Thank You! I found this video a few years ago and now I am working with a 15'" block. So happy that you were there to help me out again. I'm going to save this in two places so that I don't lose it again! Thanks again for your easy to follow directions.
How strange I am restoring a quilt my mum made 25 years ago...I’ve had to adapt the layout a bit but I’m determined to use as much of the original fabric as possible, so I decided to add triangles and have the block on point...and guess what I wasn’t sure how to square off the big block....I now know... thanks you so much, the quilt means so much to me. I always learn so much from your videos....very kind of you to share your wisdom. Yvonne from Scotland. Xx
Yvonne, I'm doing much the same! I have blocks my mom made in the 1970's, blocks my grandmother made in the 1940s and blocks my great grandmother made in the 1930's. I want to add my own blocks and square them all up for a 4 generation sampler quilt.
Thank you so much Laura. Your instructions for the Rainbow Sorbet block of the month were so helpful. I’ve not been sure how to complete the blocks and square them up. This has made it so easy .
I made a C2C baby blanket for my son over 30 years ago. I have forgotten how to do it, so I'm glad for the refresher. I' working on a tunic in crochet, but it's coming out too small, so I'll have to return the yarn into balls and start again. I'll be using a bigger hook.
I looked at the pattern that you suggested but don’t understand how to get from those blocks to the beautiful simple block you made here . Thanks for your great videos and any help you can provide. Laura
Instead of actually making a 12 and 1/2-in block I just use plain fabric. And then added the triangle ends. If you look at the pattern look at the finishing directions which is in the first hand out. Hope that helps
Thank you!! Thank you thank you!! ❤ from Nova Scotia!! This method makes sense to me, I was trying to use freezer paper cut to the right size but somehow my blocks were still coming out slightly askew....❤❤❤❤❤❤
If you use any type of paper make sure the paper is square before you use it as a template. Paper isn't always cut using straight lines and it can shift easily, even heavier paper like freezer paper. Commercial paper patterns are very heavy and they are held down using weights. I learned that from my Mom, or Mum, as you say in Canada, years ago. She was an excellent seamstress. Don't laugh , when I want to make sure something doesn't shift when cutting fabric I use a cast iron bacon press that is wrapped in plastic to hold down the pieces, helps!!! PS Greetings from California!
Christine Meleg Bacon press --- now that's a tip I must remember! Jordan Fabrics often illustrate how they use a 5 or 8 pound free weight to hold their long ruler in place when cutting strips the width of fabric (WOF). Good substitute = bacon press.
How did you make that block? I need to make a block that looks like the Brasillian flag. So any pointers would be greatly appreciated. By the way I love your videos.
