  • The Engadin is one of Switzerland’s most touristy regions. With that it is also apparent that it is quite a costly area to stay at, especially when thinking about St. Moritz. Thankfully, there are a couple of places that can be visited even on a budget. For example the lake of Sils! There is this great spot for hiking just at Plaun da Lej. It’s a free parking lot just at one of my favorite secret spots in Switzerland. You may choose then to hike up to the village Grevasalvas to get an even better view of the lake. The hike will take you through a forest full of larches. During Autumn, these are going to be glowing in a beautiful golden color, which is really fascinating. After only 20 minutes of hiking, you will have a brilliant view over the larch forest and the lake of Sils. The organe-golden larches are nicely contrasting the navy blue lake of Sils and the snow mountains. Also consider to visit the peninsula at Plaun da Lej. It takes around 10 minutes from the parking lot to reach the tip at where you can take great photos. The peninsula is also full of golden larches and especially during the afternoon with the shallow sunlight, it’s going to be really beautiful. The best thing about this activity is: Everything is free! You will not have to spend any single cent except on getting there by car or by bus. It’s a brilliant activity for people who try to travel on a budget.
