- It's the return of The Idiot. I watch a bunch of modern wrestling without much idea what's going on and I try to enjoy it. I have heard much about how WWE has improved since Vince Mcmahon left and I needed to find out if this was true. So I watched RAW for the first time for a year. I also watched TNA and MLW. It didn't go as well!

I am a big Impact and TNA fan (and NWA) so I totally would love to see Nick Aldis show back up in Impact. It would be a great grab for them!

He enjoyed Raw because of the bloodline. He said the first 50 mins of the show. That was all bloodline. Vince started that. He built the bloodline when everyone wanted Roman buried. So yeah I think he will be fine
Sure he started it, but then it was getting stale until the adding of Sami Zayn and Solo "dont look at his ass" Sakoa.
If Vince was still in charge we wouldn't hv those great Sami moments, Sami wouldn't even last tht long in the bloodline, and Solo would still be in NXT.
Vince can start something good but then he cannot keep the ball rolling.

Both WWE and AEW have generally been solid over the past few months. Some highs and lows but overall decent wrestling to end 2022. Hope 2023 continues the trend. One major change I want to see from WWE is replacing all the title belts. I hate the cheap ass looking belts in WWE.
AEW has not been solid at all, AEW has been the most boring piece of garbage for months at this point.

After watching Johnathan Gresham on ROH for about a couple of years I believe the reason he's called the octopus is because he is a grappler and one of his most used holds is the octopus stretch.
They call him The Octopus cuz he's so good at grappling it seems like he has eight arms!!!

Totally with you on the research thing, no a new viewer to wrestling likely wouldn't research before watching a show, plus it adds to the fun of the series for me

Keep up the kick ass work! Love you covering early(or anytime) TNA. I have a friend that past years ago. When I was younger we would all go to his place on Wednesday’s and watch the weekly TNA show. He LOVED Double J and Vince Russo. Thanks for bringing back good memories.

Glad to know I share the same opinion about week 1 of RAW. I came back to it out of conquering my fear of staying for 3 hours to watch the whole thing, and I actually enjoyed it. I'll probably give it another watch for this week unless Vinny Mac somehow finds a way to screw it all up in his return. At least there 2k23 to look forward to.

I actually watched a few years ago and saw Elias and thought he was pretty good and had a good gimmick but to my knowledge he didnt get much of a push. The biggest difference I noticed about wrestling today compared to 20-30 years ago is the crowd seems absolutely dead now compared to then, other than when they are doing some stupid unison cheer.

Bully Ray is in the best shape of his life and his heel promos are on pointe, but it all falls apart when he gets in the ring, and we're reminded how old and slow he is.

I tried watching one episode of WWE once during 2022 and Sami calling one of the Usos "Uce" made me switch off immediately.

The difference was Florida, California, and Mid-South didn't all have their own individual world champion. NJPW, AEW, WWE, Impact, the NWA, etc all do. It's the same reason Jim Cornette led an NWA faction in WWF in the 90s that was led by the NWA US champ, not the world champ. Wrestling promotions cannot acknowledge the existence of world championships outside of their own without undermining the credibility of everything they do
I don't know why that can't happen. Josh Alexander isn't on some shitlist like Rich Swann was, which absolutely nuked the feud with Omega and has relegated Swann to the mid card upon his return from injury.
But I can't trust AEW to treat Impact with respect.
The idea is interesting on paper, but they would basically tell the fans that there are no credible opponents in their own promotion, so their champion needs to travel elsewhere in order to have a competetive match. Also this would mean that the other promotion would need to agree on having him burry their stars on their TV shows. MLW and NWA might be OK with that in order to get a champion from a bigger promotion on thier show, but I really don't think AEW or NJPW would do is as the negatives outweight the positives for them.
See you have to think about it. Impact struggles to draw 100k. If he showed up on AEW TV like 90% of the audience wouldn’t recognize him. What does AEW gain out of that? No one is tuning in because he showed up. No one is watching impact because he showed up on AEW either. So maybe impact just needs to find some stars

This comment section is very negative. I will be positive and say that all the promotions are different flavors. You can say you hate "modern wrestling" but if you look honestly one of these shows will have something you like and wanna see more of.

MarkyD, I agree Impact's main event needs work, but the problem is Tony Khlown signs every ex-WWE employee down to the janitor to over inflated contracts. Impact did make mistakes by allowing; Bandido, W. Morrissey and Briscoe Brothers go when they had them to AEW when they could had sign them for dirt cheap.
That good WWE episode was a fluke. Now that Vince McMahon is back expect HHH being in charge get screwed again. Last week's SD! proved that WWE is going to get worse with Charlotte Flair returning and winning the another title. Pure McMahon crap booking.
Yea not signing bandido and morrisey was a big mistake bandido hasn’t been on aew tv in weeks and morrisey is a joke now with the main event scene fyi John Morrison has teased coming back to impact and they might also bring in nick aldis so that could help
Aew has other 200 wrestlers majority of new signings get buried and never seen on TV after a month or two

Yes it did improve. It still gets bad at certain times of the show but people underestimate how horrible and boring WWE was in many years of the 2010s. Bloodline storyline is worth checking, guys like Gunther look great in the ring. They still have too many comedy acts though, but I don't think that's ever changing. Their problem is 3 hours of Monday night Raw. It is way too much, they don't have enough material to make you sit through all of that. Their PPV's however have been great lately!
Poor Shelton Benjamin. Man deserves so much more.
I've started watching Smackdown after Triple H took over creative and I really enjoy it. I can't be bothered to watch Raw because three hours is asking too much.

The first 30 seconds of this video straight up outlines one of AEW's biggest issues since they started. Even their "all I do all day is watch every indie show I can find" core audience doesn't know who half of these people are when they debut, yet everyone is expected to.
When a new person shows up on AEW, the presentation has *always* came across like, "What? You're saying you *DON'T* know who this wrestler is?! This guy who's only worked in a specific regional promotion and has never been mentioned in any wrestling publication ever?! Are you even a fan?! You should be *ashamed* of yourself!!!"
Okay... It may not be that bad, but they've always went the exact, polar opposite of WWE (when Vince ran creative); over-explain everything and keep it needlessly simple, because they think all wrestling fans are braindead. I watch AEW and WWE, but they both have their weird issues. WWE not so much now, with Vince out (lets hope he can keep himself out of creative and his ego can accept that people actually LIKE the creative direction with HHH in charge).
All the AEW smarks DO know every random Japanese guy/new debut in my experience. I agree its very annoying still, but maybe the message is that it's not for me.

The bloodline is VERY interesting. They’re about the best thing in 2023 wrestling. They give it fun feel. The best promos. Best matches. They just feel important
The WWE shows are a little more bearable than they have been in the past but generally i think RAW will never be a consistently good show as long as it lasts 3 hours because there's just not enough talent to fill all that time and keep people engaged

Don't watch Impact, but might if Joe Hendry is looking to be their only possible main eventer. To see him do a Prestige esk faction would be great even if they'd all have to be other wrestlers due to contracts and allegations.
I watched WCPW/Defiant for a long time, which meant I saw Hendry a lot. He was a good main eventer there and I think he has what it takes to be a good main eventer anywhere.
