Yes, it's a Mohawk chant named 'Rabbit Dance'. I found a very old recording of some Native American men singing it and did my best to re-create it with my own voice as respectfully as I could :) I did not want it to sound hokey or like cheesy, new age easy listening music, as I find tends to happen often when people absorb ethic sounds into their music. I wanted it to feel a bit more raw & tribal, like the original :)
@miracleofsound Thanks. I’m from the Lakota tribe in the Black Hills of South Dakota. So the Desmond saga is more special to me than just me being a fan so thanks for the song. Love ya.💙💜

You know, I've heard Assassin's Creed III was not the most popular of the series but honestly, I've been playing it myself and, aside from Ezio I think Conner's the best character so far -granted I'm writing this before I've had the chance to play Black Flag or the other spin-offs, but Conner is a fascinating character. He's the only Native American to ever become an Assassin, his motive for pursuing the Templars, although basic, turned out later to be misguided, and that the very cause he was fighting for had been the thing that destroyed his home and killed his mother. By that time, he's become a man with nothing more to lose. I think that makes him more dangerous than any other assassin, because now all he has left is the Brotherhood, and the new life he builds around himself.

I think the most impressive part of your music is how consistent you are with the quality you put in your songs. You do every game you write on a BIG favor in my eyes. You're very talented, never stop doing what you do. Thank you for making my life better for being able to listen to your music!
"Musket guns and silver slivers, justice runs in crimson rivers, words of ancient truth we follow, bleed these veins into tomorrow" is one of my favorite line in many of his songs for AssassinsCreed
I was just thinking this could also be considered a tribute to Edward Kenway -- the line "The winds that my father rode will never fill my sails" in particular makes me think of him. Of course, Edward Kenway is one of my favorite characters, so that makes me happy.
+Kyram But there wasen't any refrence to Edward's father in the game though..... But he's still awesome. Also AC IV have one the best ending that no other game have came close yet.
It could be a reference to both...the winds that Connor's father (Haytham) rode (Templars) will never fill his sails...the winds that Haytham's father (Edward) rode (Assassins) will never fill HIS sails....
connor had such a sad story, but he never lost hope. Even though it's a ac characters, it's really inspiring. he was the best assassin, even beats Edward.
AC3 was good. Not great, but good. I liked how Haytham wasn't just a typical villain like the other Templars but a nice guy who seemed to have the best intentions at heart. I liked that scene at the end when you finally kill the Templar responsible for destroying your home, there was something about the stillness of the scene that grabbed me. And I liked how the game didn't go down the route of "fuck the British, 'Murica FTW!" That bit at the end when Connor sees patriots celebrating their freedom across the street from a slave auction was quite powerful to me. All in all, if Connor was a likable character then I would likely have enjoyed the game much more.
Bainbow AC usually manages to remain "neutral" (obviously the character is on a side...). However, it's mostly developed in Montreal, so why would there be American patriotism?
Ruxandra TheEmpress Because I expect good storytelling from Ubisoft Montreal and blind patriotism is dumb. That's why I'm glad that they showed both sides of the revolution and didn't take a side, that was the smart thing to do.

