This was over the top review. Everything from start to finish was so well thought and executed. Thank you and your team for the effort in making this extraordinary video!
I'm not normally a fan of Euros, but this is definitely an exception- mostly because I love dice manipulation games. I don't know what it is about them, but the strategy involved just seems to really click with me.
The one thing I wanted to hear was the co OP was it good or bad and you said do not care. Well that made me a little sad but other then that thanks for the review :D!
Love the shield and trade routes, the main board is perhaps better, but player boards are horrible. In old version the numbers were more subtle and area colors more clear. In this one, the numbers just pop out with you barely noticing the color undernath. Similarly the tiles for buildings are completely ruined. I can barely decifer what's on the tile, not to mention the yellow tiles.
I was not impressed with the pictures I saw of the new version but on video I have to say it does look like an improvement. I especially like that the board is larger. I would love those expansions, but I'm probably just going to have to stick with my original version.
I can't decide. I feel like the new boards are too busy but at the same time, things seem to be laid out more logically. I think I will get this version to see it in person, try it and then decide which one I want to keep.
Addition: The visibility is indeed a bit better in the old version, but the layout of the new boards are actually great in this one. I just wish the city in the background was faded. One thing I love though, is that the look of the each building gives you a hint about its ability. The expansions are also good and easy to add (except shields maybe).
Doesn’t selling a dice for workers get you 2 workers? Unless they changed that in new version. Also did they change the 1 and 4 spot for two players to put 3 tiles instead of 2 each?
Oh neeeat fantastic review! I've been choosing a fame to buy for a while now and saw Castles of Burgundy everywhere but never the new edition, the improvements they made are gorgeous, definitely buying this game!
I bought the newer version yesterday with so much excitement, but I'm somehow disappointed with the art. I wished I'd seen this video before. Maybe I need to adapt but the old version was enough for me. I like the cover even more. Well... hope they make justice with a 3rd version.
Looking forward to playing this game. I just bought it online literally yesterday. I did however intentionally purchase the old version. It's not a theme driven game, and the new board for my taste would be to distracting. I much prefer the original toned down colour palette.
I had so many people online suggest this game to me but the old box art and all the pictures looked so drab. I knew it had to be good but if the look turned me off, I knew I would have a tough time getting friends and family to play. Then I saw that this new version was going to be released in three months at the time so I waited! Glad I did. This has been a huge hit
It must be a testament to the game itself that it has thrived, despite not one but two (!) off-putting game boards. To me it's kind of remarkable that they couldn't come up with a far more attractive version of one of the best-received games in recent decades. Will the Awaken Realms edition finally be the charm, or one more major disappointment?
I like thw old version better and more compact and intuitive. biggest change from the original version is that u only have 3 hex tiles next to six dice locations in the main city. so how does it change the game for4 players??
I bought this game, but sadly I had to return it due to severe miss alignments in the printing process. Even worse Ravenburger/Alea had the WORST replacement service of any game publisher I have ever had to deal with. It literary took me months with numerous emails to get it sorted. I'd still like to own a copy, but I seriously dare not buy another one. At least until I know for a fact that they got there quality sorted.
@@TheGameBoyGeeks Someone on BGG explained it was something about the printing process which would naturally get more and more misaligned during a print run. So it had to be manually reset ever so often, but apparently it wasn't reset often enough. I'm not too sure about the details. My copy wasn't misaligned to the point of unplayable, but absolutely looked awful.
5:57 shows some awful misalignment. In that case it's on the backside of the tile, but it really gives a bad impression, especially considering this is labeled as an anniversary edition.
@@blackjack2150 You're absolutely right. But I would have accepted a misalignment like that on the back side. Sadly, my copy was even worse on both the back and front :(
Comparison between original and anniversary edition pieces happens at 9:40
The bonus tile is not for completing a region but for completing ALL spaces of a color. If you fill in ALL mines, you take the mine bonus.
Vibrant does not always = better. I much prefer the original art/presentation, but YMMV of course.
They both look a little bit like shit, but the presentation and iconography was way better in the original.
The old is drab, but readable. The new one is ENTIRELY too busy. It looks like Fruity Pebbles vomited about haphazardly. Old version all the way.
same thoughts. old one has better colors
Yep, agree
You get to take two workers. The action is even called "take two worker chips". 4:47

Thanks so much I’m glad you liked it!
Player boards: The new ones are prettier but less informative.
Main board: The new one is extremely busy. The old one is much better.
I prefer the old version

@@TheGameBoyGeeks Thank you, I'll make sure to give them a look!

I always said I'd buy it, if they made it look nice. I don't love it, but it IS an improvement.
Then get it! :)
Me too. Just bought Everdell though. So I’ll wait a bit

I think it looks better in person than on camera, but let me know what you think.
@@TheGameBoyGeeks I will in about a month or two (depending on when my pre-order will be fulfilled). :)

@@Cons2911 I did and I do. The art on the board is indeed a bit too much, but I think it's just an overall nicer version.

Yes using a die gets you 2 workers.
At the 1 and 4 spots you put 2 tiles in the two player game, and 3 tiles in the three player game.
Excellent and detailed review! Have u found a dice game that beats this yet?
I like both Pulsar 2849 and Grand Austria Hotel better.

Great to hear it! Enjoy the new version!
This is a masterpiece of a game. I have the old version but might get this anniversatry one, if the box is not to big...
The box is pretty normal size
Thank you! I like de newer version also, now I want to get this game!
I have both versions and the new art is so much better. I know people seem to prefer the "drab euro look" for some reason.

It is a double sided board, 4 player setup on the other side

Very useful
I’m glad it was!
It's very ugly, noisy, chaotic.... sorry. I wish there would exist a much nicer.. cleaner playboard for self printing.
This looks terrible and the original was worse...
