I learned to sew by watching you years ago and I was so amazed when I made your wristlet. I paused, ran to the machine and did what you said. Thank you for years of joy.
I made 4 bowl cozies, and one of your Easter baskets without the handle to match. I put the cozies inside the basket and gave it as a house warming gift. It was a hit!
Excellent tutorial. I use a hemostat to turn it right side out. Reach in, grab the furthest corner and pull. Works really well. You are a gifted teacher!
My son and I just Ioved your free tutorial on Bowl Cozies. Ha has cerebral palsy and developmental disabilities and we found your tutorial was fun and easy to follow! He uses the cozies for chips, grapes, and ice cream, though luckily not together!😂. As always, thanks!
I have so much enjoyed watching your success and crafting journey since you began long ago. I was an experienced and somewhat skilled needle worker, but had stopped for a decade or so. You and some other internet inspirations guided me back. Thank you.
I’m self taught . I’ve taught myself off of watching UA-cam videos. Might I add that you are a wonderful teacher!! I’m in my 50’s and never touched a sewing machine until I needed a mask. Ive made a few beach bags, 3 big quilts and several other things. Thank you for sharing
Love the rounded corners…!! Yours was the very first one i ever made, total newbie to quilting. Your video was so easy to follow. Thank you for your videos.
I made 4 of these yesterday and they came out great. I used 10" fabric from a bundle of fabric all in 10 inch size. They were perfect for these. I love them. Vanessa, you are the bomb of teachers, I love to watch your videos, I love your style. You truly belong in front of the camera, just love ya. Later. RLH
I have made a lot of bowl cozies and sold them at the farmers market. I use all cotton products: thread, material, and batting. But I personally recommend to use them when you take the bowl out of the microwave just because if foods spill on it, that can catch fire when used in the microwave.
Hi Mary I ask how do you determine the price for your bowl cozies?? Also I ordered those Gypsy brand cutouts, and they’re so stiff, it’s hard to turn the inside out. Do u use real batting or those forms? thank s Linda
Hi, I have made many and given them away. Also I have sold them at craft shows. I love your teaching method, gracias. From Washington State and we are cool. In the 30's. God bless!
I’ve made several of your bowl cozies...with one cotton batting and one fire resistant fabric. Apparently, there is a special fabric to be safe in am microwave (cannot remember name of either one!). Love your tutorials!
Hi Vanessa, This is the first time I've watched one of your tutorials. Since you've inspired me, I think I'm going to try making a couple of these bowl cozies for Christmas presents. I'm 75 and usually I just make art quilts. Just wanted to let you know I think you are adorable! 😊
I have been looking for info on how big to measure the darts, I cant figure it out! I was asked to make a pint cozy and its making me nuts! Maybe our crafty girl can make one?
I made a few of these based on your old video. All cotton. I use Pelion wrap and zap batting. A couple I rounded the corners too I also found a round pattern from a lady via my Cricut. I used the Cricut to cut out the circle and it cut out the darts too. Then you just sew the darts cutouts together. (The cutout triangles on the 4 sides). I have a perfect round cozy then. Hope that makes sense the way I said that on the round one. I only use my cozies for no more than 2-3 minutes in microwave to heat up soup or whatever. I put my presto popcorn bowl in it after popping since it gets hot in microwave. (And I eat the popcorn out that bowl I don’t like dirtying up more dishes) But in that case I don’t use the popcorn bowl with the cozy in microwave... I don’t feel comfortable since it gets so hot with the hot oil in the bowl). I use it after to hold it. Thanks for great video. David
Your shawl is stunning!! Been looking for a 1 skein shawl pattern and now I've found it. Never done lacework before so this will get me started. Might even make a couple for myself and a couple more for gifts. Excited for the release date
I use wrap in zap batting. They recommend soaking both batting and fabric in hot water for 20 min, roll in towel to absorb water, line dry b/4 cutting and sewing cozy. It cuts on shrinkage when washing and they keep their shape after washing
I use this formula to fit ant bowl. Turn the bowl upside down. Measure from one side of the bowl to the other in the middle of the bowl BOTTOM ADD 1/2” to the measurement to make a square. That will be a 1/4” seam all the way around. I use the same formula as you do for the dart. Love making these along with the matching napkins and placemats. The Bowl cozies sure keep soups nice and warm while eating
Hey Vanessa ... Love your cozie pattern .. made them for gifts last year... and have more to make for this Christmas... shout out to Bea for the bigger PIP 🤓
