As a kid I used to look down on tai Chi....Now I relize I was wrong thanks for the vid.I will never ever look down on any thing I dont understand.sometimes my ignorance gets the best of me. all I want now is humility and wisdom, tai chi is so beautiful. Thanks for the Inspiration
This form contains a mix of Yang and Wu styles. In the olden days, the monks usually do not carry fans but staffs and were very proficient with them. The fan was usually carried around by the gentry and were used both for practical purposes as well as defence. The fan prongs were metal sharpened tips and were very deadly in thrusting (when closed) and slicing (when opened).
❤❤❤❤❤ the harmony, the melodious sound echoes in the sky.. the performance with perfection of movement never gets old. Never a day I do not play this clip..⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The music and the movement have touched me. An art which touches the soul. It calms me down but at the same time I have develop mixed feelings. A feeling of sadness and strenght and more i cannt explain it but beautifull
Hi! I'm currently contemplating whether to learn Chen Tai Chi, the Kwan dao, pole, spear and FAN!!! looks very interesting, especially since the fan is a practical weapon you can bring everywhere. Too bad you live so far though, I would love to learn Tai Chi from you, as well as Chinese medicine!!!
This is a great video. And you are moving so ELEGANT with a fan. We are just beginning to integrate the fan into our trainings. I myself love the bang when the fan opens. Thank you for this video it is a good relation to how to move with the fan for our students.
Hello, this video really filled me with emotions, I feel your movements like perfect poetry. Body poetry. My eyes are a bit wet after watching this, and I can't tell why. I have no words to describe what I feel but I surely want to start with this practice. I was postponing it for enough months already! Thank you infinitely. Also, the music and the place are excellent sellections, congratullations! And thanks from the deepest of my heart! Do you recommend me Simplified 24-form Taichi too? 再见!
Hi, I am learning this form, and it's very helpful to find a video online! I had remembered the stances but couldn't remember the order. Wonder what the name of this form is. Anyway, very appreciative of your video upload, the form looks pretty and it is helpful to have as a study reference.
wow that was really good i use the fan 2 but im not as good as that (manly because i go much faster and add in power...) and the setting was perfect for that!!! keep up the good work! :)
George & Dysjenco. The music title is SHANGHAI BRIDGE. I think it is from an old video series about 2 gangs in Hong Kong/China similar to Westside story.
Interesting form - big mix from yang jian and some chen taiji and a little bit of bagua too. Contemporary forms are such a bewildering mix of everything, but nice to watch neverless. Original ancient warlords iron fan of course would be anachronism and not so exotically nice to play, but more practical in fighting ;-)
Hi Dr. Pauline I've been doing tai chi for 7 years and I have been dying to learn the fan form! What form Is this and would you recommend it with my experience?
Uh, no this isn't Chen, though there might be a little mixed in there. Her qua isn't open for a lot of the moves. Also see a Wudang sword form...I think there are a lot of stiles here.
Hi! I am currently studying about traditional chinese weapons and wish to ask a question here, please. Were "Kung Fu Fans" actually serious and deadly weapons? In which cases a monk would decide to fight with a fan?
mhybrid7 As I understand it, some fans were made as a weapon. The spokes are made of steel and the tips are sharp, thus the stabbing and the slicing moves in the form itself.
zenseek i have difficulties to understand how one can transfer force through the fan into the target. the grip on the fan does not look like one could transfer much force through. I really have difficulties to understand and to imagine how one would seriously use a fan as a "weapon". what i could imagine would be a fan with poison-containing or something similar with this mindset. somehow a hidden assassin-like weapon, but it cannot compete with a knife or something. please help me to understand the purpose of the fan as a "weapon". Thank you!
mhybrid7 Like much of taiji, forms are practiced slowly to cement proper movement and to build internal energy. Trust me on this, using a fan with speed and kung fu skills can inflict serious damage.
This is NOT taichi! Taichi movements are rooted from the feet and controlled by the waited and harmonized by "chi" inhales and exthales. The movements are inside. This is pretty but not taichi!
david lee There are many forms of Tai Chi. A fan form is only one of them. Sabre & Sword forms also exist. Your understanding of tai-chi is only a fraction of what exist. Pls. do your homework.
+zenseek david lee hasn't made a fool of himself, he is actually quite correct. this routine was devised by Professor Li Deyin and, whilst there are postures included from many Taijiquan styles including, Chen, Wu, Yang and Sun there are also martial movements from other styles of Kung Fu as well as transitions and connecting movements from opera.
Whether this is or is not taichi can be set aside. This is beautiful movement matched with delightful music. Many taichi masters in recent years have commercialized taichi by mixing it up with some gymnastic, acrobatic or martial-art interludes to lure students. But taichi has core principle among which the chi, long and slow and drawn from dantien, must guide each movement. Movement must be done slowly and take into consideration the body's center of gravity. When we consider these basic conditions, this is not taichi.
One essential aspect in taichi must not be ignored. Taichi seeks line through curves. The straight line is an idea carried out through soft curves. Anybody who shows you a straight fist is not doing taichi. This is a pretty philosophical exercise.

mhybrid7 As I understand it, some fans were made as a weapon. The spokes are made of steel and the tips are sharp, thus the stabbing and the slicing moves in the form itself.
mhybrid7 Even a bamboo ribbed fan is a wooden stick and can be very destructive in the hands of someone with strong Kung Fu.

I've seen other videos where the end of the fan held in the hand is actually the part struck with, or the strike comes from the side of a closed fan
beutiful!
COOL
Also, what form are you using for the this Tai Chi Fan?
@SoccerBoy1903 there are no chisao in taichi. the chisao exercises are exclusive only to wingchun. taichi only has chi gung.
