I always curious about Jeanette’s paintings every time she featured in James’ videos. Love to finally see them in this video
Same!
You two are so adorable. I loved this so much. You two are both very talented people. Thank you for sharing with us.
Calling skilled artists "talented" is insulting 😭. Just saying before you get roasted by others on the internet 👀

speaking of the issue of calling artists talented...if you're into manga (or not), there's a manga called "blue period" which talks about the difference about talent and hard work in artists!!! highly recommend
I absolutely love her art. I wish I could see these places in person. So charming and comfortingly simple and solid.
Jeanette says thanks!
Ha! Jeanette Gurney finally gets her UA-cam debut lol you both are amazing people and I still hope one day, I could trek from Illinois to meet and greet at a time you both set up a workshop in New York. I have been teaching my wife to the benefits of Art and she finds it as another way for us to get closer. Thank you both for being so humane and inspirational. Meeting you two would be another life milestone for sure.
yes they are as they seem... I'm from Illinois...talked my husband into going w me to the 3 day Fantasy Art Convention in Kansas City...James was one of the speakers and demo artists....we both really, really enjoyed the whole experience...had to go back a day early for Charlie's first oncology appointment.... wish covid hadn't shut down a repeat of such a wonderful convention....If we ever get a another chance GO
I’ve been admiring Jeanette’s work as well as James’ work and am thrilled at the chance to see more of her art!
I love this focus on Jeanette, her work is beautiful! I love how her drawings look like she is capturing a memory. I would love more videos with her, especially a drawing and painting demo!
This is delightful. I've always been curious to see more of Jeanette's work. I've seen her sketching alongside you in your previous videos. I've worried that she might feel a bit overlooked as a talented artist in her own right, glad to see her featured here :)
This lady is like a ray of sunshine. Amazing
This is my first real look at Jeanette's work. I always see here drawing off to the side in your videos, I'm happy to have a chance to see so much of what she does. :)
Thanks Jeanette for the captivating presentation. I’m going to take your advice to keep my painting stuff with me when I go out. I used to think of taking it only when I intended to paint outside, which was rare. Often I wish I had it with me when I’ve been out. Some line and wash outdoors would be a great way to wind down after appointments like chemo especially. So I’m gonna take your advice! Thank you.🎨🌳
Thank you for sharing your journey! I love your style, Jeanette, and I love the freedom and playfulness of your approach to art. You see beauty and wonder wherever you are, even waiting for laundry. I won awards in school for art, but didn’t make time for it in adulthood. I’m usually stymied where to start and what to use, but after seeing the wonderful effects you achieved using a variety of tools, I was inspired to pick up a ballpoint pen and a sheet of printer paper to sketch my daughter making breakfast. I felt so much more present, and had fun. Hope to see more of your work.
I'm thrilled to know that you're drawing and also enjoying your daughter's presence while drawing. Best of all worlds -JLG
Can't wait! Jeannette makes some wonderful art I've always wanted to see in full when she features in James' vids.
I've been thoroughly charmed and soothed by your channel. Thank you.
Mr Gurney is one of my absolute favorite artists… both of them are excellent and look like genuine sweet people
What a talented lady. I'm glad to see her work.
Thank you Jeanette, I love the way you approach each subject the way it wants to be painted whether warm and cool or bright colours detailed or simplified. So lovely, thank you for sharing your adventures with us.
James, I think it's just wonderful that you're featuring your wife's work. She's so in to what she does, and it shows. Your conversation has confirmed so much of what I've learned over the years about plein air painting. I believe your wife could inspire real growth in people doing more pen and wash sketch work. It's inspiring to me.
So great to see Jeanette featured in this video. Always will remember that day we hung out together and drew a bit. She has a great spirit and talent. Hope she reads through the comments. Say hello for me and my wife Joyce!
Glad you enjoyed it, Gary. Hope we get a chance to sketch with you (lions, tigers, and bears, oh my). JLG
LOVE JEANETTE'S WORK! Such whimsy and personality! Such sympathy and delight in the character of things. Makes me laugh and sigh.