I'm only 2 years late to this party! I love the circular picture in picture! Everyone in my family is asking for these. My Singer had a bit of trouble going through everything but finally got it done. My TL18 is on layaway and will be mine in 2 more payments, with a bonus Gidget II table & insert. Super excited and ready to conquer more projects! Thanks for all of your videos, you gave me the confidence to do more than I thought I could!
I made one from the last time you made one Vanessa, I used 100 percent cotton everything, and it’s been great in the microwave. One dishwasher = more sewing time, ha ha! I much prefer the raised neck on your raglan tee!
I bought my first juki F600 after watching your review. I love it. Only problem is the foot controller is not working when I press on it. I’m a beginner sewer so not sure if it’s me. Looking forward to go to town on my machine. I’m interested in quilting. Your Awesome!! Thank you so much for all your video’s.💖
I have made bowl cozies for years. I always told people "Not to use in the microwave". My point was that if the cozies had some grease on it, could catch fire. I always do all cotton by the way. Recently I did see a caution note on another recent site that said, "not for the microwave". I'll bet it's because people had some issues. Something to think about.
I've made bowl cozies for my kids across the country (in LA; I live in NY) - they use them in the microwave all the time. I use Quilter's Dream Cotton batting, cotton fabric, cotton thread. All works like a dream. Same thing for the vegetable cookers (primarily potatoes) - all work beautifully in the microwave.
Hi Vanessa, I have made your bowl cozy, cord keeper, etc! Would you ever do a teddy bear tutorial? I have seen a lot of them but I only seem to be able to follow your instructions the best because you give such good, easy to follow directions. I'm 74 and learned to sew following your videos and tutorials. I can't imagine you having the time as busy as you are with the million things you create for everyone but I thought it never hurts to ask, right? Thanks for all you do for all of us 💛❤️💚💙
Vanessa, you are truly the best! I think I say that too often, maybe, but every time I see a video tutorial, I am motivated and excited to get behind my machine!! And I just bought that new Yuke, or is it Yuki? Thank you Vanessa!!
I’m making placemats table runners napkins keyboard covers pillows and bags. I’m very busy. Xmas is around the corner. Love seeing you as you are talking.
I made some bowl cosies as Christmas presents last year and everyone loved them. I want to make some bespoke sized ones for myself but haven't gotten around to it yet.
Mom still has the Singer Gold Touch & Sew that she got new probably in the late 60s or early 70s. I learned on her original Singer straight stitch machine before I got to graduate to the Touch & Sew. The Touch & Sew actually intimidated me a little because it sewed very fast. We both have Vikings now, but I’m contemplating digging out the Singer.
Cotton is flammable. It, too, will catch fire. Because one fiber burns, doesn't mean that another won't. However, cotton will not melt, and if it catches fire, the fumes don't have the same toxicity as burning poly. A point about bowl cozies that is sometimes overlooked, they need to be very clean. Any residue (especially sugars or oils) can get very hot and are potentially more dangerous than a clean and dry cozy. ...or so I've read.
I made a burrito pillowcase with my 3 1/2 year-old granddaughter. I did the cutting and taught her to sew straight on practice fabric. She sewed up the project as I did harder areas. We have also made cute skirts and I want to teach her to do your square fabric box. My Mother aways sewed and gave me my first toy machine at 11 by 13, I was making clothes for myself on her machine.
Yes I love the picture in a picture. Cause I like to see the person talking to me. And we don't have to watch just the talking hands lol. Just kidding, great idea
Thank you for sharing. I made one bowl Cosy broke a needle on my mom’s new Janome. Lost the tip of the needle had to take her machine apart. Even shook it upside down. Could not find needle tip. Put machine back together. Had mom make sure machine😊 works ok. I have about fifty cut out! So doing some research on what can I maybe do different to have better luck getting these cosys done and given as gifts.
Instead of using something to draw the lines to sew the X, I simply fold the fabric and batting from point to point and with my iron make a press line to follow. You can easily make enough of a line in order to follow by just not pressing over the first one at the center.
It would be safer for me to use a ruler; if I make a template for the dart, I might look at it later and ask myself - What was this for? It's too small for me to write any information on it. LOL!
Hello, i love the cozy bowl pattern you have. I've made a couple. However I'm wondering if you can make a cozy for a plate? I some deep plates that we use for dinner plates and cozies would be nice to have to hold them instead of a kitchen towel. Can you help me out? Thank you! Love your videos too❤

