This beautiful program, loving it and the beautiful music, can’t understand why people hate it… this program seems to have higher difficulty than the Philip Glass one in my opinion
People didn't like Philip Glass at first either, actually. Come to think of it, they didn't like Rocketman either. A flawless, perfect gold-medal performance from Nathan at some major competition towards the end of the season will change a lot of people's minds, apparently.

It blows my mind, because that is just such a winner program! I think a lot of people have a problem with Nathan's artistry not being classical but more modern - why one should be better or more valued than the other is beyond my comprehension. But to me it seems that if it's not a lyrical ballet on ice, they're going to hate it.

Some didn't like certain programs at first but changed their minds as they saw his progressions through the season. If the nasty comments were from twitter, it was prob mostly jealous fans of Yuzuru. Many of them are nasty towards Nathan no matter what program he's skating to. They've been petty and nasty since he started winning and consistently beating Yuzuru. It's hard to deny that he's consistent and technically better than anyone so Yuzuru's fans like to claim that he doesn't deserve his scores because he's artistically weak. And because he's more natural and organic rather than theatrical in his expressions/interpretation of his music, and doesn't always skate to traditional music as you pointed out, they think they're right about his lack of artistry. And, in a lot of ways, Nathan _is_ the opposite of their favorite skater, which makes them hate him even more. I'm just glad that the judges aren't anywhere as narrow-minded about artistry and figure skating as these people are. It's good to know they can still award high PCS to both skaters when they're so different in style and in how they express themselves.

And yes, the hateful comments are most likely fanyus, it's driving me insane how they don't just criticize, but straight out laugh at his artistry. I've seen comments saying he moves like a chicken, like he's electrocuted etc. One person I follow wrote that Rocketman is everything a skating program should not be and I'm like... why? And says who? It's so sad and truly narrow-minded, there is more than one style of dance and artistry. Also btw, they don't seem to mind the more modern moves when it's Florent Amodio or Josefin Taljegard, but somehow with Nathan they hate it? Their bias is glaring.

So sorry to learn that Nathan Chen is dealing with an injury. This Skate Canada would have been perfect back to back skating from SP to FS if not for that forward landing he had in the last combo-jump 4TL + 3TL in FS. (He ended with 4TL + 2TL). Excuse me for nit-picking but that was his signature combo jump. (Aye😔!) His condition is really not quite there yet. He’s too ambitious to try to do 6 quads in Skate America. (He did 6 quads in 2018 Olympics.) Pray Nathan’s body condition will be all together when GPF comes.

If you're familiar with Mozart, you should know that Mozart isn't an emo freak. Lol..Mozart always set emotional boundaries in his works. You can't interpret Mozart as you do to Chopin or composers of Romantic era.
I meant, if you feel very strong about Mozart's music, then there's something wrong with the rendition, either in instrumental performance or physical art like dancing or figure skating. Mozart is meant to be less emotional.

Nathan isn't your traditional skater(not in how he skates or how he dresses) so a lot of skating snobs and purists who are afraid of anything that's unique or different can't handle him. Yeah, he mentioned at Skate Canada's press conference that he's currently dealing with a "hip thing". He hasn't disclosed any details so it's unclear if it's a new injury or if he simply aggravated the old hip injury that he had surgery done on to fix years ago. He's been practicing the 4Lo a lot and I guess many are saying that the loop jump isn't exactly good for the hips. Hopefully he gets some proper rest now that his grand prix events are done. At Skate America, people noticed him holding to his side quite a bit and even rubbing it at times during the streamed practices. I thought maybe he was just nervous but he seemed a bit distracted and even upset, so maybe it was the hip that was bothering him.

I like the music but it needs more interpretation throughout. The last step sequence is cool, but it doesn't look too difficult. Glad to see him skate great though!

...he's not the only one using this piece of music this season. Anna Scherbakova of Russia is using it in her free skate as well. Also, it's been used multiple times before in the history of skating, and skaters have even won competitions with it so it's not "unusual" at all.
YOU can tuck in your shirt if you want to. The reigning champ doesn't want any kind of a restriction on his movements. Whether his shirt is tucked in or not won't matter to the judges so who really cares.

Have you been noticing other male athletes in Men, Pairs Skating and Rhythm Dance? Many of them don't wear their shirts tucked-in, some even wear roomy shirts untucked, and most of them wear Black too. It seems Nathan Chen sets the trend like it or not.
Mozart is perhaps the greatest fascination of my life. It started when I was a teenager, more than 40 years ago, after listening to his Jupiter symphony, especially the fourth movement...
Mozart's is "the worst most boring music you've ever heard"? Personal taste in music, to each his own, I guess. But, Mozart's music is the mother of music to me. May I suggest that movie "Amadeus" (very entertaining, I promise) to appreciate the genius of Mozart.
Surely one of the most bland and uninteresting Choreographies He's ever had. And that says a lot. Still mindblown that this could receive anything above a 75 in PCS (and that still taking into consideration his reputation and titles) if any other skater had performed this it wouldn't get above 60. As for his jumps I do think that they habe gotten better in Quality over the years but ok this occasion they were particulary shaky, hab not transitions, no flow, no rythm etc.
Nathan looks dead man. He's slow and very tight. I don't know if he's stressed about the Olympics or if he's completely unmotivated. He's been vocal about he's interest in other things but come on. It's the Olympics

Athletes feel burn out especially during olympic season. That's the impression he gives off to me and frankly a lot of people. Biles is the prime example of what I'm talking about. She dropped out of the competitions because she's wasn't good mentally. The one competition she competed in ,she medaled because like Nate, she's great at what she does. @@dimitra_nd...how do you know he doesn't feel his programs? His skating style is completely different from Jason's. Jason is a theatrical, rehearsed skater...the traditional kind. Nathan skates free and loose, like he's improvising on the ice without an audience. He's not your conventional skater. It's all about preference. I love Nathan's style, personally. It feels more genuine and not like "an actor acting on the ice". It's like turning a piece of music on for him for the first time and watching what he does with it. His mentality is perfectly fine, btw. He might be a little tired, but he has had two weeks of competitions straight in a row at this point.
It's all in your perception and projection, so far from the truth that it makes me wonder if you are having a really bad day. Nine judges and five members of the technical panel don't agree with you, neither the audience. The result speaks for itself.

It's a choreo sequence, difficulty isn't a requirement

It feels more genuine and not like "an actor acting on the ice". It's like turning a piece of music on for him for the first time and watching what he does with it. His mentality is perfectly fine, btw. He might be a little tired, but he has had two weeks of competitions straight in a row at this point.
I wonder if you also got the same "dull spirited" feeling watching Nathan's LP at 2021 WC. This is Nathan's style.
