Really great cover and really good to see a REAL cover for a change rather than someone playing along with the song with a guitar or bass and calling it a “cover”. Only thing I would say is you need a bit more aggression in your voice for the chorus but you do have a great singing voice.

Maybe I'm super slow on the uptake...but the audio is in the original key... you play the piano in the original key... Yet, you have a capo on the 2nd fret? :D Is it tuned down two semitones? Does it give a special sound? Help me pls :D

Haha no it’s nothing special. My Manson is just tuned to drop B for my original music. So to save me a restring and a setup I just use a capo.

2 questions: 1. What is your siund card ? Especially to capture the mic. I usually have issues as mine seems to not having pre amp good enough for dynamic mic.
Secondly: how did you get this good drum sound ? It has been recorded alone ? Or is it really recirded live as in the video?

My USB interface is just a Scarlett 18i20. It does give you a pretty raw recording so I have to do quite a bit in post and I’ll use the individual video recordings audio we take so there’s no bleed from the kit.
I use the drum takes from the individual video recording as well and then beat replace it with samples as my studio sounds garbage for acoustic drums. You just get a more controllable set of stems to work with that way and as I was practicing mixing as close to a proper session at the time of doing most of these it made sense to break them down this way.

It’s a while since we did it but from memory I just rolled the gain really low on my standard Diezel profile and proper hammered the down strokes. I think the 12s I play on helped it sound tight as well but it was brutal to play on those to be honest 😂 Sore index finger the following day.

Thank you buddy! There’s a list in the description of the majority of my gear. I also use a Focusrite 18i20 audio interface, an Aston Spirit mic and an SE V7 mic. Sometimes a Sure SM57 as well.

@@AlexSpyMusicthat’s why :) thankfully I just bought a plug in (baby) - Neural DSP Achytype Petrucci to handle that. But you did an amazing job. Listening to this in 2001 made me get serious about my guitar playing: I bought a modded Telecaster just for playing muse :)

Ah nice, that’s handy! Thanks man. How is that Neural DSP stuff? I’m a big Tim Henson fan and love the tones he’s got on there. Plus I use a Kemper and a few people have mentioned the Quad Cortex as a simplified option to my guitar/bass setup. My rig is a bit of a monster.

and the bass?
The bass is played through my guitar using a loop pedal and a Whammy V on -1. Like an opposite Royal Blood/Ed Sheeran. So for the main verse riff I loop it from the first verse under the piano. The bass follows the guitar mostly for the riffs but I have to shift the loop using the Whammy in places to make it work. It was a bit of a nightmare to figure out.