Love the two pictures so we can see you as you do things!!

I LOVE ALL you tutorials! Plan to make these soon!
Currently working on draw string pouches.
Hi Mary I ask how do you determine the price for your bowl cozies?? Also I ordered those Gypsy brand cutouts, and they’re so stiff, it’s hard to turn the inside out. Do u use real batting or those forms? thank s
Linda
I have never had a problem. Family uses them in the microwave all the time. Maybe because it is a cotton blend.
U r such a good teacher. Love ur lasses
Hi, I have made many and given them away. Also I have sold them at craft shows. I love your teaching method, gracias. From Washington State and we are cool. In the 30's. God bless!
Love it. I love your bubbly talk. I am looking forward making them.

I used Wrap n Zap microwave safe batting.
This is a great idea cause it’s lovely seeing your beautiful face while you demonstrate your projects. I love the idea.

I altered the pattern to fit a pint of ice cream for my niece. She loves it! Thank you for your teaching

Love the Picture in Picture. These cozies are great!
I turned on this video after I sat down with soup in my bowl cozy from your tutorial. LOL

Cindy from Edmonton Alberta, Canada. Love your tutorial on bowl cozies
I recently discovered the compensating foot, and that makes topstitching so much nicer!!
I like the picture inset, thank you for the info on quilt batting
I've made several. I love to use them as a pretty presentation for a dip.
Next Project is snap bags for Christmas gifts!! Thank you for the tutorial.
I've made over a dozen of your bowl cozies! tyvm!
Glad you like them!

I love the Picture in Picture!!!
I watched your 9 inch bowl cozy’s, I went to Hobby Lobby and bought $25 worth of material to make cozy’s for my family
I made one from the last time you made one Vanessa, I used 100 percent cotton everything, and it’s been great in the microwave. One dishwasher = more sewing time, ha ha! I much prefer the raised neck on your raglan tee!
I made several! Love them. Thank you 😊

Hello from Delray Beach, FL!!
I luv the bowl cozy tutorial!

I just made some based on your old video. Used 11 inch square
Vanessa, you are truly the best! I think I say that too often, maybe, but every time I see a video tutorial, I am motivated and excited to get behind my machine!! And I just bought that new Yuke, or is it Yuki? Thank you Vanessa!!

Hi from South Africa
Appreciate your tutorials...very informative and fun!
Yes I watched the tutorial and I've been able to give them as gifts.
I always recommend 100% cotton. One of our church ladies did have a non-100% cotton cozy catch fire in the microwave. No joke! 🙂
Recommend to not use it for more than a couple of minutes at a time and never leave it completely unattended.
Heat at 2 min intervals, check food if need more cooking time, another 2 min, check etc
I made several with a pkg of 10” (layer cake) squares. Great, as they’re all precut…
I made a burrito pillowcase with my 3 1/2 year-old granddaughter. I did the cutting and taught her to sew straight on practice fabric. She sewed up the project as I did harder areas. warm and natural batting works great and you can buy it in twin, queen, full, etc, size sheets pretty cheap at Walmart.
Yes I love the picture in a picture. Cause I like to see the person talking to me. And we don't have to watch just the talking hands lol. Just kidding, great idea
Tuning in from Barrie Ontario, CANADA!
WHEN I FRIST STARED SEE THE VIDEOS I MADE YOUR BOWLS TO USE AS MY CLIPS, ANDYOUR ZIPPER POUCH
I love your videos... You explain everything. Where did you buy your little ironing board? I need one like that. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing. I made one bowl Cosy broke a needle on my mom’s new Janome. Lost the tip of the needle had to take her machine apart. Even shook it upside down. Could not find needle tip. I love the small video 👍😊
Yes and make sure you trim all threads too, they can catch fire or scorch
Even with all cotton fabric etc., you can burn the cotton if you heat on high in microwave for more than a minute or two.
Love the shawl! Can’t wait for the pattern!
I have repurposed old blue jeans to make bowl cozies.

I love your channel. From Chicago
Do you have a link to the batting you used. Thinking Christmas ideas!

Hi Venessa hi Bea!! From snowy Buffalo,We use the bowl cozies for ice cream. 🍦🍨

Backed potato pouch’s for Christmas gifts
I love this technology as well
I love everything you do! Felicidades
Watching from Australia
Have you published the pattern for the knitted shawl from the first part of the video? It’s lovely!

I am sewing a bowl cosy love your video
Love this video..going to make friday..

I think these would also be great to do in holiday fabrics to place around a bowl of holiday candy. Dresses the bowl up!
I didn’t realize you were in FL as well!
Use to put dry snacks( popcorn, fishes, potato chips) without a bowl for toddlers instead of paper bowls. They do not break & eco friendly

Yes like the inset photo of you.
My hubby bought this sewing Machine for me a few months ago

I made bowl cozy my college age daughter liked it
I don't use my bowl cozy in the microwave, regardless of what it is made of. I heat my food, then put it in the cozy.
Me too. Just in case.
Hello first time viewing
Hello, i love the cozy bowl pattern you have. I've made a couple. However I'm wondering if you can make a cozy for a plate? I some deep plates that we use for dinner plates and cozies would be nice to have to hold them instead of a kitchen towel. Can you help me out?
Thank you! Love your videos too❤
