Contrary to this review, Genesis GV80 has ambient lighting. I bought my GV80 Advance, 3.5T, AWD, Asiatic Blue, $4,000 over MRSP in May this year. Three of us were checking out the car at the same time! Absolutely no regrets. Very comfortable and gorgeous dame. I am deliriously happy with my purchase😝 I would pick the GV80 over the MDX in a heartbeat. Maybe when the Model S arrives, that may change. But for now, GV80 all the way. I haven't found one owner who does not looooove his/her car. No comparison, for me.

@@JokiBroki better interior quality more powerful engine overall chassis structure is better too. But I’d say stay away from genesis. A lot of companies are having to drop seemingly random items due to the chip shortage, it’s possible that they simply aren’t able to offer that option/spec anymore.
Yeah I agree, I have a Genesis but it's a 2015 Hyundai Genesis . And even back then this car drives better and is much more insulated from road and highway noise than a more expensive Cadillac, BMW and so on. After all these years I still absolutely love this car. Now my neighbor has the GV80 and came from a Benz SUV. He said there are some things about the Benz he likes more, but the overall package is far better in the Genesis. He said his Benz was 2 years older than the GV80 and even though they were about the same size he still paid 11k more for the Benz and it wasn't as luxurious. My Genesis has a lot more plastics, not that really cheap scratchy crap, but still way more than I would like. Well Genesis fixed that let me tell you. We paid around 75k for my wife's 2021 expedition. And I can tell you now stepping into and driving my neighbors GV80 you would think he paid around 20k more, he didn't. He actually paid around 4k less than we did. The wife loves that Big beast but man it feels all around cheap in comparison. The cabin is far superior more quiet from road noise in the GV80. Acceleration is much better, handling is way more dialed in. Our Expedition has far to much Body roll. And then you have all that cheap hard touch plastic in the Ford where as his GV80 is soft touch everywhere. Just an outright beautiful vehicle Genesis has brought to the table, I'm impressed!
"Right off the bat," Joe you are the best car reviewer ever! Your presentations are clear, to-the-point, entertaining and informative! With a bit of brand history, while comparing the car at hand to other cars in its class, you've found the winning formula for car review on UA-cam!
*Thank you for the wonderful review. I just found the Genesis GV80 3.5T Prestige last week and bought it after driving it. Picking it up today, can't wait. It is a awesome vehicle.*
The GV80 outclasses the MDX in terms of interior look and layout. While it may not drive as well as the Type-S, I know I'll enjoy being in the GV80 more. And if Genesis decides to add a GV80 Sport with blacked out or dark chrome trim and improved handling, I would still prefer it.
The GV80 has some major advantages to me. The longitudinal mount engine is a better design overall for towing and torque steer. Two small turbos has less turbo lag than one larger one. The GV80 also has a port fuel injector plus direct fuel injection system which helps greatly with carbon build up on the intake valves. I purchased this same vehicle, same color combo but in the advance+ model. This engine is pretty developed being basically the same as in the Stinger which tuners have pushed hard without failures from what I have seen. After 7000 miles it is a dream machine! No regrets.
My big issue: the Genesis dealerships are usually joined with a Hyundai dealership. The sales people simply don't know how to give customer service like a premium car company. You are paying for their top of the line car but paired with a person who sells $19,000 cars across the parking lot all day. Not great. I also wonder about how you are treated after the sale during service trips.
I have to agree with you. For this reason when we purchased our GV80 we travelled to a major city two hours away with a dedicated Genesis dealership, because we had had less than stellar experience with our local Hyundai who seemed have added a Genesis vehicles as a side “gig.” The staff did not up their game accordingly.

Oh and Im 6’4” tall and I had plenty of room which is why I love my Elantra coupé.
Everyone seems to miss addressing the elephant in the room .... service after the purchase ... I went to purchase one to only find out the Genesis GV80 can ONLY be serviced by a Genesis dealer wether in warranty or out of warranty. I was told if you break down and there is no dealer near where you are the GV80 MUST be towed to the nearest dealer (too few servicing dealers to make this a viable choice)... at your expense. After the warranty you still have to go a Genesis dealer as they are the only ones that have the diagnostic tools ... I was told point blank .... no Hyundai dealer can service the GV80. So if you buy one from a dealer don't even think about traveling any distance, unless your destination has a Genesis dealer, with it as you could get stuck with no way to get service.
You are exactly right, but name any luxury cars that honor their warranty at other dealerships. Luxury dealerships are only in zip codes that have the median income to support them. People who can afford a luxury vehicle typically live in reasonable proximity to the dealership unless the vehicle is “exotic” (>$250k) and if you can afford a car at that level you don’t need to worry about a warranty.
