There's a place over in Europe that I'd like to visit as well. They call it the Mach loop eventhough it's not a loop at all🤦♀️. It's a pass for fighter jets.
I helped run our old track here in Las Vegas and after like 8 or 9 years, I finally started getting tired and my wife pointed out that I had been working 2 jobs, plus running the track for all of those years. Yeah, I had a reason to be tired. But quite honestly, some of the best times of my life happened during a 3 days race. I would arrive at the track usually 2 days before we opened the gates. I would spend those 2 days doing hundreds of little things no one seemed to remember to do. Once the gate was open, it was basically 72 nonstop. More often than not, I would clear up all the stuff that needed to be taken care of right then. Shut the track down. Crawl onto a stack of concrete bags for our new starting line and sleep for 12 hours. I cannot tell you how many times I would wake up to find that my wife let me just sleep and took my keys with her. That meant that not only was I suddenly locked inside the track, but I was miles from the nearest place to get food. Oh, and she had my wallet. One of our Highway Patrolmen we knew well would stop by and call me on his P.A. Then he would give me a ride home. hahaha. Ahh, to be 20 something again.
One year in Phoenix I got spiffed to the drags. I was an Auto Parts warehouse manager at the time and TRW treated us to a day at the finals. Cool stuff. I got there really early and watched as the entire pit side of the track woke up. I was there for the Sunday service sitting near some of the drivers. After that the Top Fuel cars were being given a once over and the teams were firing the engine up to make sure everything was ok, and to build a little heat in the engine. Standing next to me was a father and son. After a few minutes I saw them signing and the young man was deaf. His father had the world’s biggest shit eating grin on his face because he knew that engine was about to start, and his son was going to feel the vibrations from it. Well they fire it up and the poor kids jumped out of his skin. His father was laughing so hard he couldn’t communicate with his son, so I did my best to calm him down until his father was able to gather himself back up. Those engines are so loud that it vibrates the bones in your body, and this kid actually heard the sound coming from the engine. Yes, it’s a once in a lifetime experience that everyone should experience at least once. I’m glad I was there, and the father in son? From the looks on their faces it was a great thing for them too!
Imagine standing ten feet from 2000 horsepower (this was 1972, remember) going wide open throttle off the line. Always went home hoarse from the fumes and deaf. On a quiet night, from ten miles away mind you, the fuelers sounded like dinosaurs roaring. God I miss Irwindale Raceway.
Been to Cordova drag strip before. Went there with my brother. One night they had Nitro cars. After they fired them up, my ears heart, my chest was pounding, but boy did i have fun! Love it!
I wish I knew of this track in my younger "pre-internet" days as I had an uncle living in Davenport many many years ago........nice crowd there which is good to see 👍
Great show could have been more Nitro dragsters before the U.S. Nationals but we'll take it especially a pair 300 mph Nitro Alterads and 330+ Top Fuel and Funny Cars that's what I meant earlier in the year Local drag strip tracks need NHRA National event to save the racing venue. Like Tucson and Bradenton for a reason example. 😊😊😊😊😊
It was great race thanks for visiting Cordova👍 I've been following your team for over 7 years. Fist time i saw you race at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet IL
@@future20741 I would venture 1,000. I'm pretty sure that's not an 11 second car. I thought that the limitations were on Nitro. I used to watch it every time when I had cable. I no longer have use for it in it's current state.
mobile earthquakes....never been to a race in USA, I'm from the EU...biggest cricuit we have is in the UK > Santa Pod Raceway just check some video's out, you will see cars you never wil see in the USA
Anybody have never been to a drag race needs to go before they die, It's one of the most fantastic things you will ever see in your life
👍
I hope to one day😁.
