Looks to be in good shape for being on the chopping block for scrapping! I don't understand the Jones act very well, how is that ship Chinese built but U.S. flaged? I thought us flaged ships had to be built here? At least that's what I hear about all the great lakes freighters which is why they are most are from the 70s and older
A ship doesn’t have to be American built to have a U.S. crew and an American flag. But the jones act requires ships loading and discharging the same cargo in between US ports to be American built and flagged. Hence why the lakers are American built wouldn’t be very useful to have to take the cargo foreign. The jones act isn’t for the sailors as much as it is for the steel mills and shipyards