Any Hyundai dealer will service it...lots of those around! In fact, we don't have a Genesis service centre in this province...we have to go to Hyundai...who services GV80s.
The GV80 and MDX Type S are playing different games though. This is far more luxurious and classic good looks, while the Acura is far sportier in design, drive and interior. You can't go wrong with either though. It all depends on what you want or prioritize.
Having shopped both MDX and GV80. I understand doing a comparison with the MDX, but the Genesis is on a whole other level and better competes with BMW and Mercedes for thousands less but without the German pedigree.
The Genesis brand is actually managed and designed by veterans of luxury and performance cars, including the Germans Their executives are literally ex-executives of Lamborghini, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Bentley and Corvette The pedigree literally cant get any higher than that
10:42.. Joe Acura doesn't offer Mark Levinson. It's ELS Studio 3D audio system which is better than both mentioned. Great review tho and btw i take the MDX Type S any day any time !
I saw one today. When I saw it in my side mirror I said oh hell nice Bentley! It passed me and I saw it said genesis.... my mind is still blown! Beautiful machine in person.
For me Genesis is luxury focused while Acura is sport focused, so it all depends on what you’re looking for. I like both but if I was driving I would go with the MDX for the sporty styling, interior, and driving dynamics. However if I was being driven I’d want to be cursing in the plushness of the GV80.
mdx does nt allow full use of screen for Navi and difficult to use to find new location s and no touchscreen???why not add ii???? cheap manufacturer after money and they took away leather seats on base
@@ricric8348 they use to have touch screens and people complained so they went away from them and people are still complaining. It’s not cheap I’m sure they’ll make it a touch screen in the future. Most luxury brands don’t offer real leather on base models. Some luxury brands don’t offer real leather at all and only leatherette.
@@AFCompany I've had 3 MDX touch screen on a computer is usually a 100$ option. all reviews give it a thumbs down for not having it. Luxury usually equates to leather rather than plastic based synthetics
@@ricric8348 I know and Acura was one brand that was only offering real leather while most were not. Now they have it on upper trims and not base models while brands like Mercedes don’t use real leather at all. Don’t act like it’s an Acura issue when it’s pretty standard across the board.
Raiti, one again an awesome review. Just so you know, you can change the color of the car on the cluster for parking to match the actual car you are driving. The standard display is white, however, you can change it to the adriatic blue GV80 you are reviewing. No longer a zonk :o).
@@rahimi4762 I never said it wasn’t, however the Genesis’s interior does look a bit more luxurious than the Acura’s. Overall, I prefer the Acura but the Genesis isn’t a bad product.
@@limitedreach4446 true, the Genesis isn’t bad and it’s a tad bit more luxurious than the Acura but that MDX Type S will be something special, air suspension, massaging seats and it will probably be quicker than the GV80 as well because the MDX is a lightweight compared to its competitors
@@drivescene6747 Yeah, I’m a sucker for almost anything Honda/Acura makes. They killed it with this new MDX, it’s my favorite out of the lineup at the moment. In person it has a lot of road presence, it’s gorgeous!
@@limitedreach4446 I agree with you on that. It has such a killer road presence and looks beastly in ASpec trim. I’m really anticipating the RDX Type S for next Gen now that will be epic as the 2.0r RDX is already a freaking riot to drive.
Enjoy the content. I have an idea for you Joe. With the chip shortage and low inventory dealers are marking up their cars, trucks, suvs. How about you tell us if and what the dealer mark up is on new vehicles now? That would be of great use to wanna be buyers. Thanks. 👍🏻
I've been watching the listed online prices listed at about 7 dealers around the Nashville area (meaning Nashville, Memphis, Huntsville, Atlanta, Louisville, etc). There's been some increase but it's not consistent - some seem to increase, some don't.

I'm a fan of Acura (especially the older models) but no question, I'd take the GV80 over the MDX Type-S in a heartbeat. Styling, tech, warranty, ride etc... Heck, looks like a better looking Bentley so I'd take it on looks alone.
Joe it does have ambient lighting has all the colors plus custom color u change how u want it and changes in the whole interior I know cause I put the red color for my dad rite now lol

@@RaitisRides Also, thanks to your review I told my dealer at Sunrise Ford in North Hollywood you and Lori was the reason she got an Edge today. I am undecided between the Genesis GV80 and the Atlas R-line
Genesis is SUCH A BETTER looking car. Especially at the price point… More power, better looks (besides that chrome strip on the side) I can deal with the not so sexy steering wheel for a better vehicle. I just feel people will choose the Type S badge just for sake. I’m a smart buyer and will buy the 80 next year 🙌 Great video comparison
I like Genesis sedans much more than their SUVs, but it is a very nice car. I only wish they offered a blacked-out package on their cars, it would make them look really cool.
