  • This $10 item could be the difference between failure and success! If you think that you're going to grab your Bug Out Bag and head out during a crisis or emergency and walk for many miles for multiple days, you are going to have a real problem! If you have to go 30 miles to your destination, you might walk for 10 to 12 miles the first day, 3-5 miles the second day and maybe 1 mile on the third day. The reason? You are not used to the level of activity and the chafing from sweat and gear you are carrying make you too sore to continue. You need this product! This will keep you from getting chafed to begin with and will also promote healing and allow you to continue!

    This is one of those items that I believe is not only largely unknown but also overlooked as to it's importance. This product will keep you going when otherwise you might have to stop for a while to heal and recover. In an emergency situation, you might not be able to stop! If that happens to you, you will be glad that you packed this item for your trip. It has helped me a lot over the years and I believe it will be a great help to you as well! Thank you for watching, please leave your comments in the section below.

      In preparing for a backpacking trip, I learned the causes of a blister are Heat, Moisture, and Friction. If you eliminate one of these, no blisters. So in addition to practice hikes to break in my footwear, I also got thin sock liners to eliminate friction. Wearing two pairs of socks and no blisters. I also heard from seasoned hikers that Preparation H makes a great foot care product because it helps with the pain, swelling and moisture. So I had some with me. I love the Blister band aids, they last for days.
      I didn't think to use it though when I had chaffing on my shoulder from the pack. Should have tried maybe.
      My chaffing seemed to be caused by hair down there. So a couple days before leaving, I got waxed. An unconventional approach, but it was smooth sailing, easier to spot ticks too. Since I was traveling with a bunch of guys, it seemed better than asking someone else to look. That wouldn't be available in a bug out situation, so maybe a razor or this glide stuff. Some of the guys wore Compression shorts. I didn't tell them my secret.
      Another essential item I won't leave without is Chewable Pepto Bismal. I got it for parts of the trail where we had to pack out our own solid waste, and put it into bear cannisters with our food (I avoided that by carrying it in my body), and for any tummy issues from strenuous activity. You don't want diarrhea on the trail.

    I carry mini Chapsticks for similar usages. It's a flame extender and candle too. Smaller, but big enough.

      I have never tried chapsticks, they are definitely smaller. The advantage to the Body Glide is that it is non-greasy and has no wax in it so your skin continues to breathe.

      I carry one of the plastic cases for contact lenses. In one side, I have some neosporin, maximum strength with pain reliever. Really speeds healing of surface skin-wounds. In the other half of the case, I carry Bag Balm. This comforts and heals chapped lips better than anything I have ever tried.
      The contact lens case isn’t big enough to be a First Aid kit. So I call it my half aid kit.
      For sores, listers, etc on feet, I use Nu Skin.

    It is certanly good stuff that allows the skin to breath. i simply broke it down by analysis.
    Coconut palm oil added to Glycerin. Then to a mixture of fatty alcohols mixed with wax solids and Vitamin E.
    Plus Paraffin wax naturally found in sandstone shale, it`s also used in candles and polishes and electrical insulation.
    it also contains Glycery Behenate, which is used as a tablet and capsule lubricant. The later is the real magic that makes it all work.
    Please beware if you have any nut oil allergies. Stay safe. Sincerely from BB, in the UK

    I have really enjoyed your channel but this kind of product is mentioned all of the time by hikers, just maybe not survivalists. You can buy a cheaper version of this at almost every pharmacy and grocery store, Gold Bond Friction Defense. But both of these glide sticks are runny with sweat and clothing friction, and they are terrible for skin that has already chafed.
    Trust me on these recommendations. I have tried a 20+ products during the last decade for soccer and 15-25 mile hikes per day. I've moved on from glide sticks whose primary active ingredient is dimethicone. The best overall products contain zinc oxide between 10-40%, mainly diaper rash products. They are not only preventative, they are the best chafe healing products. However, zinc oxide sucks to work with because you can only remove it from your hands with clothing friction, soap doesn't work. So I prefer balms/salves with mixtures of beeswax and petrolatum for chafe prevention. My two favorite products are Trail Toes and Hiker Goo. They literally stay on your feet and inner thighs all day even during rainstorms. My main two points are this: the best preventative products have high beeswax % and the best healing products have high zinc oxide %. I would avoid products that only have dimethicone as the active ingredient because it is typically a low% of more water soluble inactive ingredients and as a result rubs off too easily.

    • @WayPointSurvival
      @WayPointSurvival  5 років тому +1

      Thank you so much for your input and experience! I do know that a lot survival minded people are not aware of these kinds of products which is why I made the video. In my experience, I have not found the Body Glide to be runny at all and it stays on for several days until I wash it off with soap and water. But, regardless, thank you for mentioning the other products, as others may wish to try them as well. Also, thank you for for your kind comments and for watching the channel!

    • @bigzach322
      @bigzach322 5 років тому

      @@WayPointSurvival I completely understand that, these types of items are more familiar with ultra hikers and trail runners. I'm not saying it doesn't work, I actually have 4 sticks of the Gold Bond version lying around my house and car. I still use it and it works, but I find these sticks area less effective than the other products I mentioned. Especially for high aerobic/friction activities when they rub off faster. I think my main issue with the sticks is they contain ingredients that sting when applied to chafed skin, while the diaper rash and salves are purposely formulated to both prevent chafing and protect chafed areas. The sticks only work for prevention.

    • @bigzach322
      @bigzach322 5 років тому

      Something I forgot is Leukotape. This stuff is perfect for heels and foot balls, but is extremely sticky. Once you put it on, it stays on for days. Very popular item with long distance hikers and ultra runners. I have some but do not use it much since I day hike often and don't want to wear the tape for days.

    • @WayPointSurvival
      @WayPointSurvival  3 роки тому

      It will, but it will rub off and it has to be continually reapplied. Plus it's greasy. This product will stay on for a couple of days maybe as long as 3 days and is very effective. I think it pretty far out classes Vaseline, even though that does work.

    Now I disagree, sorry. I'm not only bushcrafting, but I am also an extreme minimalist. And I think, (an ód can firmly declare based oon my personal experiences, too...) that the extravirgin coconut oil is also perfect, and on the same time even EATABLE, which is very useful in emergency situation! An even better solution is, the PURE TALLOW. That is, the tallow which is rendered by I myself... Just think about it please, neither cavemen nor medieval people couldn't have such an artificial concoction presented in the video, sorry...

    • @WayPointSurvival

      However cavemen and medieval people didn't have thick thighs that rub together when they walk. This is something modern people absolutely do need.
