the surface is because the vibrations warn them of an impending thunderstorm and they come up to avoid drowning . A trick I often used as a child to get fishing bait!
That the same technic the seagulls uses when they stamp the grass, soil...to get their meals👌👍😉😉
They are visited by Inspector Annika Kitty at the end of this segment. Annika ensures the work is done satisfactorily!
Cannot wait to see those bulbs grow and bloom!! What a beautiful panorama you are creating in the garden!!! So much to do to make this dream come true!!! You will reap the rewards from your work for decades!!!❤
was the word "panorama" the word instead of pathetic?
@@kennethbolton951 oh my goodness yes!!! My fingers hit the suggested word on my iPhone screen!!! Thank you!!☺️
Planting trees, especially ones that bear fruit is a great idea. Can’t wait to see what bulbs appear in the spring. You can never be bored at your house; there is always something to do. Happy to see Anneke. Merry Christmas to you all!🎄
Are you aware of the fact that some sweet cherries are self-pollinating but most are not? In that case you would need a plant of the sour cherry ( _Prunus cerasus_ ) in the vicinity of the sweet cherry to get fruit. The 'kriek' (well known in Belgium; in the Netherlands we call them 'morel') is a sour cherry that you can use for that. Sour cherries (the fruit) are very good for making jam, so it's not wrong to have one.
I do understand why you waited to get the container. They can be expensive to rent . Everything is looking great .Your families hard work is truly paying off .
Great episode! The garden will be magnificent. Roof repairs on the barn will extend the service life for quite a while. Glad the supervisor cat was on the job. Cheers and happy holiday season!
I'm so excited to see what happens with the main house in the new year, but for now I wish you a blessed Christmas time, merry Christmas and a happy new year!
Thank you! Happy holidays to you too! May these days be filled with joy!
@@DeHoeveOldBelgianFarm Thanks a lot!! 🙂
Happy Holidays to you both, your son and daughter. Of course the cats, the cows. You have completed a lot of work since you first bought the vacant farm. Though the work has been endless, I can see Dehoeve coming back to life. Remembering the overgrown land, now the beginnings of a bountiful harvest, peaceful gardens, orchard, many, many afternoons surrounded by family and friends. Oh yes, there will be time to taste beer also. Greetings from Oregon, USA, a Sante!
Great to see you'll still have the wildflower meadow as it will bring in the pollinators for your little orchard. A beehive would be the perfect addition amongst the fruit trees xx
I hope that your approach works for the trees. Everything that I have read, and what I have done successfully many times, is to make the hole as deep as the root ball and twice as wide. Do NOT put organic matter underneath the root ball as it can leave voids as it decomposes, causing the roots to dry out and die. The roots always want good contact with soil. You asked"why not?". That's why. Other than that, every week you continue to impress me with all your accomplishments and growing skills.
It's very nice to see little fixes everywere/ cleaning gardening, well all of the things that make you progress and make you feel more at home
Can't wait to see the garden next year! I hope your family has a wonderful holiday.
Wonderful improvements are happening! I can’t wait for the Springtime!
Can't wait for spring. The place is looking like a future garden palace in the making.
I wish you and your family a peaceful Christmas. ❤
I wish my husband would watch this video a little hint??? Can’t wait to see more videos and thank you for sharing!❤
In future years consider widening paths so you can bring garden utility carts to all the planting beds.
It's so nice seeing Aniken and I'm so happy that she's still watching out for you guys. ❤️ ❤😊😊

I am anxious to see the spring flowering bulb display! Cheers All!
I enjoy your channel so much! You're doing such wonderful things with this property! It is a real home now.
Thank you so much! ☺ It's a great pleasure to read your kind words!
Awesome to have a fruit orchard 😎
Fall is the busiest time of the year getting plants bedded down. And cleaning up dead plants. Winter is the time for indoor work. Spring is joyful watching all your plants come alive. In summer you enjoy the fruits of your labor. Merry Christmas to all of you 🎄
There are always lots of chores to do on a farm, and it’s already looking so beautiful. Happy holidays to you all and looking forward to a wonderful new year.