I loved hearing Jeanette’s voice an hearing about her art, after seeing her in dozens of non-speaking cameos. :) You two have a wonderful creative life. Thank you for sharing your art and your teaching with the world.
Been wanting to get a closer look at Jeanette's art for a whilee, this is wonderful
The immediacy and ease of these sketches is fantastic. We need to see more of Jeanette, and her work!
Just wonderful intro. Thank you both ! My grandmother was from Bantry! Glad you enjoyed Ireland!
Really enjoyed this. As a beginner with watercolor, I appreciated Jeanette's loose sketching and minimal colors in a number of her creations. Thank you.
I love that when I look at these it looks like I am seeing Jeanette's memories
You two are so adorable. My love isn't an artist, but I love the fact that he sits beside me when I'm plainair painting (sometimes holding my watercolor palette).
James - I can't tell you how awesome it was to see this video pop and learn from Jeanette. She's absolutely great. Please pass along my compliments and my thanks to her for sharing so much with us.
Jeanette, thank you for sharing your work! I loved seeing your art and hearing you talk about it.
This is the method I use for nature journaling and I love that you've done a video about it! This set up is so light can be taken easily to the museum or out in the field. Thanks Jeanette!
As much as I love James’ work, Jeanette’s watercolors and her use of light and shadow are brilliant!
Mr.Gurney looks so proud.
Love your drawings and paintings of older houses in American and the puppets! Beautiful! ❤️❤️❤️
I’m so glad you finally showed us some of your wife’s work I’ve been waiting to see it also!!
I work a lot and I feel very sorry that I have so little time. On Saturday it was finally a little warmer so I quit my job and went to the garden with a piece of paper and pastels and made a simple drawing of daisies. I was covered with ants and beetles, a moth sitting on my back, but I was happy. My mind relaxed and I didn't think about problems, but I lost myself in drawing. It was a very successful day. Thanks for the inspiration. You're both great. Best regards from Poland.
I've loved watching your videos the last few months. I love watercolor techniques. Tonight my husband and I were super surprised when we saw 'Rt. 32 Glasco' on one of the paintings by Jeanette! We used to live there! We are in GA now but it was such a treat to see familiar places like Long Island, Connecticut, Kimgston, etc that were our old stomping grounds for 3 decades!
Well, that was a real treat! I thought that Sylvan Cottage was my favorite, but there were quite a few more that stood out, so now I can't decide! Great work...and thank you, Mr. & Mrs. G. for sharing your skills with the world!
Omg your kidding , no way, I am so happy to see this. Thank thank thank you so much!
I usually can't sit through these long videos. I made an exception for yours and really enjoyed it. Thank you
I love the subjects you choose to paint. Beauty in the simple things in life.
I was so glad that your showing Jeanette's work. She remembers so much about the why and what about her work. So enjoyable!
I have watched your video again and again and always learn something new. I am now focusing on line and wash for a while, and I feel so lucky to be able to learn from the sketches, advice and positive encouragement you share in your video.
Maybe someday we can sketch together,😊
Hi James... finally, so nice to see Jeanette and some of her work. It must be nice to be the dynamic duo of the art world. She does very beautiful work and compliments yours. Hope to see more of her sketches and paintings in future videos. I just received two more of your books in the mail, looking forward to reading them.
Jeanette is as cool as they come, and so tough and committed to her work. These images out in the cold are incredible. My plein air experiences have been discouraging. Hot, or windy, and I find it so difficult to work in undesirable conditions. So amazing that the two of you paint no matter what. Amazing?
So nice to meet Jeanette. Delightful!
you two are soo sweet!! I love seeing you two together! I feel like with the connection you two share anything is possible.
I loved everything that Jeanette painted, especially the vintage costume and puppet! You are such a talented and lovely couple and I’m looking forward to more art from the both of you. In these times your videos really transport me and make me so happy. Thank you for sharing your wonderful works. Hugs, Julie 🥰
You two are so fun together! Thank you for the delightful look into line and wash on the go!! ❤️👏🏻❤️
You two are So lovely!!
