      It’s still beyond me how did that book ever broke out of this country. Believe me or not, but Lipińska isn’t actually the first one to try making „the Polish 50 Shades”, we had a couple of aspiring smut writers here for a while but their books were mostly harmless smut, hardly anyone knew about them. Yet out of all of those the one to actually reach international popularity is the most toxic and ignorant, from a woman who dares to call herself a „feminist” and claim that she doesn’t see any sexual assaults in her book.

    This title gets incredibly worse when one gets to read interviews with the author. She called herself a "modern-day feminist" that fights for the sexual independence of women. Because, of course, all women want is non-consensual, forceful sex - it is what truly frees them. She actually believes that by writing this crap she fights for women's rights. Also, at the same time, she believes that it is a man's job to provide money and a woman's job to not work, look pretty, and be adorned by gifts. So, very feminist approach indeed.
    One should also talk about the absolute narcissism of the author and how she projects on the main character. After the makeover, Laura looks exactly like Blanka Lipinska. Additionally, she actually put herself on the cover of the second book.

      The problem with fiction likes this and many many many many many others is that it paints the wrong picture, it doesn't show that in reality it's not a choice between either an abusive partner that gives you the rough sex you like or a kind partner that's just vanilla but that you can actually mix and match. Translator here. I have translated books of similar caliber, and to tell the truth... there is a point when you just give up, when you just stop caring. At the beginning, you actually try to make the text better. I have actually kinda reworked some scenes, where the original author just couldn't where the characters' hands were "from shot to shot." But then there is a point where you just can't care anymore and want to get through it as soon as possible. Back in... 2012ish, when Fifty Shades came out in my country, the quality of the trabslation actually caused a scandal (and an unbelievable amount of memes), because the guy just couldn't care, and the text had stuff like "Lion King" (like the Hungarian title of the movie) instead of Kings of Leon (I've seen in webshops that they have published a new translation ever since).
    Plus I've heard about a practice employed by publishers (okay, I know of one publisher who did that) who deal with these kinds of novels (like, low-quality novels for entertainment): basically, they break the book into chapters, and send the individual chapters out to people who are applying for translation jobs as a test to see what they can do. Then when they have all the chapters (free!), they just have one person comb it together so to say

A guy who breaks up with his girlfriend because he can finally kidnap the woman he's obsessed with, then makes the kidnap victim he's trying to court watch him with another woman? That's a keeper. ‚Fun’ fact: in the original Laura doesn’t call him „man in black”, she just calls him „czarny”, which is literally „black” as an adjective. It’s so uncomfortable to read because in Poland „czarny” said in a harmful manner is basically the N-word. I was honestly intrigued how in the world would they translate it to English so it makes sense and I gotta admit, „man in black” sounds a lot better.
    By the way, a little spoiler: later in the series a second important guy shows up who’s only special trait is that he has a lot of tatoos. And just as Massimo was „black”, the other guy was just described as „c o l o r f u l” for the rest of the series.
    I honestly feel bad for anyone who had to work on the translation. This book is an illiterate mess even in Polish, translating something that already doesn’t make sense must be a nightmare.

    • @tto198
      @tto198 3 роки тому +43

      Woah. I thought it might be Laura's way of saying he looked like a "tall, dark, and handsome" or "dark and brooding" romantic male lead, but that doesn't sound like it fits with the translation.

      @NyanCat-wie-gdzie-mieszkasz 3 роки тому +49

      @@tto198 Yeah, honestly, I dig the translation more. The original version sounds as if Lipińska didn’t get anything proofread, like there was no editor work done, which makes it feel even more like a Wattpad fanfiction. She can’t even really be called a writer, she wrote 365 on a whim. Translation actually makes it look more like a book because somebody cared for it to sound good. There’s literally nothing romantic about the original, not even in the language used.

I bet there are a lot of pro catholic people out there demanding Lipińska's head and all, but we don't censor books. This is against the constitution and freedom of speech and if the government did that, they would straight up admit that they want to control all media. Though the ruling party is so effed up I wouldn't be surprised if they started doing something like that. But the first victim would be any LGBTQ content and not actually harmful smut written by a very toxic person. Not to mention it's still a Polish book that gained international popularity. Edward stops acting like she's fragile once she's become a vampire. And tbh i always thought Bella's love for Edward came from feeling like she was born to be a vampire. It's her feeling misfit as a human is what drives her obsession and the fact that teenage romance is supposed to feel all encompassing and intense. I found out that my mom willingly, happily read this book and watched the movie all fangirl like. I LOST it on her. She normally never reads. I was so desperate to show her that this book is trash I even gave her a list of other (better and not offensive) erotica in case that was the reason she liked it. It was, and she has gone through all 25 books that I recommended less than a week ago. Oh she is now asking for more recommendations. Ew, but hey at least she's reading. I think I might use this situation to "accidentally" hint that I'm bi. Oops sorry mom that's one of mine. Cause I'm a chicken and my mom can be mean.

      The Ruthless People and Vicious Minds series (or anything really) by J J McAvoy for starters. Then Feral Sins, and Burn, ,By Suzan Wright. Finally, Once Burned, and Twice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost. That should get you started lol. They all have strong female leads!

    In a roundabout way 365 Days was inspired by the 9/11 terror attacks.
    1 - Gerard Way (of My Chemical Romance) is inspired to start the band after witnessing the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers.
    2 - Stephanie Meyers uses MCR music as fuel and inspiration to help her write Twilight.
    3 - E.L. James begins to write a fan fic directly inspired by the Twilight series. The fan fic is titled '50 Shades of Grey'.
    4 - 50 Shades of Grey goes on to inspire 365 Days.

    I read this book in Polish, for me movie was less harmful. Laura's thoughts only make things worse.They are treating sex as a form of prize or punishment and that's so wrong in so many ways.

    I’m beginning to reevaluate my stories, I should stop investing all this time on world-building, character development, intertwining plots and POV etc and just make badly written cheap smut instead that will be converted into a film.
    That’s the dream baby!!!

      Well, I actually saw a video about one Polish guy, who was elected into European parliament, and he is the one that believes all women are inferior and said he would be ok if his daughter was r....ed... Yeah, I think that is worse than the 365 book. Polish politicians seem to be crazy, although not for me to speak about it, since I am from Russia, and here the situation is no better

    The birth control implant part is a big plot hole! As someone who has one I will fully testify that the first 3 days you’re supposed to keep a waterproof bandage on and there’s swelling, bleeding and bruised up. It’s really sore and it takes at least 2 weeks for the very intense bruising to go away. And you can actually feel it in your arm. Someone that showers thoroughly and moisturizes would never miss it because it’s literally under the first layer of your skin. Wild that someone made something a kind of big part of the plot just to not research it even a little bit.

      It wasn't a birth control implant...he lied. It was a tracking device but you would only know that if you actually read the book.