Nice work! A couple of planting tips. As the garden waste to your hole decomposes it will take nitrogen from the soil, so in the future you may want to use a slow release fertilizer like Osmocote in the bottom of the hole to offset that. Also when planting in a heavy clay soil plant the trees a bit higher so the plants do not drown as water tends to run into the uncompacted holes - especially with the garden waste creating an air pocket. If you see your trees struggling you might want to raise them a bit. Finally mulch around the trees to keep the weeds down. Looking forward to seeing the fruit!
If you've been watching from the beginning and have seen his and Marina's success at gardening, including their other property, you can be assured he knows what he's doing...Gardening is one of his many talents.
Thank you for the time you gave us with our sweet fat cat Annika. ❤❤❤

Thank you being so generous as to continue sharing bits of your life with us. Happy Holidays!
You could put some of your leftover stones or bricks down in the walkway of the flower garden. Just an ideal.
An old adage in the US is: "The ideal time to plant a tree is now or ten years ago!" Best wishes for lots of healthy growth!
Ilya is doing very well with English! I applaud both of you for being multi-lingual! Oh, and the home work is amazing.
The vibration from the machine is what brings worms to the surface. This is how people catch worms to sell as bait for fishermen. Keep Smilin
Immer ein Stück weiter mit der Arbeit. Es ist noch viel zu tun für Euch. Aber mit eurer Ruhe klappt das schon. Es macht Euch Spaß, das sieht man. Schöne Feiertage der ganzen Familie.
The reason why the worms are called rain worms is because the rain makes vibrational sounds and they come up because otherwise they would drown in their earth homes. Blackbirds often use this effect by trip or scutteling (sorry if these words are incorrect) on the ground so the rain worms move in the ground and they can find or sense them. Maybe your vehicle caused this kind of vibration :))
Cool! I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing it here 🙌
Oh, the happy gardeners!😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤ So glad to see the sparkling eyes, the lilting voices and the boundless energy, Illya and Marina and two kids! The company sponsoring this video sounds great and useful. Bit too expensive for oldies like us in our late 70s because we have to care for daughter, her two teenagers and their dog, two cats until she recovers more from her self- made obstacles. She's trying and very needy, kids are not her priority. You guys, on your journey, light up some of our dark days with your projects, humor and resiliency. Thank you for sharing your hopes and dreams with us viewers and each other.❤
So sorry that your daughter gives you heartbreak. We can't "design" our children's life choices. I hope that the support and love you provide leads to happier times!
@helenvangeleuken6265 thank you. We hope and pray so, too.
So handy to have the digger. Perhaps the worms feel the vibrations of it. If you are hoping for birds to come, you may have to put a collar on your cat/s with tiny bells on them. Gives the birds a margin of safety. Cats are so clever and sneaky when it comes to the chase. That or high bird feeders on top of poles. It's good to get those odds jobs done too. Especially the trees and bulbs. They will be growing while you work.
Was joy to see you again and what you are going to do. Good luck.
Everything is looking good. You have a beautiful home, and many blessings to you and your family
Your garden space will look beautiful and will provide food for the family. What a joy! Wish your whole family a Blessed Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year🎄🎉🥳🍾🙁🙁🍻
I'm excited to see these little projects being done to make it he property more nice and beautiful.
Always enjoy watching the transformation.
May you have lots of joy, peace and happiness this holiday
Thanks for sharing can’t wait for you to start working on the main house again enjoy your holiday with family and friends
Next year is going to be so exciting!! Stay warm and happy Christmas, New Year's Eve and holidays!
I think it's very well thought out that you first created the basic conditions for the house itself and then that you can live well there on the building site and only then take care of the interior work. 😊The path, the fruit trees and the flower and vegetable beds are a lovely idea. And it's good that you're still taking care of the one roof, as it's supposed to get very stormy in the next few days (at least for me on the north-west German North Sea coast, but I think you'll get a good bit of wind too).