Thank you, and I will look up more of your painting adventures. 😊❤️
you two are so unbelievably wholesome.. this is a delight.
I love seeing where the paintings and drawings were done and going "Hey I've been there!" because I never think to sketch the places I visit. This was a great reminder! Densely populated cities and coastal New England towns are my favourites.
This was surely just great. Fantastic. Mrs gurney is very good. Truely fantastic video.
Aww so lovely to see Jeanette’s work after seeing glimpses in other videos.
New to painting, new to learning as much as I can, new to your channel & watching your videos one-by-one in a scattershot manner...I've learned so much from you, and now to "meet" your wife--what a revelation she is, too! Just when my gratefulness for your teaching was at its height, it doubled in an instant by meeting Jeanette. Thank you BOTH. You're truly gifts to this oft-dark world. With warmth from Portland, Oregon this late February Sunday morn...
Thanks and welcome. She's making stir-fry right now in the kitchen. I read your comment and it gave her a big smile.
This is my favorite video on your channel, out of all of them, so far. And I been watchin’ fer years! So i know…! It took me a few sittings to get through this one because my life is so busy and I’m so productive and all… 🙄 but I really enjoyed this video more than all the others. (And I enjoyed all the others a lot.) We can see who wears the pants in the family now. Mr. Light & Magic only goes so far and then Mrs. Line & Wash has to step in and keep things real. Bravo! To the both of you. Look me up next time you guys are in the Vancouver, WA. Area… I’ll show you all the happenin’ Sketchy places. Portland gets a lot sketchier every day!
The line & wash paintings from all the places you’ve visited are better than taking photos, they have so much character, an you can tell a little story about each one. I really love that style of painting and hope that some day I’ll get the hang of doing it myself. Thanks for sharing your sketch books Jeanette, thoroughly enjoyed your work. I’m so glad I found your channel today, this will give me hours of pleasure watching your videos. Cheers from “down under”.
Ms Gurney, Thank you so very much for sharing your sketchbooks and experiences with us.
Lovely! What a super collection of vignettes from your travels, all capturing the essence of the moment. Thank you so much, Jeanette, for sharing and having a peek at all the supplies used.
I love Jeanette's work so much and it's such a pleasure to get to hang out with you both through these videos! Thank you.
It's SO lovely to see Jeanette! You both have so much to teach! I always learn at least one helpful tidbit from each video so I really appreciate All you have to share with Us! Much love and gratitude to you both!
Wonderful, Jeanette! So nice to hear your voice and see your charming work.
I love to see Janette featured ❤️ wonderful tips. Thank you.
Thanks for the lovely show of so many fine sketches - each of them done with love and passion for the subject! Looking forward to see more another time :-)
Sketching is the best way to remember things during traveling. Others may think you loose time when we stop for 30-45min on a specific spot. But if we don't 'sacrifice' this time we won't have these pleasant memories which always can be refreshed when looking at the sketch later on...
How wonderful to have the ability to travel around the world to make art. I enjoyed seeing your work.
I love that you let the scene decide which colours are featured and where to put less/ more line detail
great talk window into Mr. Gurneys best friend and life partner thank you both for sharing your beautiful art with us all
This is something I have wanted to see for a long time. Jeannette, love your sketches and thank you for sharing.
This was a delightful video. I love listening to people talking about their art and having little pieces of information about the context is so nice.
Thank you very much for this lovely tour of your sketchbooks, Jeanette! Watching the two of you interact is delightful!
Hi guys, great to see Mrs Gurney get centre stage, very natural and informative. I've been following James work for a while now and often Jeanette is alongside but we rarely get to see her artwork so this broadcast is great for her! Keep filling our screens Gurney's, oh to live your life, I find time is the issue for me, I so wish I could paint more, sadly the day job gets in the way... Anyways keep the great work up guys, look forward to the next video/broadcast. Thank you.
Jeanette’s voice, tone and personality are all adorable 🥰
I love your line and wash. Your art is amazing. Thank you for sharing.