The car is nice but as you pointed out they definitely need the sport+ option, dark chrome exterior and a better steering wheel because the current one is just way too outdated. They could definitely use some ambient lighting like the Mercedes. If I had to pick an suv I’d go with the Acura MDX type S because even if less hp that car looks way better on the exterior and the exhaust are way better looking on the Acura. Lastly the Genesis infotainment system imo it’s going to be way better than Acura. The safety feature will also win for the Genesis.
I think that this is the most beautiful SUV at this time. For me even better looking then the Bentayga. (Also the G80 the most gorgeous designed limousine). And in this maritime color combo it looks like a yacht on wheels. I would wish a 500 hp V8 in this beauty. Respect to Genesis for their new cars & philosophy.
I've seen a few GV70 and GV80's on the road in-person! Haha...it's like seeing mythological creature. I'm like..."they do exist!". Lol...they look good in vids, but even better in person. :)
Maybe you should have reminded viewers that the designers that made the Bentley design work for Genesis now. I just got my GV80 and I cannot tell you how happy I am. I like Acura too, but if you've never sat in a Genesis GV80, do it. It's a mind changer.
Genesis is very nice and twin turbo motor a beast.but little too flashy exterior too much plastic chrome, the interior looks sick except the steering wheel looks like a Chrysler steering wheel.
Can’t wait to see Joe drive the MDX Type-S and issue a revised comparison of these two. My guess is the MDX will prove to be much more fun to drive (more sport vs luxury). Based on this video, I didn’t hear any “wow” factor from Joe. (No Sport Plus mode)

Just did a GV80 test drive today. WOW...it's a beauty with power. Just felt access to third row is tight but should not be a big issue for the kids.
Do you think getting one with that third row would be too much ?
The GV80 and MDX Type S are playing different games though. This is far more luxurious and classic good looks, while the Acura is far sportier in design, drive and interior. You can't go wrong with either though. It all depends on what you want or prioritize.
I guess it just depends if you want two scoops of luxury or sport.
Having shopped both MDX and GV80. I understand doing a comparison with the MDX, but the Genesis is on a whole other level and better competes with BMW and Mercedes for thousands less but without the German pedigree.
Thanks for sharing your input from your experience!
The Genesis brand is actually managed and designed by veterans of luxury and performance cars, including the Germans
Their executives are literally ex-executives of Lamborghini, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Bentley and Corvette
The pedigree literally cant get any higher than that
Which do u prefer? Reliability, holding its value? I'm in same situation. Deciding between 22 MDX and GV80
Thankyou Raiti's for this new Genesis video love too see this Thankyou!! Have a nice weekend!!!
This car is great for what it is, to get this level of luxury inside you have to spend 80-90k+ for a German competitor so it’s a great bargain!
Thank you! Been seriously considering the Acura Type S. Definitely a hot car!
10:42.. Joe Acura doesn't offer Mark Levinson. It's ELS Studio 3D audio system which is better than both mentioned. Great review tho and btw i take the MDX Type S any day any time !
@Угон Харлеев Nice joke
@Угон Харлеев LMAO. Be safe 👍
@Угон Харлеев why?
You mentioned no ambient lighting but there’s ambient lighting throughout the vehicle including the doors and the dash in just about any color.
I meant to say color changing ambient light!
@@RaitisRides but there is also color changing ambient lighting.
Is the GV80 reliable like Acura/Lexus?
Hi Joe! Love this GV80 and I think this is my favorite SUV. My question is, what's happen if every car was pure perfection without a flaw?
I think the GV80 does have ambient lighting I love this SUV thinking about getting one for my birthday this year
I saw one today. When I saw it in my side mirror I said oh hell nice Bentley! It passed me and I saw it said genesis.... my mind is still blown! Beautiful machine in person.
i love my gv70 overbite! In fact my GV70 has won Motor Trend Car of the year for 2022 - overbite and all. Genesis is killing it!!!!
For me Genesis is luxury focused while Acura is sport focused, so it all depends on what you’re looking for. I like both but if I was driving I would go with the MDX for the sporty styling, interior, and driving dynamics. However if I was being driven I’d want to be cursing in the plushness of the GV80.
