Turnaround Day behind the scenes: How cruise ships are ready to sail again in just 10 hours

- Norwegian Cruise Line's 965-foot, 91,000-ton 'Star' cruise ship never misses a step in her tightly choreographed weekly visit to Tampa. It is a dizzying 10-hour 'turnaround day' -- a lesson in efficiency that helps to explain how cruise lines can offer travelers the best value in vacations.
Just as the sun rises, the first tractor-trailer truck arrives at the pier. Deliveries will drag on for hours. And by the time restocking is complete, a total of 18 big rigs will have helped prepare this ship for its next weeklong sailing.
Back in 2012, Chris Chmura got a look behind the scenes as the Norwegian Star pulled into port, was refurbished and restocked, and sailed back out.

I worked on the NCL Star, seeing the Versailles main dinning room again was amazing, after all those nights I spent there serving dinner. Good memories.
For the reporter that was a cool assignment.

Really good story, Chris.

What the fucks day ?
Some sites for working on global cruises ships, please?
As cleaning floors or cleaning women?
I m interested for me and my biologic mom 2022!
No scams, please!
Thank you!
All i see wayy too much of overheads from business point of view with less profit ratio. Look for another business idea. 😀
I think you are leaving out the onboard spend. The meals and crew costs are covered by ticket prices but the profit comes from onboard spend. Excursions, casino, gift shop, add-on cocktails, spa, art auctions, etc all have huge profit margins.
apparently it's working.
Do better then gay boi
I wonder if everyone on this plastic ark is going to see their Heavenly Father, Like Noah and all his followers
Of course they will. Eventually.
Travelling on a cruise ship does not give eternal life. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
We all know they clean nothing in their turnaround day, thats why they are the best COVID incubators!
You’ve obviously never cruised! Cruise ships are absolutely spotless (well the good ones are) I’ve never, ever seen anything even slightly grubby on any of the ships I’ve cruised on.
Your comment is beyond ignorant, the staterooms are always bloody immaculate upon arrival.
@@JulieWallis1963 I’ve only seen degenerates on the carnival Mardi Gras dump ice cream on the thing then they send someone out to clean it
Well shows your IQ about cruising, very ignorant comment when you know nothing about what goes on a cruise ship. Yes I can say that as I have friends that work on these ships and I have been on 16 cruises myself
You obviously have not been on a cruise ship
this was from 2012. now theyre even cleaner due to covid protocols.