I did like the story of AC III, but the main character (Connor) well i really didn't like him at all, way too boring imo :P Oh well, i haven't played AC4 yet so, looking forward to see what Kenway is able to bring to the table :-)
***** In all of AC series i liked Haytham and Edward the best because i can relate to those characters,i didn't find Connor interesting,Ezio was kind of cool and Altair was badass
This was my mental bleach for anything going wrong in my life. I think for five years after I had first heard this. If I ever had horrible thoughts or couldn’t stop my paranoia, I’d just think of that, “Rabbit Dance,” would play in my mind making my head clear once again. Of course, then I’d think of the rest of this song, which would then lead to singing. Thank you for the happy memories!
This is definitely one of my favorite songs from you, I love how this song has two parts/melodies. One for Haytham and one for Connor, and in the end they mix together. Simply beautiful. ;__;
How do you always manage to wriggle in 'Justice Runs in Crimson Rivers' into every one of your songs? Is it like your catchphrase? Because it's a good one.
for over 3 years i always thought you sang "i take to the water, to die upon the gates" instead of "I take to the water To glide upon the gales " and now that i read the lyrics my whole world has changed
Happy birthday Conner! The song is a beautiful tribute, (and one of my absolute favourites [as much as one can have a favourite MOS song because Gavin just keeps coming out with more awesome])!
Still think this is the best Assassin's Creed Song you did - Not that the others are bad, especially Ezio and Arno are amazing but this, man this is the real deal!
Since everyone's declaring their alliances to the characters... My thoughts: Altaïr: Arrogant and foolish in the beginning, the wisest of the Order ever after that. My fave after Ezio. Ezio: Grew up from a boy into a deadly, wise Master Assassin. All that killing and hardship, and still could love. Haytham: Asshole. Hate him. People just have some kind of a modern sickness of liking those who'd be bad for them; I've seen this happen mostly with anime fangirls. (Haytham would *enslave* you. Remember that.) Connor: True, naïve. But good intentions, and wisdom keeps growing. Also I *enormously* respect him for his quote: (Yet you fight. You persist. Why?) "*Because no one else will!*" Edward: Hate/despise/pity him until he starts regretting everything. Once he settles, he's good. Haven't played Liberation yet, nor read about Nicholai.
Haytham wasn't an asshole. He was wise, honest and respectable. He had good intentions at heart, and had an effective way of getting things done. He wasn't even the bad guy either. He was a great portrayal of how the Templars aren't the bad guys (unlike what the Ezio trilogy would have you believe), and how it's not so black and white between the Assassins ad the Templars.
Tekanova EVERYONE has good intentions at heart - no one thinks of themselves as the bad guy, do they - , but that doesn't make things right, does it? I don't unfortunately see any point in continuing a debate between us, for you ignore clear facts (enslavement, first and foremost). I wish wisdom upon you.
Tekanova I`m completely your opinion about Haytham, but I think in the Ezio-Triologie the worst enemy is Cesare Borgia, who is no Templar. He even killed Rodrigo, who was the leader of the Templars at this time.