Thanks for sharing that great insight!
mdx does nt allow full use of screen for Navi and difficult to use to find new location s and no touchscreen???why not add ii???? cheap manufacturer after money and they took away leather seats on base
Reliability, Reliability, Reliability, Reliability
Honda has a Proven track record when it comes to reliability
I own an Acura. And this Genesis will be my Next car for sure!!
Thank u 4 the view & comp. 2 the mdx type s...great pic by Lori 😉
Raiti, one again an awesome review. Just so you know, you can change the color of the car on the cluster for parking to match the actual car you are driving. The standard display is white, however, you can change it to the adriatic blue GV80 you are reviewing. No longer a zonk :o).
This still one of a good SUV's for me to buy.
Awesome job with your videos anyway dude!
@9:45 seconds. Hey joe this model is the amazingggggg fully loaded, prestige version, at $72K MSRP. The advance trim is the $66,700 version.
The greatest luxurious suv from the Asian premium brands imo very elegant too!
I’m so glad that you like this one!
I like all of the chrome accents. Not a fan of the blackout look on most vehicles. I also like the lines and good looks of this one.
Excellent review Joe, that is what I call a premium interior!
I would go with the MDX Type S just because of it’s driving experience and looks but the interior of this is gorgeous.
MDX interior gorgeous too
@@rahimi4762 I never said it wasn’t, however the Genesis’s interior does look a bit more luxurious than the Acura’s.
I’ve driven it and it’s quick for what it is, luxurious, fun to drive and pretty solid. Better than the previous MDX in just about every way. I’m really anticipating the RDX Type S for next Gen now that will be epic as the 2.0r RDX is already a freaking riot to drive.
Beautiful SUV and amazing review Joe! I would love to see Genesis' take on a larger SUV especially now that the LX 600 has been redesigned
I am so glad that you like this one.
I was saying the same, a GV90 suv that would be awesome
Enjoy the content. I have an idea for you Joe. With the chip shortage and low inventory dealers are marking up their cars, trucks, suvs. How about you tell us if and what the dealer mark up is on new vehicles now? That would be of great use to wanna be buyers. Thanks. 👍🏻
That is a fantastic idea!
I went to test drive the GV80 at a dealership in Arkansas. 9K over MSRP and that was for the 2.5.
I've been watching the listed online prices listed at about 7 dealers around the Nashville area (meaning Nashville, Memphis, Huntsville, Atlanta, Louisville, etc). There's been some increase but it's not consistent - some seem to increase, some don't.
Bought my GV80 Advance, 3.5T, AWD, Asiatic Blue, $4,000 over MRSP in May this year. Three of us were checking out the car at the same time!!! Absolutely no regrets. Very comfortable and gorgeous dame. I am deliriously happy with my purchase😝 Contrary to this review though, car has ambient lighting, changeable to different colors.
I love the interior. Quilted seats is very fancy. The car in white would look amazing
Saw one in white and it was gorgeous.
I dig it. But, I agree with you in the steering wheel and sport plus. Easy to fix!
"Easy Peezy, squeek, squeek, Lemmon Squeezy" ...Love it!
Thanks brother!
This Genesis would look great with the apex blue color.
Everyone has an agreement about the MDX think like the styling of Genesis better but the MDX is better though for one thing with styling like the Genesis looking for something nicer get the MDX.
My only zonk is where’s the wood trim on the dash?! Otherwise looks phenomenal
Would like the open vehicle door zone of Illumination to prevent open vehicle door collisions and fatalities.
Just got this 2 weeks ago and it is awesome
Besides the AMG SUV’s this is one of the best looking out there imo
I’m so goad that you are digging this one!
Joe, agree with you on the steering wheel. Showstopper for me. Good review in the rain.
A couple days ago was the first time I seen one on the street. I was like WTF is that? I thought it was a Bentley at first.
I'm a fan of Acura (especially the older models) but no question, I'd take the GV80 over the MDX Type-S in a heartbeat. Styling, tech, warranty, ride etc... Heck, looks like a better looking Bentley so I'd take it on looks alone.
Gv70/G70 sporty and Gv80/G80 luxury, that simple
Very cool way of putting it!
dude i have leased at least 10 genesis. s , i just bought my wife a gv70 awesome is all i can say
You must have alot of money
@@fakedazzleful dude leasing is the way to go and have a good honest dealer
@@fakedazzleful Do well in school and you can achieve similar goals
Hey Joe, on the back up camera you can actually change the color of the vehicle to any color you’d like.
