I just love houseki no kuni, it's such a beautiful show , so complex on so many layers that my friends thinks i'm drunk when i try to explain the show without spoilers " so it's the tale of 28 androginus rock folk in a post-apo future battling creepy moon aliens that kidnaps them to make jewels out of their body"
I’ve actually have this idea for a fan-rewrite of this series wherein Phos is given a companion to help curb their destructive behavior and is able to help find a purpose through their new friend. All this to pose the “what if” of them having someone to lean on from the very start and what kinds of choices they would’ve made if they had been influenced by someone whom they trusted and was always by their side. Been wanting to do it for a while, but haven’t gotten around to it.
Go for it! Phos had many chances to turn away, but he always chose to go down his destructive path. Would be interesting to see your interpretation of the "what if" scenario and how the story would unfold.
All of the characters development is intricately done, but especially Phos. Their development is the type that would make you anticipate of the unknown, where they currently are in the manga leaves you clutching in any piece of hope you have and even if you try not to do it, you can't help but anticipate for the worst for our main protagonist. It is both a sad and beautiful story, as Phos lost every piece of themself, metaphorically and literally. Beautiful in a way that you get to see the growth of such a precious story, but be ridden with sadness over the cost of what that growth entails.
The soundtrack is one of the best things out of some of the best parts of this anime. There’s this one scene in Ep 11 with the teacher that gets me in tears every single time. Great video and I hope you read the manga soon!
Oh ya, the soundtrack is great, I'm also obsessed with the opening song, one of the most unique tracks I've ever heard in an anime. And yes I'm caught up with the manga 🥲
This show is the definition of an underrated masterpiece GEM.......no pun intended, I love it and to this day is in my opinion the best work of Orange as an animation studio and the best looking CG anime ever made.
phos in the manga is completely gone the phos in the later parts of the manga is made of so many other things that, he didnt recognize the a memory of the original phos and calls him cute not acknowledging that, that use to be him
Why does this so little views I want one of my favourite animes to get more spotlight 😭 the channel too… with such high quality and so little subscribers or views. Pain
hahaha, thanks, glad I was able to cover someone's favorite anime! I'm happy as long as this video brings someone new to give Land of the Lustrous a shot
Absolutely love how you laid out the video, fully had my attention till the video ended, great voice!! Phos, is quite literally the embodiment of the ship of theseus. If each and every part of a ship is gradually replaced in different points in the future, is it really still the same ship of theseus? One manga spoiler (warning!!!) that broke me was when present phos saw a memory of phos from ep1, he didn't even _realize_ he was looking at himself. He literally just forgot who and where he started, it was absolutely tragic.
I have heard about this anime from a video from bonsaipop or scamboli reviews, haven't watched it because i had my doubts about the CGI but yor analysis on it is fairly interesting. As always, great production value and the scripts keep getting better, keep it up bro!
thanks for the kind words! honestly, I don't notice the CGI most of the time, but I can understand why it might turn some ppl off. For Land of the Lustrous, there's a lot that happens in the first episode that I think it's enough to see if it's something that might be worth your time
DUDE YOU NEED TO WATCH ITT ONCE YOU GET INVESTED YOU CANT STOPPP The anime I think goes all the way to 12 episodes so you'll have to read the manga to continue and let me say its one heck of a rideeee
(spoiler to who hasn't got to the end) My reaction to the whole manga and anime: Start: ok we start with cute genderless humanoid earth minerals Winter part: ok pretty nice change there Lapis part: hmm ok thats a lot of change Smart lapis go to moon part: What this is sudden sharp turn what a plot twist ending: WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS? WHERES THE REST? A FUCKING GOD???
This anime is so amazing in story telling and character depth, would building. I love how phos's motives and intensions are as pure as they get(wants find something better for her friend). This was the first time a anime made me get the manga it was based off of, and I love both. Also this prove that you can do a cgi anime and have it look good.
Yes! It's as you said, Phos' intentions are pure, but his obsessions over it leads him into all this craziness. It's so tragic to watch, but at the same time, you can't avert your eyes from it.
I need a saeson 2 in my table right now orange! I NEED *suffer, cry , go crazy , broke my soul, heart and mind* in 3D 💖💕 Jokes aside , HnK is so beatifuly *depressing* i love it! And mushi to ushi is pretty good too! Haruka ichikawa made such a GREAT job on give me *depression* with her 2 works💀💖 Amazing
Land of the lustrous is a masterpiece. Ive been a fan for 2-3 years and the manga is tragic. It is ongoing but theres only 1 or 2 weeks left until ch 106 releases
valid point! which part is too much spoilers for you? I'm still trying to figure out a balance of not giving too much spoilers but still creating an interesting review
I think Ghost's shattering and most of the stuff that happens to Phos and their character development, these wore really good to see for the first time, but its really hard to talk about hnk without mentioning these lol. I said that but I still sent it to people, this is way too good, congrats on the great work!
Im not gonna spoil only gonna mention some episodes so if your sensitive to minor spoilers then dont expand I wish my soul was made out of a jewel so i can pick up the pieces and put it together to regain its previous form, because damm that antarc scene in episode 9 was damm…….. im never ever picking up the manga as im already dead inside watching this. Im a cry myself to sleep now………
I don't have any plans to make a video on AoT currently (there's a lot to cover and there's a lot of channels covering AoT already 😋). But in terms of my thoughts, on the top of my head, it's a very gritty show that was very bold with how violent it was. It's very good at maintaining this sense of tension and creating intense, high-stakes situations, where if the protagonists make one mistake, then everything goes to shit. It keeps you on the edge of your seat with these moments that makes you think "how the eff are these guys going to survive this?" I would say, unlike of a lot of shonen anime, AoT had some legitimate moments where I didn't know if the main characters were going to get out alive. Each conflict/battle had weight and significance, unlike a lot of anime where it's obvious that nothing of note will come out of a battle/encounter.
No,Steven universe is more lighthearted and focuses on different things . While there are similarities (frankly the only thing I can think of is that they're both gems) these two couldn't be more different.
fucking amazing anime, wish Studio Orange would make a season 2
yes pls Studio Orange, let us enjoy the rest of the story in animated form!

Indeed. It's just so good.
Exactly! And there's just not enough people to talk about it...
The manga and anime was so good!! I'm glad it's getting more attention now. Hopefully it'll get another season in the future..

I love the story and the setting. The opening is also one of the most unique songs I've ever heard in anime

Spoiler
If I recall, Phos becomes the villain later in the story, siding with the Lunarians and everything.
I'm caught up on the manga, so I won't say much for spoiler reasons, but if this anime ever gets a second season...oh man, it's gonna be nuts.
Phos is never the villain, the villain stays the same throughout the entire manga and it is humanity and the destruction it left after its departure
