  • Andy Tillison. leader of the 22 year running Progressive Rock band "The Tangent" talks about the processes he went through in order to create the latest album in the band's canon. The 13th album "To Follow Polaris" is actually entirely performed by just Andy - a one off experiment, and here he talks about how he approached it, the differences it made and the problems he came across. In the video Andy can be seen working with a range of equipment including his Millenium MPS-750x drums, Arturia Matrixbrute Synthesiser, a budget Harley Benton Bass guitar, a Roland Ae01 Aerophone wind controller and software including Steven Slate Drums SSD5 and SWAM Solo Violin/Tenor Saxophone.

Andy. I was born to listen to prog rock. It's what I naturally gravitated towards bands like Yes, Jethro Tull, Genesis, ETC...before I knew of the term Prog. Having said that, I just want to say that you are the best prog composer I've ever been exposed to. Thank you for the Tangent and everything you put into it.

@@andytangent944 Hi again. Just want to take this opportunity to thank you for the Tangent. Been a fan since the first CD. Your liner notes for "Place in the Que" was so true for me. Took me years to appreciate a 20 minute song about a WWII vet turned bar fly. It's been my favorite Tangent song since about 7, or so years after it was released, ha. New England is no friend to prog, so most bands don't play around here. There are signs of that changing a bit, so maybe I can hold out some small hope that if you ever tour the states again, you might play somewhere close enough to MA. Take care and thanks again for everything.

But you played the drums on slow rust...

I did - you are right, but I played the drums using mainly keyboards to do it with and a couple of pads to add to that. This time it's mainly played using a drum kit all the way through with additions from the keyboard.