I wish you and your family (hopefully everyone is safe and well) a Merry Christmas and lots of health, happiness and lots of energy in the New Year!
You are smart to establish your garden while you are renovating. Once you move into the big house, it will be mature.
I love the layout.
Are you planning to plant a hedge around the garden, to provide a wind barrier for the vegetables?
Your path through the garden looks a bit narrow. It’s hard to tell online. Make sure you test run your wheelbarrow along it to see if it fits and can turn around corners. You’ll need it in the future to bring compost to the vegetable beds.
After a heavy rain yesterday, worms were all over a parking lot I was at. The temperature changed from freezing to 50 degrees F overnight. I think the worms were confused. I remember as a child, walking to school in Springtime, after the first spring rain, and seeing SO many worms on the sidewalk!
No one else can tell you what you need to be doing, or when. You live there, and you know what needs to be done, when it can be done, and whether you're able to tackle a job at any given moment. If, suddenly, you become more superhuman than you have already been, and finish everything, then the journey is over for us. The longer it takes, the longer we get to enjoy your company, and see your marvelous ingenuity (not to mention the magic trio of George, Gandalf, and Anneke). I know I'm not alone in saying how much I look forward to your videos every week!
Thank you for inviting us to share some of your experiences, trials, and tribulations. I look forward to next year. Narragansett Bay
Just think maybe you’ll be in your new home finally next holiday season! 🌲
It is so special harvesting your own fruit we have just harvested cherries(Aust). The property looks a treat.
You have an incredibly resistant mentality. You will not be defeated. I would have been in despair with that roof, but your quick-fix is of course absolutely adequate for a while. I hope several years. Respect.
I look forward to your garden developing alongside your building next year. Looking good in anticipation. Thank you for sharing. 🙏💛🙂✨🎄🎄
Nice work! The farm is taking shape! 🥂
I wish you both a very happy Christmas and a safe and prosperous ew Year.
youre garden will look great whit all the trees; Renovating is a hard work, doing it myself for the past 3 years, Still one year to go.You will get there too and then drink some Belgian beer and look and enjoy your achievements.
Love it!! Illa Looks like a big kid driving a toy machine. Too Cute!! Drain pipe good Idea. OH no!! I would hate to see you lose the old barn!! That is one of the best parts of the history of the farm!! For all those kinda new to the channel, go back a few years to the filming of the inside of the barn. The way they built it is amazing.! I do hope she can glass off the wall one day to save it!!
😊 thank you
Illia in the little tractor made me think of those children's picture books where the little humble worker machine saved the day through its persistent, hard work!
@@helenvangeleuken6265 LOL, indeed
I hope that you will be harvesting tasty fruits in your orchard before long. I had a pear tree years ago and a friend has an apple tree. There is nothing better than picking your own fruit.
Your garden will be BEAUTIFUL!!!
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!
Oh I'm looking forward to the bulb plants blooming! It will be a wonderful quick start to bees looking for pollen.
Thanks for posting and sharing. Glad to see there was assistance provided by daughter (?) to help with the yard cleanup. Good to see the barn roof quick fix done well.
I really think you should not put grass or plant material under the roots of your trees. Put it on top and around .like in nature. Love your channel, you are doing real progress .
Marina and Illia, I am wishing you and your beautiful family a joyful and blessed Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year ❣️ 🙏🏻🎄 I look forward to watching all of the changes you will make to the farmhouse and especially the garden where you planted the new trees and flowers.💐
Garden will be beautiful but path? can't stroll with your sweetheart side by side sipping a glass of beer. Vibration of the ground by your mini excavator will make the worms surface. That's good you can relocate some worms to your raised beds. Good you were able to repair barn roof. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
10:13 : 'potato stone'. My Mom found a stone like that once, cleaned it thoroughly and put some clear varnish on it.
Result was a very nice haptic stone. Recommended.
For proper pollination you need a 2nd cherry tree.
