Thanks Steve! I'm glad you enjoyed the "orca" halibut footage haha! I was pretty excited as well! Thanks again for watching and here's to many tight lines in 2025! Captain Zac
Hi Peeling Line thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! Yes indeed - we were into a flurry of chicken halibut this day and that piebald halibut was something special for sure! All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi YourNextCast many thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! I appreciate the kind words! All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Haha hi John thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut footage! Yes indeed - that little 1oz chicken slayer can really keep the rod bent during a hot bite! Calm seas and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Wow, I think you anchored above a halibut farm! So many fish, even one that kinda looked like a cow at the end. Lol. Awesome day you had. Tight lines! The Piscatorian
Hi Piscatorian many thanks for tuning in and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut excursion! Yes indeed - this was certainly a chicken halibut farm! No real big ones but still a blast when the rod is bending every time you drop it to the bottom! All the and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Nice my dude! I caught a 4 ft Halibut when I went to Juneau and it was an awesome experience. So was hand feeding fish to the swarm of bald eagles we encountered. It’s like no other place I’ve ever been.
Hi Un sane thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut footage! Wow - CONGRATS on the nice hali during your visit to Juneau! Sounds like you had some great fishing and cool wildlife encounters! All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Great vid again Zac,, Mary can sure attract those fish she's a keeper! Strange pinball, I've seen that once in a trout long time ago and I must say it put me off eating him. Tight lines skipper.
Hi Nigel many thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this unique halibut catch! I couldn't agree more that Mary is a keeper! haha Cool to hear you previously caught a trout like this! Since I gaffed this fish (not realizing how rare it actually was), I was essentially obligated to keep and eat it. The meat tasted fine but it was sort of weird to fillet such a rare fish back at the dock. Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi NRALifer1 thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this unique halibut video! Yes indeed - a Piebald halibut is extremely rare. I'm a big whitetail hunter myself (down in PA every fall) and I've actually never seen a Piebald deer in the woods - only at a deer farm. That's awesome you've taken 3 of them on your property - CONGRATS! It must be so cool to be up in the stand (or a ground setup) and see a piebald deer come by. All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
@@CaptainZac Penn has some Monster WT! It's definitely a What is That moment when you see one! It's really not a good thing though, they should be taken out of the heard. They normally have something wrong with them. I have 400 acres I've worked on for 20 years. I'm fortunate to be in a QDM County. If you're ever down south during the Fall, I can put you on-em! Chance of a Hog too (Took 2 hogs last week). Our season just closed (Sept- mid Jan), time for Ducks now!
Hi Midnight Sun thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! Yes indeed - this was a very unique Hali! Had I not gaffed it, I may have actually just released it. It ate just fine though! Yes I'm actually a die-hard archery hunter - I visit my old stomping grounds back in PA every year to chase whitetails! How about you? Are you into deer hunting locally? Tight lines (and straight shots) my friend! Captain Zac
Hi JoshinValdezAk thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this unique halibut catch! Yes indeed I believe you are right - this was probably a rare genetic dynamic that altered this fish's color pattern. I've never seen anything like this before while halibut fishing! All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Wow! Just found your channel and fished through a few of your videos [see what I did there? :) ] You, Mary, and this channel are treasures. So wholesome and refreshing. I wish you both much success..
Hi Bluto many thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you found my channel! Haha I'm glad you fished through a few of videos because there will be plenty more where that came from over time! Thanks again for tuning in and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Curt thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! Yes indeed I was wondering this myself - whether it was genetic or due to an injury. Whichever it was, we were all very surprised when we pulled this fish aboard. Pretty rare for sure! All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
That Piebald Halibut was interesting to see. It is probably caused by a Pigmentation issue like in humans. It is just so strange that part was white and the other half was normal color. The nights you go fishing you must sleep like a baby, with all the energy you use, fighting with the fish. What would you say is the largest fish weight wise, that you ever caught?
Hi Ben thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this unique halibut footage! Yes indeed - this was certainly a rare fish. I've never seen a halibut like this before! Haha yes you are correct we have no problem falling asleep at night after being on the water all day! Largest halibut was probably the one Mary caught, which weighed 197lbs... a big barn door! An unforgettable fight! All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
I know it seems impossible. But I've caught 2 or 3 piebald halibut. All in the same spot and in the fall. Just an observation but it seems like a trend. That was an exceptional one though for sure.
Hi FTATF thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this footage! WOW that's crazy you've caught multiple piebald halibut - congrats on the rare catch! I wonder if fish that frequent that specific spot have a specific gene trait that increases the odds of catching a piebald considerably. All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
@@CaptainZac I don't know its odd that it's that spot and all of them have been in the fall. I fish that spot throughout the season but more so in the fall so that may be partially it. It doesn't make sense that it woukd be a seasonal thing, but it could be genetics.
Hi FishinHank many thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this unique halibut catch! Haha you are right this is a crazy looking fish and it can play mind game with you the longer you stare at it! All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Ed thanks for tuning in and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! Agree this is a great eating size. Fillets are super firm and still have decent thickness to them. All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
What a cool looking halibut! The orca halibut! Very cool! Lots of great action! Thanks fo sharing!

Now you need a left handed halibut! If you look at the eyes with the tail facing you the belly will be on the left instead of the right
