    Annie, so hip, so real. Another great lady of that original group who founded jazz singing, yet nobody like anybody else and nobody like Annie. A woman who knows how powerful she was and could do whatever ...even fly..ha. What a woman. Bumped into her a couple of years ago and she was still beautiful and charming as ever.

    Great to see this. Annie was a regular on my x husband's TV show with David Frost in the late '60s. "Not So Much A Program, More a Way of Life." Cleo Lane was the other singer. Such fun hearing the two of them at Cleo's house after a few glasses of wine.

    I think she meant, "Freddy Greene"...not Freddy (Jones ?).

    • @thecrippledrummer
      @thecrippledrummer 5 років тому +1

      Phil Granito Monk didn’t want to come back a second time and say “Freddie Green!”

      @hartzell7407 5 років тому +1

      It was surprising that she "corrected" him to Freddy Jones, when Basie's guitarist was indeed Freddy Green. She slipped a cog there...

    glad you did the interview, monk, but you could have been smoother. Annie needed help, and you just weren't ready. Still, it's a part of our cultural legacy, and painful as it seemed, she did open that window into the past.

      Not just smoother, but more informed on her career. Make her smile and laugh and want to reminisce more. That would have been good for everybody

    A minor technical point:The owner of Prestige records was named Bob Weinstock, not Weinstein. Otherwise, a delight of an interview.

    • @filliusjazzarchive
      @filliusjazzarchive  3 роки тому

      You're right of course, it is Weinstock, and I have so designated this in the captions. The subtitles reflect what the person said, and there is very little editing in these interviews.

    Ross is magnificent , considering Monk, also being in the business , is very unprepared and trying to fill the time asking mostly silly questions!