people don't cut this guy enough slack. One of my miracle of sound favorites. right up there with Braking Down The Borders, Blood of the Creed, and Sovngarde Song.
I spoke to a couple of native American buddies but none from the Mohawk tribe in particular. However the chant is directly taken from a Mohawk chant named 'Rabbit Dance' which i did my best to replicate respectfully :)
miracleofsound I'm not Native at all, so my opinion doesn't mean anything on this subject. Around the time you released this song, I'd been watching some Native-produced movies*. So when I heard the chant in this song it kind of blew me away, because you sounded /exactly/ like the chants I'd heard in those movies. I think that if it were possible for a white person to respectfully reproduce one of those chants, that you pulled it off. Bravo. *Smoke Signals and Powwow Highway, and a documentary called Reel Injun about the history of Native folks in movies. The part where the Navajo actors are swearing at the American actors in old Westerns was awesome. I recommend all of these films if you can find them.
Daniel Hettinger I agree, and I like to think I've taken some time to educate myself, if only on an informal basis. I try to educate others when it seems appropriate, while maintaining awareness of the limits of my knowledge and of who I'm talking to.
Gavin thank you so much for continuing to make such amazing music! I'll admit that Blood of the Creed took some time to grow on me but once it did I loved it! And this is 10x better! I especially like that you put in my favorite verse from Blood of the Creed.
Smosh- How many fools can I kill today? too many to count. Don't get in my way. Shoot a mofo in the throat with my bow... MoS(Auditory gold) A father lost to hunger, the temptation of control. No sentiment you represent can tame my savage soul... (AC 4) Smosh- A pirate's life for me. Murderin' fools for free... MoS- Defy the odds against us . A pirate knows no fear. Our steel is ready and our retribution is severe ... There is an approximate 1/20,000 subscriber ratio. Although this meme is overused and a tiresome cliche, I don't want to live on this planet anymore. As a songwriter, I can assure that much less effort goes into writing songs like that than something with good lyrics. THe worst part is, Smosh hasn't been funny since 2008 Side Note: NOBODY GIVES A FLYING TOMAHAWK WHO YOUR FAVORITE ASSASSIN IS!!
I guess it's because Smosh is a comedy channel, not a serious gaming music channel. Even with that though, we can all agree Miracle of Sound is better and should have more subscribers.
Dude. Smosh is humor, Miracle of Sound is purely music. Of course Smosh is going to have silly lyrics. It's like comparing Saints Row to GTA and criticizing Saints Row for not being serious enough. It's a stupid argument.
I cannot recall a single expression of joy, nor any humility. At least Ezio had a character arc. There was a purpose behind everything he did. He was also very intelligent in the way he planned his assassinations. Connor just did things he didn't really want to because other people told him to. And he never did them very well. Ezio was an important person. Connor was just a tool for important people.
It doesn't sound cheesy, it sounds very much at home with the rest of it. Sounds amazing, its the part of the song where i lose my self again in the world, amazing song. Thanks!
B-But I would have known the full storyline before it even came out! Edward, we know nothing about except that he dies when Haytham is aged ten due to a Templar attack on their home.
Three was my favorite. But Ubisoft is straying from what assassin's creed is all about. It seems that you now play as random people who know parkour instead of an actual assassin like Ezio or Altair.
I also think like this. Conner was by far the most emotion filled of all the assassins we've seen. He had to deal with losing his mother, finding out his father was a traitor, and growing up in a world that didn't accept him, during a war.
As someone who is not that keen on music (I know minority of one) I find your talent aurally mesmerising. Another great song. Thanks Gav. I really hope you manage to hit the big time. You deserve to.
An amazing song for an average game. Great song, Gavin! The chorus of it is so enchanting and majestic and it actually focuses on the relationship between Connor and Haytham which in my opinion is the true story of this game.
Because to Ezio he became this perfect "Mentor" character. He was no longer a man who had done well, he was a perfect person who had completed these legendary feats, like a creature of myth.
So the link worked after all! You used it masterfully. This is your best song in a while. It achieves everything I hoped it would and more. Terrific job.
this sir , deserve my respect . i really love this and your other song , you truly deserve to be more known worldwide . From France with respect and admiration Antoine FRANCOIS
Congratulations, Internet stranger. I wish only the best for you and your beloved. Your courage will surely not go in vain, and hopefully it will soon bear fruit of the sweetest kind. Enjoy it and have peace knowing that you will never wonder what would have happened. Best of luck to you two. --an anonymous but friendly soul
Hey Gavin, glad that the problem with your hearing is gone. I really enjoy listening to all your songs and i was afraid that you would of had to stop making songs. Rock on man.
Never seen such a awesome song-creator. Taking respect to native american tribes, and singing about video-games. Making songs that should actually have been released in a album, well atleast in my opinion. You sir should have atleast 100.000.000 views, but sadly, you haven't. Keep it up Gavin!
"Musket guns and silver slivers, Justice runs in crimson rivers, words of ancient truth we follow, bleed these veins into tomorrow." I loved that line from Blood of the Creed. It sounds even more epic in this song.
No. I often re-use sections from songs about the same story to link them together. I did it in Take It Back and The Grind also. It's a little trick I picked up from Nine Inch Nails ;)
Speechless. You are amazing! Ugh, can't find the words to describe how I feel about it. It's just so... impressive and heart warming, and beautiful, and it's so great that you made it! Thank you so much!

