- The term "hypersonic speed" refers to any speed greater than Mach 5, or five times the speed of sound.
A “hypersonic”weapon needs to be faster than Mach 5 and must be able to make maneuvers (both vertical and horizontal) while traveling at this speed inside the atmosphere.
The fact that these next-generation hypersonic weapons are difficult to defend against due to their speed, maneuverability, and hard to predict flight path is the primary reason nations are developing them.
These next generation missiles with conventional, non-nuclear warheads are most effective against high-value targets like aircraft carriers.
Kinzhal is an aeroballistic system. This means that after being dropped from an aircraft, it accelerates to hypersonic speed using a rocket and then follows a ballistic trajectory.
The DF-ZF, previously known as the Wu-14 as a prototype, is a hypersonic glide vehicle under development for use by the People’s Liberation Army Rocket Forces.
AGM-183A Air-launched Rapid Response Weapon, or ARRW ("Arrow"), is expected to be the US military's first operational hypersonic weapon.
The Zircon is a scramjet-powered hypersonic cruise missile. Unlike hypersonic glide weapons, hypersonic cruise missiles rely on cooled supersonic combustion ramjet engines, which use the flow of air at supersonic speeds, compressed by the forward motion of the missile, to drive combustion.

Looking for a missile that has an insane flight pattern and still able to hit the target, I've tried looking up scatter missile but no luck, I don't remember if it was north korea who had it or what but it's basically a missile that scatters around extremely fast and is intended to be really hard to stop because of how it moves and still on target

Russian first introduced the Hypersonics deadly missile weapons which the US is much delayed. The Russian Kinzhal hypersonics nothing can compare this fastest hypersonics missles which the US afraid of this. The Lockheed martin poor development of hypersonics with many failures last year 2022. Russians advanced hypersonics and only in the world that Russians have Ground to Air Hypersonic missiles, Second is China Hypersonics which the US was humiliated by China missile technology.🇷🇺🇨🇳

It's really impressive how fast america came up with a successful hypersonic missile so quickly. With how much of my tax money goes into research weapons such as these its great to see my tax money used effectively. The thing is with American weapons from what I understand if they publicly acknowledged this weapon they at least have 4 more classified versions of these things in development.

@King Might jesus that stuff isn't even technology anymore to the Chinese, look up the ones they tested that turn 90 degress midair. And no they aren't fast enough to intercept hypersonic missiles at their terminal velocity which is over Mach 10.
@Brian T Kinzhal, the russians used it in Ukrain and it was super effective, the US confirmed theres nothing currently in their arsenal that ms able to intercept it. However even that is inferior to China's DF17, Russians themselves admits China has far superior hypersonic missle technology.

The US is in the process of making a hypersonic missile, while Russia is in the process of making their hypersonic missiles' much faster. So even if the US can build their first hypersonic missile, they still won't be able to catch up with Russia's hypersonic missile.
The reason why the us is taking so long is because hypersonic missiles aren't a priority for the usa, mainly because they see them as a farce. The us prefers stealth and numbers rather than speed which they see as irelavent.
