Nice review. Totally agree with you on the power light. I have a different monitor and it does exactly the same. Makes you wanna remove the battery when not in use.
Great vid. I’m still not sure about an external monitor, but maybe if I finally bought one I would be converted? I’m hoping you’ve got your X-T4 by now, and review and setup vids are on their way! Also looking forward to that Viltrox review!!
Great explanation, Chris! Very good tip. Thank you. And yes! Field monitors are such a great tool to compose and focusing. I just recently decide to buy a Lilliput A7S, with less brightness (500 cdm²) than this one (2200 cdm²), but I really like it. It performs a good visualization even in a sunny day (with the sun shade). I imagine this Andycine with plus 4 times the brightness...
Thank you so much for this video. I record offroading videos outside and the screen on my Canon M50 is too difficult to use. Definitely grabbing one of these.
Hahaha I had forgotten about that. I had to watch the video again to understand what you were referring to. I guess my memory with these videos is going, LOL!!!
probably good stuff for studio , but would not carrying it with me for long hikes because is very bulky . I bought brilliant 5 inch , 3D LUT , IPS touch screen monitor with internal battery which is great to reduce space and weight . Monitor has a port to charge other devices - yes can be used as power bank :)) Also it has a magic arm , so I can flip the screen in one second . Timbrecod DC-56 ,try it out my friend :)
Hello. Thanks, I was looking for this! I wonder if you would recommend this for vlogging? I just want to see myself while talking to the camera and if it is focusing.
How do you feel about using this out in the wetlands filming birds with a 150-600? Is there something you feel would be better than this in a similar price range?
Hey! Have you tried using a phone through an HDMI capturing USB dongle as an external display? Maybe if you have an Android phone it could be an opportunity.
And here's another option (not as bright, though) for a little less money ($179 on sale right now at B & H) - Aputure VS-2 Fine HD 7" Field Monitor. Works really well for my UA-cam "talking head" type vids.
hey man, I'm looking for a monitor that will let me preview a LUT on a fuji. I don't care for bells and whistles like recording etc. It's just for stills to get a feel for what it will look like on location. What can you recommend that isn't in the high price range?
Gosh how did I just discover you?! Your videos are fantastic!! And funny 😆 which makes watching all the way through fast + fun! Loved the one you just did RE turning your iPhone into a webcam. Thanks 4 sharing your wisdom with us! And the bloopers 🤣👀👍🏼

Off axis viewing is more a factor of display tech rather than brightness. Regardless very cool bit of kit and great video as always. Edit just wanted to clarify that I do not intend any negativity on the comment just wanted to make a technical note
That's a good point and I probably should have mentioned that - thank you for letting me know! This was one video where I actually cut almost half of the material out and trying to keep it as short as possible. Anyhow, I appreciate the feedback and all the best to you sir! 👍
2200 nits is great! Focus assistance is very important. But if it was 10bit so you can see better your picture (I know, I know 7" 10bit + more than 1600+ nits does not exist. Yet if you really desire such a spec you'll at least 10k$ for a big 32" monitor). overall, it's cool. I use the Atomos ninja V at the moment and I am happy with it and yes, outside, bright sunny day, it's harder to see. the killer feature for me is the colour reproduction and the recording. here it's the visibility and the price. my wife will destroy me if I'll tell her I need more gear :)
Hi again. I almost forgot and I'd like to share it, If someone experience this problem too: I had some trouble with my Fuji X-T3 to use 4K with the external monitor. I am wondering if was the cable: the photo playback is 4k and the live view however is in a very ugly 1080p. I thought: I buy it to focusing with a sharp view and this image is terrible! Why? So. At the MOVIE settings, go to FULL HD MOVIE OUTPUT, and choose "FHD 4K" ( fhd to the card and 4K to the HDMI out). That is it ! (For still photo purpose.) Thanks everyone. Thank you, Chris.
Hi Ryzen, excellent, excellent tip! This is the reason why I love UA-cam comments and am thrilled to enable them on every single video. Yes, you are 100% correct and that setting can be a huge source of frustration for first time or casual video shooters that are not used to an external monitor. Well done and I should probably make a dedicated video on just that alone as I am sure it probably frustrates a number of other people. Okay, back to work I go now, LOL.
Hey man, good video! Btw this must the way street photographers record their videos of EVF and shooting outdoors hm...Do you know anything smaller or compact to carry aroud to record view finder or screen when doing streets? I would like to do some videos but not sure whats the best way. I got xt30.
Thank you! With recording monitors, you are pretty much limited to 5 inch or more and generally the Atomos is the main game in town - especially for Fujifilm cameras and compatibility. Anytime you have the ability to record, you add additional weight and they generally make the screens larger.
Hello very informative review it was very useful I was just wondering I noticed that there is an X7S Model of this monitor do you happen to know whats the difference between the X7 and the S variant? Thank you very much
Hi there, I believe the S version of the monitor allows for additional and more professional video input jacks. As far as the screen and the general recording is concerned I don't believe there is much of a difference between the two.
I need to record externally from 2 cameras due to the 30 min recording limit. (It's a podcast). Is there any way to record 2 cameras to one recording device/laptop etc. or am I'm looking at buying 2x$500 displays just to capture the footage?
Yeah, that's a good question. I know you can't do it w/ 2 on the Ninja and don't think you can on the others. What I do is shoot my Cam 1 main cam on Ninja and the Cam 2 (b-roll or alt angle) on the SD card.
Hi Arun: thank you for the great suggestion. I actually thought about making a comparison video but do you think it would be fair to do considering they are such different price points? I feel as almost it would be like comparing a Porsche to a Ford Mustang. Not that the Ford Mustang is bad, LOL, I used to have one and loved it. However, the ninja is a lot more expensive - more than double the price - and it will certainly perform better in every single category, features, and what it is trying to do than this monitor. So, money being no object, I would definitely recommend the ninja V. The one advantage that this monitor has over the Atomos is that's a 7 inch screen. There really is a huge difference when moving from the 5 inch to the 7 inch. But in every other manner, the Atomos is a far superior monitor but of course you really do get what you pay for when it comes to external camera monitors.
Great video as ever 👍👍👍 Maybe you could do an item on the xt4 and what you think of it ? Thanks for the great content and entertainment keep it going @wtphoto79
Hey Nick, yes it is similar. One thing I did notice is that overall because of the metal construction and weight, it seems to have a more solid feel than the Feelworld. However, either monitor could certainly get the job done!
I have to disagree with you on this point. If I was trying to do a review of, say, a brand-new sewing machine or television set, then I would agree with you. However, an external camera monitor is a tool that I think is very relevant to my target audience which are photographers and videographers. I tested and used this monitor extensively, and for the price, the build quality is outstanding. I was not paid one cent by this company to do this review - and I put 22 hours of my time (which I could have billed to other clients) into testing, reviewing, shooting, and editing the video - of which I've made approximately $2.65 of ad revenue from UA-cam. Living in the southern United States in 2020, for 22 hours of work, this is not very much money and I may have to forgo flying to the Bahamas in my brand-new Learjet this year unfortunately.. I'm not sure how this can be called "selling out". Please explain further so I can understand why you would think this, thanks.