+ElfInflicted Ummmm top UA-cam comment that dosen't involve a flame war? What has happened to this world XD
I'm from Germany and you make the best gamemusic, I've ever heard. Only the soundtracks of the game are as well as your music. Thank you
0:14 savage
Almost 9 years on, this is still a banger
Agreed
war,war never gaines
Truer words have never been said.
Gavin thank you so much for continuing to make such amazing music! I'll admit that Blood of the Creed took some time to grow on me but once it did I loved it! And this is 10x better! I especially like that you put in my favorite verse from Blood of the Creed.
Am I the only one who actually liked Connor?
So, there are two of us?
Three!
Three it is then.
No
Jonathan Landman I mean I liked Connor too
I love the Native American/High Seas sound. Never thought the two would be in a song together, and you definitely made them work well :)
"No sentiment you represent can tame my savage soul" I feel like this everyday, is that bad?
Dylan White Sure
I don't know why, but I just love that shot of Connor and Haytham kneeling on the bow of their ships at 0:49 and 1:01
you should make a loop of you doing the mohawk chant :D
So glad you're back to making music, Gav. Hope you're feeling better and not pushing yourself too hard.
Smosh- How many fools can I kill today? too many to count. Don't get in my way. Shoot a mofo in the throat with my bow...
MoS(Auditory gold) A father lost to hunger, the temptation of control. No sentiment you represent can tame my savage soul...
(AC 4)
Smosh- A pirate's life for me.
THe worst part is, Smosh hasn't been funny since 2008
Side Note: NOBODY GIVES A FLYING TOMAHAWK WHO YOUR FAVORITE ASSASSIN IS!!
+Jennifer Alt Smosh is cool
theirishman wwe Yeet they were cool in like 2007 lol.
+josh joshon SO I DONT CARE WHAT YOU THINK
Who thinks that Haytham is their favourite Assassin?
Haytham is the best. I love Haytham!! my second fave is Edward and then Connor!!
Hathin is a templar
Sam Marcantel I know, but I like to say "assassin"
CutieFoxCake k
But it goes upon the lore. haytham was an templar, and died a templar.
Jacob, Arno, Edward...
It doesn't sound cheesy, it sounds very much at home with the rest of it. Sounds amazing, its the part of the song where i lose my self again in the world, amazing song. Thanks!
why dont you have 1 mill?????
+Landon Luis
Sherlock here!
He isn't famous enough.
THEN WE MAKE HIM FAMOUS!
I didn't really like ACIII, but to me this is your best AC song, something about the chanting man just...wow...
HEIOOOOOOOOOOOH YOO AUEEEAAA HOAUEHAA HUEHEUHUEHUEHUE HU3HU3HU3 BRBR

nicholas hurtado Why?hahaha
LeoGuitarize Reasons . . . Because reasons.
nicholas hurtado The zoeira has been planted
Arrgh your not-'Murican laungages anger me!
Thanks!
I wish Haytham would have been the main character of AC III.
B-But I would have known the full storyline before it even came out! Edward, we know nothing about except that he dies when Haytham is aged ten due to a Templar attack on their home.
+Random9001 If you read the Book Forsaken you know much about Haythams life
haytham saved connor life ...
NO I want my own game
It means justice is served through rivers of blood - in otherwords the philosophy and method of the Assassins.
Nope assassins creed 3 was one of their worst in the series it had plenty of problems with it. Luckily they fixed many of these problems in Black flag
Three was my favorite. But Ubisoft is straying from what assassin's creed is all about. It seems that you now play as random people who know parkour instead of an actual assassin like Ezio or Altair.
kind of my point, however AC4 was amazing
Preston Whitlock If it was the worst, why was it the most sold games in the franchise?
One word: L-O-V-E !!!!! And especially that "Youre going to war"... My gosh, ive got chills atm man!
I also think like this. Conner was by far the most emotion filled of all the assassins we've seen. He had to deal with losing his mother, finding out his father was a traitor, and growing up in a world that didn't accept him, during a war.
As soon as I read the title I knew this was gonna be amazing. And it didn't disappoint.
As someone who is not that keen on music (I know minority of one) I find your talent aurally mesmerising. Another great song. Thanks Gav. I really hope you manage to hit the big time. You deserve to.
This is why we love you, Gavin.
Haytham deserves his own game
Sir, so long as you continue to create the rock, we shall rock to it.
It's a variation on a popular folk melody, used in many old songs :)
Guys, you'r just definition of awesomness.
As an american, this pleases my ears greatly. thank you.
I've listened to this about ten times now and it and it still hasn't gotten old!
Big fan of this one, really like the large amount of diversity in vocals and tone. Love it.
this sir , deserve my respect . i really love this and your other song , you truly deserve to be more known worldwide .
From France with respect and admiration

Congratulations, Internet stranger. I wish only the best for you and your beloved. Your courage will surely not go in vain, and hopefully it will soon bear fruit of the sweetest kind. Enjoy it and have peace knowing that you will never wonder what would have happened. Best of luck to you two.

Man, I can hardly think of a more appropriate for a band ever: Miracle of Sound, indeed!
Hey Gavin, glad that the problem with your hearing is gone. I really enjoy listening to all your songs and i was afraid that you would of had to stop making songs. Rock on man.
I like the reference to Blood of the Creed. When I heard "Musket guns and silver slivers" a smile slowly broke out on my face.
This song gives me chills. I love it. Please keep up the good work.
