Funny thing is that John makes EVERY guitar sound great. Perfect intonation definitely helps this.

Welcome back! I just bought a Boucher from Roger, due to your advice about Boucher, and looked him up. He was a great guy to talk to and deal with. The guitar is absolutely amazing and the voice doesn’t exist in any guitar I’ve played or heard. I could have bought 4-5 top notch guitars for the price, but I don’t think I’d be as satisfied. The only guitar like this is the one Alanis Morissette has, and it’s named Honey, not just for the colouring but honey of sound.

I have an 1990 Yairi DY62 with a cedar top. I love the warm, bloomy attack of the cedar. You can almost overdrive it in a way.
The colors, the wood binding and diamond volute remind me of my guitar. Purty!!
Bridgeport is also a city on the coast, here in Connecticut. Maybe an hour drive from New York City, in the country to the south of Canada.
Connecticut's Bridgeport has a mayor who was reelected to the office, after serving, I think seven years(?) in prison when he was convicted for corruption in office during, I believe, his first term.
It might be just a first impression, but I like the tone of Canada's Bridgeport a lot better.
That was a fantastic pair of guitars!

If you like cedar tops , give a serious consideration to the Seagull Coastline S6 Cedar model .
Made by Godin guitars fir years.
North American made ... superior neck joint construction , innovative headstock design to help eliminate tuning swings and increase effective intonation

    Well John ......
Bit of a story here that does pertain to the Bridgeport .
I know you two go way back of course.
I've preferred to support the small shops first and foremost. Give them the opportunity to show themselves and where they can excel first before jumping and going to bigger players or bypassing the small out of the way shop altogether , or for that matter just switching lanes.
I have bought odds and ends over the years at Rogers shop when he had the young guys on staff. Now Roger is starting to rely on his boutique customers moreso , as he has said he is moving away from his entry priced guitars by choice due to time issues.
That being said ..... I was in his shop looking at a Godin made unit , a Bridgeport and couple others . I sold my DX Martin ( which i know you dislike the X Series , and now i do too due to the tempermental expansion rate issues of the HPL ) and was planning on adding a Bridgeport to my herd of acoustics .
    My final decision ,
when spending hard earned money , comes down to service from the retailer. So what I did was I E mailed ( so he can respond at his complete convenience ) about his recommendation on strings for my Cedar top Godin made acoustic , as i definitely need new ones and am planning a fret dress soon.
I never heard back for weeks. E mailed the same copy again . Still nothing . Then I composed a new E mail with two sentences asking about the Bridgeport . He responded the next day . I asked him if he could please let me know his input pertaining to my E mail about strings for my Godin. He said he would look for the E mail. Never heard back.
    True story.
So i gave him all kinds of opportunities to make it right if it was a matter of him being busy with his usual Roger stuff of making you tube demo videos and doing reno work on the shop etc. Everyone is busy i know.
I thought that once I put the bug in his ear that i was leaning towards getting another guitar that that would let him know i wasn't trying to waste anyones time. But with no response the message is clear.
Sadly it's apparent he does not want to deal with small potatoes .... and that is really too bad because everyone starts small.
l take the opportunity to let people show me that they treat all markets on the same level.
Maybe he needs to have a young person in there again to help with incidentals , and talking to people for standard questions , and then from there the customer could be referred over to Roger for the more in depth questions and guitar testing. As we all know , Very Often it is a trip to any guitar shop that spins off into another unintentional guitar purchase all too often.
Long story short.....i think the Bridgeport may go by the way side too since he is moving away from the lower cost guitars. Roger said it in your video about moving away from those entry level units duecto time .
I like how the Bridgeport has a scrolled B on the headstock just like Ontario based luthier Ted Brown has on his all hand made Blackwood Guitars up in Mallorytown Ontario !
I've made the decision around going to Blackwood Guitars in Mallorytown on a friday and taking one of Teds weekend courses he offers on guitar building , guitar repair and other courses of the like presented for the novice guitarist and upwards .
Would love to see a review on Luthier Ted Browns Blackwood guitars.
Take care and thanks for another great video review.
    Cheers

Fantastically consistent and clear sounding for the price.

non-laminated bocote would probably be a problem on international (or even domestic) production. There are some woods that just don't love age and successive seasonal cycles. We'll see how rosewood does, but gombeira isn't a fan, and as you know, brazilian rosewood can get really splintery.
Even common woods like douglas fir and yellow pine can end up with glass-like growth rings and powdery stuff between. Not so great for a wood that needs to move.
Someone in indonesia and china must've come up with a novel process to produce laminated flat neck parts, scarf the peghead and build up the heel, because the same design is all over the place lately.
My thought isn't that it's bad, it's that on a $1500 or less US guitar if you want stable wood, that's probably what you're going to have to end up with. I've fixed more on old gibson mahogany necks by far than I've ever done on more inexpensive laminated two or three piece necks.
there is some level of treat in this type of guitar rather than trying to get martin to squeeze something out for $1500 in the US. can you imagine trying to get a collings 290 for $1500? It's just better off not done. Gibson can make finish cracking neck humping unstable guitars aplenty in that price range.

      I couldn't agree with you more .
In my opinion you really can't go wrong with a guitar like a Seagull Coastline S6 , whether you choose Cedar top or Spruce top.
I've talked to soooooo many people that work in music stores that have owned the Seagull Coastline S6. They are all so happy with how they hold up under normal use and care.
The way that Godin guitars builds the Seagull Coastline S6 is so Superior to so many of the guitars in the under $2,000 price range. Especially at the neck joint.
Plus the whole idea about the headstock is superior too , with the way it creates the pull on the strings , it means that you're not going to have this constant extreme swing in your guitar going out of tune. Plus it does add some increase in effective intonation .

    Really nice guitar J.P.
My understanding is, laminated back and sides are more rigid and homogenous and can be better sounding then one piece ones. Must be made from quality laminated wood layers tho, not mass produced plywoods with tons of glue, wood dust and other additives ;)

There's a little bit of cardboard "closed" in sound due to the laminate. I mean, c'mon, the laminate is such an insult to the player looking for a special guitar, unless, that is, it's priced as a Simon & Patrick Woodland Cedar.