Very good repair to barn roof ✅
The paths, fruit trees and flowers going to be awesome ✅
Hope that Anneke and George can be friends...🙏💛👍🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿
I can't help but feel a little sorry for Anneke, she was queen of the farm having given her heart and trust to the family, only to be usurped by the handsome little prince George. Hopefully she can still retain an area where she can feel safe and reign supreme. ❤😿
Worms think that it's raining outside because of vibration and leave their tunnels. We used to dig out worms for fishing this way: put a shovel into the ground and knock on it and five minutes later gather them. Probably not the fastest way but if the soil is too compacted it could be easier then digging. Also this feature is used by seagulls: they stamp the ground to get some worms
A proper hard working wife from the Ukraine, your husband is a lucky man , I wish you both a merry Christmas, and a great Life that you have built as a team
Thank you for suggesting that we contact Incongni. I did it and look forward to receiving less spam. I also appreciate that you keep your children's faces either at a distance or not easy to see. They too need privacy--a kind you parents are willing to sacrifice a little in order to share your lives with us. But I am pleased whenever I see (at a distance) that your daughter is helping. This is a family activity. But I rarely see your son helping. I am not being critical. I just know that my father and mother remodeled our home when I was 12 years old, and then our father converted a railway passenger coach into a small duplex; and it was a great delight for me and my younger brother to help with those projects. Working alongside our dad is one of the greatest memories I have of our family, and I hope that your children will have that same joy. God bless your family this Christmas season.
Happy Holidays to the entire family and a Happy New Year. Thank you for sharing. 🎄
Happy holidays to you too! 🤗
You are such hard workers.
Is your pond close to your garden area?
Looking forward to all the new projects to come.
Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year! 🇨🇦🎄🥂
Helpful tip: put as much weight as possible at the front of the wheelbarrow, it will run much easier. Keep it up, great channel!
How lovely to see all the jobs completed. Thankyou for your great content 2023 and have a peaceful and happy holiday season. See you next year.
Les poiriers il faut qu'il soit plusieurs pour donner des fruits généralement (pollinisation). Cordialement.
It's the vibration that makes the worms come out.
Worms get out of the soil because the vibration makes them feel like it's raining, and as they don't like water and are scared to die they come out. Some birds do jump on the ground to make it feel like rain, and they have a free and easy meal 😉
Come the Spring it will look Lovely!! 👏👏👏👏👏🌺🌹

Όμορφες ευχές Όμορφες γιορτές να έχετε με αγάπη χαμόγελα υγεία!!!!!!
la casa grande... ánimo, a por ella.
15:30 : for the path I can highly recommend using either woodchips or barkchips.
Best is to dig a very shallow trench - few centimeters - and then fill it with chips.
Very nice to walk on, and great advantage is the path will never get slippery regardless the weather.
It's natural so will decompose very slowly.
Don't buy from the garden shop but contact a firm that does tree management.
Happy Holidays to you both and your families! 🌲 🌲
Happy Christmas to you both, your family, the building inspector and Belgium 🎄
Make sure to get the moss of your carport roof a d it will last longer.
There is a spray that you can apply, that prevents the moss from growing back.
Shchaslyvoho Rizdva! Thanks for all the wonderful videos. Love from South Africa 🇿🇦 xx
What an exciting growing season you can look forward to in the coming spring. Those bulbs you planted along the garden path will be magnificent, and each year they will increase in number until you have an absolute carpet of lovely flowers.Spring on many of the the farms in NewZealand has a literal field of daffodils spreading out from the handful of bulbs the farmer’s wife had planted many many years ago.your fruit trees too will be a delight. You have so very much to do ,it is easy to see while many children in a family could be seen as good thing when they would become very helpful as they grew. Now there are tractors and clever machinery to help, but still it is a busy life.Thank you for your inspiring video.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas to you and your family. I enjoy watching the progress of your farm house and “other” projects you have on going. 👍🥰🥂🎄

I live in Maine, the pine tree state, so the idea of planting pinecones is a little startling to me, lol. They grow like weeds around my summer place, and I’m always pulling them up by the roots! Still, your pines look like a different species, so good luck growing them to your satisfaction.😊 👍👍
