A short documentary about the Olsen Gang
Now with English and Japanese subtitles!
    オルセンギャングに関する短いドキュメンタリー
    今、日本語字幕付き!
I share this documentary out of the non-profit motif that I seek to explain to foreigners what this whole thing with "Olsenbanden" here In Denmark is all about, and to educate people about this part of Contemporary Danish culture and identity.
This documentary fits my mentioned motif perfectly as I am of the belief that it was created with that exact purpose.
Thus by sharing it I am only aiding the promotion of the "Olsenbanden" movie franchise.
I find it hard to explain to my friends in the US and Japan what Olsenbanden is about and why it holds this importance to us, without a visual explanation. This short documentary scratches the surface of the phenomena as it shows both the visuals and explains the humor, workings and psychology behind the Olsen gang.
The Olsen Gang movies are a beloved and essential part of Danish national identity rivaling the Lego bricks and H.C. Andersen tales. Like James Bond is to the British and Lupan III is to the Japanese, the Olsengang is to the Danes. The franchise spawned 14 official feature films, 1 short film, a few spin offs and 2 animated features.
Apart from the former eastern block and especially GDR where a cult following was gained, the Olsen gang films are hardly heard about outside of Denmark, yet Sweden and Norway made their own remakes of the franchise with their own actors.

When the actor playing Egon Olsen died, some prisoners at the prison (vridsloselille state penitentiary) Egon Olsen always goes to, suggested to the management of the prison that the road leading to the prison was renamed from Fængselsvej (prison road) to Egon Olsens Vej(road)
It was unanimously approved at the city hall.

If im not wrong The Olsen Banden/Gang is a Norwegian thing. It originated from Norway?
Edit: after further research i found out that it was Danish writer who came up with the concept, but it was the Norwegians that really ran with it and made it kind of their thing.

@@Drakengard65Olsen Banden was created by Erik Balling and Henning Bahs, two Danish movie makers. The danish movies was then released in Norway to moderate success. The Danish humor didn’t really sit well with the Norwegian people. The concept was then sold to Norway, who then remade some of the Danish versions and then went their own way, which then became a big success. Trough the years Erik and Henning made a lot of fun of Norway in their movies😂 I think they did the same in the Norwegian versions. The Scandinavian banter as always

5 FACTS about the Olsen Gang you didn't know:
    1. Ove Sprogøe (the actor playing Egon) did pretty much all his own stunts in all the movies. One of them almost cost him his life.
    2. Olsenbanden ser rødt (no 8) Sold over 1.2 million tickets in Denmark a record that hasn't been broken since.
    3. The movies were written in april, shot in june/july and had premiere in the fall the same year. That's 6 months. Another record never been borken since
    4. None of the characters exsisted untill Lotte Dandanell created their costumes.
    5. Every script for The Olsen Gang, started with: Where is Yvonne now, what is she doing.

@@julius6889 it was in the 6th film, where behind the scenes Ove really wanted to go on a stunt revolving being pulled down in water by a chain lifter, but The Director told him it was recommended he should'nt get on, because they already build a puppet for the stunt and they knew it whould be dangerous if he tryed.
So in the final shot they used that puppet and what do you know? It got destroyed because the chain hit so hard down that the float of the water made it collide on the head.

Pretty good introduction to the Olsen gang. I do think the instructors and makers of the films especially Erik Balling and Henning Bahs. For their timing and genius ways of making gadgets and plans that the gang uses. In an older interview, Ove Sprogøe (the actor that players Egon Olsen) said that they wanted to "blow up" some of the order of society is sort of an anarchist way - "place a few bombs under society"
And you can see this as "the enemy" of the gang is often bureaucrats, millionaires or nobility.
Just look at the scene with the bureaucrat saying that its "nothing personal" even the fact that he has ordered Egon to be blown up :D sort of a satire on how bureaucrats run society via formal un-personal systems blinded for there personal consequences for "the little man on the floor"