Joe it does have ambient lighting has all the colors plus custom color u change how u want it and changes in the whole interior I know cause I put the red color for my dad rite now lol
Like the exterior on this girl better than the MDX but I'm going to quit asking you which your fave SUV is..clearly it's the MDX🥳 Thank you again for your awesome and extremely helpful reviews!
I am all for the GV80 2022. I am looking forward that review. When I get my car it will be the GV80!
Saw this vehicle on the highway this weekend. Sharp looking vehicle!
You have to give it to Hyundai,Kia and genesis they are doing awesome
True. But I'm a lexus guy cause I'm old so...
They recalled massive vehicles
@@rahimi4762 Honda just recalled their whole entire lineup. What's your point.
@@rahimi4762 okay spammer
I like this suv! Love the blue color.
Wonderful review and Lori’s camera work is exceptional! I love this SUV wins over the MDX!
LOL! No. 🤣
Thanks for being so awesome!
@@RaitisRides Also, thanks to your review I told my dealer at Sunrise Ford in North Hollywood you and Lori was the reason she got an Edge today. I am undecided between the Genesis GV80 and the Atlas R-line
@@Asiansxsymbol Lol YES!!! 🤣
Stunning interior. Tasteful and simply beautiful.
I like Genesis sedans much more than their SUVs, but it is a very nice car. I only wish they offered a blacked-out package on their cars, it would make them look really cool.
I love the steering wheel. It's one of my favorite steering wheels of all cars.
Agree 100%
The car is nice but as you pointed out they definitely need the sport+ option, dark chrome exterior and a better steering wheel because the current one is just way too outdated. They could definitely use some ambient lighting like the Mercedes.
If I had to pick an suv I’d go with the Acura MDX type S because even if less hp that car looks way better on the exterior and the exhaust are way better looking on the Acura.
Lastly the Genesis infotainment system imo it’s going to be way better than Acura. The safety feature will also win for the Genesis.
The MDX Type S is hard to beat.
Lol
It’s been beaten
Acura uses ELS and Lexus uses Mark Levinson.
Whatz better?
@@fakedazzleful my opinion, ELS studio.
@@fakedazzleful els is waaaaaay better
I think that this is the most beautiful SUV at this time. For me even better looking then the Bentayga. (Also the G80 the most gorgeous designed limousine).
And in this maritime color combo it looks like a yacht on wheels. I would wish a 500 hp V8 in this beauty. Respect to Genesis for their new cars & philosophy.
Not hard to get 475hp just add a JB4 module which is easy and you are there.
Beautiful vehicle. It definitely has ambient lighting and you can turn 3D off for more clarity
This is an elegant looking car. I'm not a fan of the two tone interior, but it looks attractive inside and appears to ride well.
Excellent review Joe. This is a nice car and you presented it well.
I love it my boy Joe keep up the work and I love the video lot real true 👍 💯💯💯💯💯
Personally, I'd take an MDX over this but it definitely is beautiful
Saw one just like this today. It's stunning.
That's a damn good suv
I’m so glad that I could bring it to you Paul!
you can change the color to blue in the settings
The GV80 is nice and luxurious but I like the sportier Acura better. Thanks for the great review Joe and of course, Lori’s great work as well! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
if you see gv80 in person it looks like it's 2 tier above MDX.
The mdx type s?
@@joec.5009 yeah well, it'll be in the shop more
@@joec.5009 no it don’t. Just stop
@@rahimi4762 there is nothing in acura line up that matches with any models in genesis. it's a complete mismatch to me.
I've seen a few GV70 and GV80's on the road in-person! Haha...it's like seeing mythological creature. I'm like..."they do exist!". Lol...they look good in vids, but even better in person. :)
Exactly! Only 3 people in the surrounding neighborhoods have them near me
The MDX has too much piano black and no touch screen. I would like to test drive this car.
Same comment as I made on the MDX type S; the info center looks like an afterthought.
This is a very good point!
The fact that this thing has power heated and cooled REAR seats for 66k is insane.
You can get those features with a fully loaded hyundai sedan for under 30k lol
My 2013 Hyundai Azera have cooled rear seat and heated seat too fully loaded
the only thing i am missing on this is a black trim, but it is a stunning car nontheless.
Just absolutely gorgeous
I am glad that you like this one.
Same here. I'm waiting to hear Joe's thoughts on how the Acura MDX Type-S drives.
1:43 No more "right off the bat" ?
Genesis is a beauty but I'll take the MDX anytime
I like the way that you think!
That grill has more acreage than the Long Island house I grew up in!!😂😂
The grill needs to be gold.. Superfly's pimp mobile.