I am a new Subscriber from Australia.I am 60 soon. Have never Painted . I was Top in ART WORK Sketching and Black Indian Ink Painting in Art Classes in Senior High School. I haven't Sketched since I was 18 years . Now I am near retirement age. I find myself wanting to give Water Colour a go to RELAX during our Covid Restrictions and ongoing Lockdown. GREAT FEEL GOOD CHANNEL. LOVE your WATER COLOUR PAINTING SKILLS and CALM VOICES. Cheer's Paul
Thanks, Paul. Have fun sketching, it'll take your mind off the everyday worries! -Jeanette G
always nice to hear how different artists work, thank you Jeannette
Love your work and verbalizing the way you do line and wash! Thanks for sharing your lovely sketchbooks
Wow! This was soooo fun to watch!! You are amazing! Line and wash is not my easiest technique but I am trying to learn and get better so that I can plein air more. My husband retires in a couple of months and we hope to be traveling some. Thank you so much for sharing your work!! I hope you will show us more!
What a wonderful couple! Thanks for sharing your amazing sketchbooks, Jeanette!!!!
Great to see Jeanette’s art and hear her commentary! Hope we see more of her art.
You two are amazing. Lifted my spirit. Thanks and God bless
Thank you for some lovely entertainment ! I so enjoyed seeing your sketchbooks and picking up tips 🌝🤗
You two, and Jeannette’s sketches are absolutely adorable. I Enjoyed watching and listening so much. Thank you for sharing! ❤
Thank you, I've been wanting to peek over Jeanette's shoulder for a long time! This was great!
Love this! I'm going to have to go back through it starting and stopping to 'see' it. You moved too fast. Great encouragement to get out there and paint. I took up line and wash last year (first I'd heard it called that, i always just thought architects did it) and found it was so much easier to use a fountain pen and I could just fly! When I use pencil, I erase as much as I draw. This made it so easy to love drawing! Thank you! I subscribed and will binge on past videos of yours. I've never had time to paint, I always had my camera on my shoulder or in my hand and had to click fast as my hubby won't stop for much of anything. I've missed a lot!
Having watched so many years of your videos and seeing you both paint together I was often curios to see Jeanette's work. It's wonderful. You've both brought me a great deal of instruction, insipiration and encouragement.
wow, that was really fun & quite inspiring. thanks so much sharing & especially explaining with such detail.
That was fantastic, very inspiring, and so much fun.
Such a talent. Thank you sharing your work, Jeanette.
Hi James. I'm a fairly new subscriber and have watched quite a few of your videos. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Jeanette's line and wash work. You are both very good artists and I'm enjoying seeing all of your work. Please show some more of Jeanette's work too!
I love this… it encourages me to do more line and wash, and working small, which I absolutely love but don’t have anyone I know that does it so very encouraging thank you for sharing
Your work reminds me of illustrations from books I loved as a kid. I would lose myself in the pictures and just examine them for hours. I especially like the people in your sketches because they are so full of little details in both their looks and actions. It's all so fun to really look closely at and notice every little detail!
Thank you Jeanette, excellent tutorials and very inspirational. Love the looseness of your sketches.
This was wonderful! So glad to see more of Jeannette's work. Amazing talent!!
This was a wonderful treat! Thank you J & J!
So lovely to see and hear about Jeanette’s work and process. Would love to see more❤
Yes!!! I’ve always wanted to see more from Jeanette, what a neat opportunity!
Watching this video, Beautiful! comes to my mind. Thank you, Jeanette and James.
This is the most creative, inspiring and wholesome video I've watched on UA-cam. Loved every second of it. Thank you!
What a gift she gives us to share her work!
Jeanette is a delight. I really enjoyed the walk-through as well as her energy. 💞
What an amazing life you have together as artists! A very special connection.
Yeah ♥️ I’m so excited to see your wife’s participation in your channel. 😊 tell her I would like to see more watercolor
That was very enjoyable. All the line and washes are very good and all the places you went were awedime.
