    Ah .. one gotcha here, on an otherwise very useful video: Classic Load Balancer uses RR for TCP, and Least Outstanding Requests routing algorithm for HTTP and HTTPS listeners. Other feature of CLB is sticky sessions (sessions started by one client to a given server are maintained on that server until the session terminates) and health checks configuration, whereby unhealthy nodes are taken out of the RR/LOR availability pool.

    what is the difference between horizontal scaling and elasticity?

    • @subhrajit0993

      Looks like same . atleast for snowflake its same.

    • @lucascolepichette5970

      @@subhrajit0993 I think this video was actually a bit off in regards to Elasticity vs Scalability. According to AWS, paraphrased: Scalability is a systems ability to increase or decrease its resources. Elasticity is the ability of your resources to scale in response to demand. Scalability is required for elasticity, but not vice versa. Essentially, in AWS definition: elasticity isn't *just* horizontal/outward scaling, it's an ability to scale in response to some criteria. Scaling out is increasing hardware count, so instead of transforming a home into an apartment complex (scaling up), you would just make more homes (scaling out).

    • @subhrajit0993
      @subhrajit0993 3 роки тому

      @@lucascolepichette5970 great explanation , thanks for taking the timeout to clarify. It's clear now.but one little doubt, so when we say it's elastic, does it not require to internally add/remove more hardware resource ..atleast majority of the times?

    • @lucascolepichette5970
      @lucascolepichette5970 3 роки тому +1

      @@subhrajit0993 Pretty much, yea! Scalability is ability to increase/decrease resources. Elasticity is the ability to increase/decrease resources *in response to* some criteria. If I have a laundry hamper that can increase and decrease in size, it is scalable. If my laundry hamper is full, and I'm able to (and would) increase the hampers size, then it is elastic. Elasticity isn't just for increasing either, if my laundry hamper had a lot of space, and I had the ability to (and would) decrease the hampers size, then that would also make it elastic. Both of the latter exemplify a kind of "vertical scaling" though, kind of like swapping an i5 processor with an i7 or vice versa. However, elasticity certainly applies to "horizontal scaling" as well, so if we had a closet full of collapsed (and expandable) hampers, and upon filling a hamper and needing another we could (and would) go out and grab a new hamper, that would be elasticity still. Simply having the hampers ready shows scalability, but the actual ability to fetch those hampers and put them in action in reaction to something shows elasticity.

    So can we see scalability as vertical scaling and elasticity as horizontal scaling.

    • @Intellipaat
      @Intellipaat  4 роки тому

      Yes.

    • @ganavj
      @ganavj 4 роки тому +9

      Intellipaat that’s incorrect.
      Scalability is the ability of an application to handle additional load. There are two types of scalability - horizontal & vertical. Horizontal is adding more VMs to the cluster. Vertical is increasing the capacity of a single VM.
      Elasticity is the ability to not only automatically scale up (typically horizontally) when there is high demand but also automatically scale down when the demand dies down.

    Can u explain difference between AMI and instance again. Can u elaborate please. As I am still confused

    • @SumitSingh-ob6km
      @SumitSingh-ob6km 4 роки тому +1

      Think of AMI as an template and using that template you create an instance (EC2)

    • @lucascolepichette5970
      @lucascolepichette5970 3 роки тому

      I think it's actually easiest to think of an AMI as simply the operating system you would like your instance to use. An instance is a singular deployment, in this case regarding EC2. He reduced an instance to an instance type, and I really don't think you should mentally do this, as an instance is more than just the hardware configuration. The immediate analogy that comes to mind is an animal, yea could say you're buying a dog, but it's more than that. Perhaps the animal, of type dog, is currently sleeping. Perhaps the animal, of type dog, is currently running but is slow because it's been running really fast, and catching lots of balls, and doing tons of tricks all at the same time. An instance, or animal, is more than just "t2.micro" or "dog", it's the state, its interaction with other instances/"animals", what it has on it (Node.js/a bandana)

    You don't bid for spot instances anymore.
